Thanks Icebox64!!
I’ll tell her about the makeup comment. It should cheer up her warrior spirit!

I worked on the leather stuff.
Wow your sculpts and materials are extremely realistic, especially the skin. If it isn’t too much to ask, could you tell me how you start your base meshes? because they have really good topology from the start, or do you poly model the character’s and then detail them in zbrush, which I can’t imagine because that would take forever.
Thanks Aazv17! With a comment like that, I can’t refuse.
I like to create a very simple base mesh in 3ds max and not worry about proportions. Then, I’ll get it in zbrush and use the Smooth brush to even out the topology and inflate to get more volume. After that, I get back into 3ds max and continue adding edges, etc. I go back and forth many times between ZB and Max.
Zbrush is really not just for detailing.
If you have any other questions, go ahead!
Here’s a look at the progress:
Thank you very much for the reply, Really appreciate that you even put pictures on it. I have one more question though, for the hands and feet, do you model them separately with a reference image or modify them with zbrush and then weld them into the arms/leg or do you extrude them out from there? thank you in advance.
No problem!
I usually extrude it from the arm but I also cut it so the hand is floating at the end of the arm. That way, I can do all the topology work on the hand and not worry about the connection to the arm for now. The one thing I need to make sure once I’m done is that the border of the hand that will connect to the arm has the same amount of edges. I also like to make sure I don’t get any vertex with 6 edges coming out of them (often happens between each fingers). To solve that, I’ll just split the edge along the separation of the fingers. Same thing goes for the feet.
Like I said, when I’m in 3dsmax doing the topology, I’m not worrying about proportions so I don’t look at references at that point. I just make sure it’s all quad, it has to vertices with 6 edges or more coming out of them also that all the polygons are as square as possible, no long rectangles.
If you have any other questions, I’ll be more than happy to help!
Again, thank you so much for your tips, I will try out some of these techniques and workflow. It’s good to know that this forum has people that are willing to help the newer users like me.
Very inspirational stuff here! that last render, I really like the lighting!
I have to ask what is in the water in Montreal, because is it me, or is there a whole lot of talent there?
Thanks koro and Aazv17! Well, maybe I’m just not lucky but I’ve been looking for a job for long time…
Your works are special!
Beside very good sculpting and renderings I really like the tiny little detail mouse.
Cute.
Thank you Knacki! I ended up taking way too much time on the mouse. As I was working on it, I completely forgot it was gonna be super small in the composition hehe.
Here’s another update. I added the shoes, added belts, added back the leg armor, etc. Next will be adding metal buckles for the belts and hair.
I’m using photobucket.com to upload my images but shrinks the resolution. Do you know of an image site that doesn’t modify resolutions?
A closeup.
Why bother with armor if nearly every single lethaly vulnerable place on her is exposed?
Every part of her that is nearly instantly lethal is unarmored, while every part of her that while struck could cripple her but not as easily kill her, is armored.
I don’t think he was finished with the armor, but you do have a point that the armor would be unpractical at that stage, it looks hella good though. Anyway do you have any tips for making those details and are you polypainting the golden parts? because it looks really precise.
Thanks Aazv17 and Crusoe the Painter for the comments but my intent is not to build true to life warrior girl. If I did, she would be covered from head to toe with metal, she’d be very muscular, she wouldn’t have any makeup and most of all, she would not have any type of high heels! My goal is to create something that will showcase different abilities I have in character modeling like cloth, armor, skin shader, anatomy, etc. My goal is to get a job in either film or games and if you take a look at games like final fantasy and soul calibur you’ll see there’s worse in terms of realism.
I used to try creating realistic characters without any exaggerations and my portfolio looked bland and uninteresting. I was being anything but an artist. I’m now trying to create more imaginative characters with interesting designs instead of realistic ones.
For the armor’s golden ornaments, it was a bit tricky but easy to create. Here are the steps:
-Create ornaments on a seperate layer and only in positive values (only outward)
-Hide layer and fill polypaint with black
-Duplicate subtool and have the layer show on that new subtool. Fill with white.
-Select the first subtool (without layer) and do a projection with RGB. VERY IMPORTANT: have “outer” in the projection settings.
The subtool will now have a very precise white polypaint where the ornaments are. You can also do a Deformation—) Inflat at the lowest subdiv on the main subtool before projection. That way, less of the ornaments will be masked.
I comped some hair on one of my renders as a reference to what I would like accomplish. I don’t have hairfarm or ornatrix so I’ll have to do my best with 3dsmax’s Hair&Fur.
Here’s the reference image:
Very nice follow up! I like what you said about realism in games not being that accurate. I totally agree that characters should be stylized to a certain extent to seem more appealing. And in any case, more skin on hot girls is always a bonus in my book
Good luck with the hair!
Thanks Icebox64! I appreciate that.
Saw this over on polycount…sculpt is nice man. Again, some design issues but i’m sure you’ve heard that a million times. Love her face though…great work.
Thanks sarakawa! I’m actually going in another direction.
Hey, do you guys know a good website for image hosting? I’m using photobucket but it shrinks my images SSSSSOOOOO small it’s stupid!
I forgot to update in a while! Here’s an update image shrinked by photobucket!
