Watch me work.

Hi again, When I started this thread I was going to make a London after Midnight inspired guy. I was looking at a photo in a horror movie book that I had just gotten and thought that it would be cool to do a slightly stylized version of that guy. So I wasn’t concerned a great deal about doing a likeness I intentionally made the eyes and mouth bigger. Today as I was working on the head model more, I was feeling like I stylized it too much so what I did, and thought that I would share with you guys, is render a quick version of him in ZBrush export that image to photoshop and quickly paint in some changes to see if I wanted to change the model to a more real version. I think it is an interesting way to see what is wrong with your model and to see where you want to go with it. So anyways I thought I would share that bit of info and the resulting image with you all

In the zplugin dropdown—>ztimelapse, drag the page size slider over to the right for a 2048 dimension timelapse sheet. Double clicking the ztimelapse button allows you to restart it so you don’t chop the beginning off. I ctrl+drag the button onto my UI so it is easy to access for saving. The options allow you to set it to autostart, so you never need to remeber to turn it on- only to save it at the end of the session.

I love the style of the old b+w classic horrors, so I really enjoy your images. I love the lighting in them all.:+1:

The right pic for the end of the basement hallway :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Suberb job with the hand dude! :+1:

A project near and dear to my imagination, I’ve been keeping an eye on the work you’ve done. I tend to favor the non-stylized version. I have to say, your work on this character is fantastic, beautiful job! Please keep going with it.

For anyone curious, the 1927 film “London After Midnight” is a lost film. There are no known existing copies of it to view. I believe it was also released in the UK under the name “The Hypnotist”. To get a feel for the story, an adaptation was done as a “talkie” in 1935 with Bela Lugosi called “Mark of the Vampire”. In researching it there seems to be good plot synopsis available, along with plenty of lore and imagination about the film. I’m glad to see things like this living and growing further in people’s imagination. ZBrush being likened in a way to the make-up kits of greats like Lon Chaney, Sr. Wouldn’t it be interesting to do an animated remake…

MM, your hand study made me speechlessssss…:+1: U are great artist, 'coz the hand is most difficult to shot:+1: :+1: simply great…

awesome work!!!grats! this is without any doubt the best hand model i’ve ever seen, really impressive!

congratulations for the toprow, man!!!

Hi, worked on changing the face a bit making his less stylized. Did another quick render and then some quick photoshop work to better visualize where I’m at. I’m going to make a few more form changes then start texturing the face. Here is the latest image. Thanks for all of the complements on the hand. Most of the work on it probably won’t show in the final image.

MM: The angle and lighting on this one is just right for the subject. He reminds me of Dr. Caligari a bit also. My only siggestion is to possibly add a rim light to the left. It would bring out the contour of the hand a wee bit more and highlight the cheekbone and nose a wee bit.

You can do this by clicking the background in the little lighting sphere box. It switches the light between foreground lights and backlighting. If you know this already, i apologize, but it’s a nice feature that you might not have been aware of.

I have a feeling that this is gonna be my wallpaper soon…

I specially love the simple lightening but frigthening, and more, the eyes…

Do you use a gelly material, or its a normal material with high specular?

Hi, Still messing arround with this trying to get the likeness better didn’t have a lot of time today being the forth of July holiday and all. Again did a quick render and some quick photoshop to see how it looks more finished just to see the likeness better. Got kind of carried away trying to make it look like an old screwed up lost still. Thought it was sort of interesting so I’ll post it. At least you can see how the likeness has evolved. Well maybe you can’t with all the junk that I put over this image.

Sebcesoir, both this and the last image were just the fast shader I painted in the eyes and hair in photoshop no gelly material or high specular just a white dot on a dark painted eye.

great work as usual !!

I have a question to you : how can I do the hair in my last WIP ? I used the DECO BRUSH until now…but there is the problem that I can do this hair only over the head, and out of the head I can’t see it!! surely it is a problem of levels…

damn…!!! maybe with bake…?

congrats for your work, man !!

The character of your sculpt in that last image is really coming through! It reminds me of the old black and white images I use to see in Fantastic Monsters, or even Fangora. Nice work hip-hop! Also, I think your tutorials help more people then you know, so I hope you can keep them comin.

later,

Hi, I don’t know if this ever happens to you guys but I find many times when I’m working on a head especially a likeness I will work really hard on it one day ,look at it the next day and totally change everything that I did the first day ,come back to it the following day and change it back to something more like I had the first day ect ect. ect… Well that is what was going on with this guy. I also think it doesn’t help that I was looking at three totally different photos with different expressions ,lightings and for that matter probably photos taken with different lens. So I finally got fed up with changing this guy back and forth and decided to start some texture on him. So here is the beginning of the texture this is about two hours work in projection master. Quickly layed down some pores using a custom alpha, I think the same one that you can get from my old man thread, simple brush, drag react stroke, zsub intensity 2. The rest was a lot of hand work using again the simple brush ,freehand stroke, alpha #36, with various zadd and zsub settings. It’s just the beginning of the texturing process but I thought you might like to see it, plus I had to take a break from it for a moment.
Drummer,I must admit I know very little about the deco brush, when I have done hair in ZBrush I usually sculpt it as in my Jesus thread but I almost always paint hair on top of the sculpted version usually in photoshop because of similar problems to what you are having. I’m sure it can be done in ZBrush I’m just not sure how to do it.

Zack, Thanks. Hip hop?

lemonnado , It seems I can always count on you for a funny remark, thanks
