Ville's thread

Hello all! This is my first post here ever, and my comeback to forums as an active member. To make a very long story short, I’ve quit my job and now am dedicating time to what I like to do, and some freelance projects as well.

So I’ve created this thread to post my WIP work and get some feedback if possible.

I hope you guys enjoy!

1st WIP - Raiden Mark II
This is the 2nd attempt I’m making at the character Raiden from Metal Gear 4. I want to make it a bit stylized following my own sketching style.

Latest: starting to work on the exoskeleton parts

Ok not a lot of love

Anyways, as part of my studies I decided to do 1h speedSculpts every night, and leaving my pride aside, I’ll be posting them here as well.

Here’s my first from tonight, based on a photograph by Benoit Paillé. Fingers are crap as are a lot of other things, but that’s the whole point, I must get better with time and pratice.

Wow thanks a lot man! This keeps me going

Ok, yesterday I couldn’t do a speedsculpt, so today I’m doing two. Here’s the first based on a sketch of mine. Not very happy, but doesn’t matter, it’s the process that counts in this case…

cheers!

The thumb is a tad small… the skin folds around the tendon look really great! :+1:

Thanks man! Yeah definitely, you’re right. On top of it all, I should’ve planned the baseMesh a bit better…

Ok second one for today. This is freestyle, no concept, reference nothing. To be honest I think the design came out pretty dull…

Ok no speedsculpt today. but I spent some time with Joe’s hands. Not done yet, palm’s not been touched and some other stuff as well… thumb’s proportion to the rest of the hand is bugging me, but if I pull it out, it looks too big… anyways:

The style you’re using reminds me of the Emperor’s New Groove

Very nice studies :+1:

some angles the thumb looks fine other angles it looks too long and slightly too skinny, but its got a great stylized feel

there’s some nice technique showing through here. the leg from sketch looks a bit odd above the knee as far as musculature goes, but apart from that i like your syle

cheers

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys!! It means a great deal to me!

dustinbrown, I’m using as one of my reference images some hands by Milt Kahl, so it runs on the Disney blood  Emperor’s new groove has awesome style!

Today I couldn’t do much, but tomorrow I’m hoping to make up for it.

Cheers!

stylelish, cool…keep going!!:+1:

Thanks a lot man!

Ok, so today got some work done on the Joe character. Finished his normal version and started on the ´zombie´ version, which I´m posting now. Still some detailing to do.

Hey Ville, nice to see you here… I think the heads are rather problematic in your characters at the mo and generally a few more anatomy exercises would make a hell of a difference IMHO  Keep posting! :+1:

Hey Magda! Yeah, I’m using about half a year of my life right now to bring my skills to a professional level, and get a job by next year in games (not the perfect moment, I know :)) so I figured this would be the place for me

Thanks a lot for the input, I really appreciate it! Definetly something I wasn’t fully aware of, and I’m not about to pass tips from the master! Gonna do a lot more anatomy sculpts then!

Thanks again,
Cheers!

Hey guys!

Ok, following Intervain’s suggestion I’m focusing on anatomy studies. Been drawing, observing, and of course sculpting. Following Zack Petroc’s model I’m going to sculpt from the bone up.

Here’s the skull. I’d really love some input regarding anatomy in general. The teeth suck, I know, but I’m not too concerned with them right now because I want to focus on the form. I’ll move to the muscles of the face next.

thanks for looking!

nice style of figure, very animated quality.

Just posting to say I like a lot your cartoony character. The evry sharp edges look good aqnd reminf me of the Incredibles
How do you get clean sharp edges like that? Pinch or subdividing without smoothing? or anything else?
