agree with the anatomy and drawing, you defenitly have talent, but monsters, overdetailed stuff, and stylized figures hide mistakes. Try a few realistic nudes maybe post some drawings as well, the mistakes will be painfully obvious but thats all part of becoming better!! best of luck.
Hi Ville! Cool thread worx man! Keep goin’ ! Ow yeah, great you’re takin’ the time to do those anatomy studies - it’ll pay off big time!
- Lookin’ forward to the updates! Thanks for posting the Wip shots.
Thanks a LOT for all the replies guys! I really appreciate it!
threetails: Thanks a bunch man! Your work rocks, btw!!
bohemond: Thanks man! I love your work too, amazing. Haha the concept is from a friend of mine, and it reminds me of the incredible too, once it became 3D. I got the edges using pinch mainly, but it was really important to have the edgeflow favoring where I wanted to pinch. I started with a mesh already made for that, but retopologized it at some point to be more accurate.
dustinbrown: thanks for stoping by man, I really admire your work. Yeah, I totally agree. I would not waste the time of someone really good coming here and giving advice, you gotta listen to the voice of experience, hehe. I went too fast for the money, need to tighten the foundation.
jasperfiji: Thanks man! Yeah your totally right. After I finish this skeleton/muscle ref model I’m restarting my speedsculpts and all with realistic nudes.
etcher: Thanks a bunch man! Yeah nothing better then a strong foundation, eh? Man, your thread is a huge inspiration, both in work and organization, thanks a lot!
Ok, a small update, had a little time to do a couple of muscle groups:
cheers!
the thing i notice the most with the skull is the nasal bone should be coming out further. if you put the nose on now it would be quite flat. i also hear a lot about how the area around the teeth with the maxilla and mandible referred to as an orange or tennis ball shape. yours seems rather flat. thats whats poping out to me at the moment. i look forward to seeing this progress, i myself am thinking of doing something similar soon.
Man, thanks for the great advice! sorry it took me so long to reply, but I/m taking this slowly really studying the forms. So after your comment I spent some time analyzing ref and anatomy pics till I gave it a try.
Ok, so here’s another update. Pretty much nothing new apart from the fixes in the bones. I did the nose too, but it looks too bad to show yet.
Cheers!
Hey guys!
Ok, redid the basemesh for the orb oculi and now got it better, though very early stage of it. Mouth is still pretty early as well, chin gotta come out more, muscle definition, etc. Got the frontalis the zygomatics and the levator labii sup as well…
thanks for looking!
cheers!
This is looking great! Great structure. Are you attaching the muscles with the clay brush? And are they seperate subtools?
Hi Ville! Looks like your studies are already paying off! The skull looks much better and the muscles are coming along fine! Keep goin’ man!
Thanks for the love guys!
womball: Thanks a lot man! They’re not all separate subtools, they’re grouped up for convenience. I use the move tool a lot, the clay is one I’m yet to experiment with, I’m currently learning the clay tubes one.
Etcher: dude! Thanks a lot man, the support keeps me going! I agree, I’m very pleased of so much I’m learning of what “I thought I knew”, it’s awesome haha. Lemme know if you spot something wrong.
Cheers!
Hey guys!
So, been busy with a client project (non ZB, non fun) all week, but in between approvals I’m doing this. It started as a speed thing, just to break from all the muscle sculpting, but there’s some good 8h of work there. I’m calling it done soon, after doing the right eye and a couple other things.
I’m thorn, cause I was really happy with how much of the head anatomy I now knew clearer (I’m sure there’s a lot of wrong stuff to make me feel stupid about saying that) but the likeness was really tough and I feel that the more time I spend on it will make it worse, but I think it’s really off right now, so I feel trapped.
Anyways, here it is, based on the pic by Joey Lawrence:
great models
I really like the Joe character…
thanks a lot guys!
ok, so here’s another 2h study. Totally freestyle, though I’d better be only sculpting from ref right now, I guess…
anyways, any major anatomy issues I missed?
thanks for looking!
Great start, if you wish to find a good head anatomy vid, to compare your head sculpting against. Check out Ryan Kingslien’s video tutorial over at Gnomon, you can probably just search for it here, and he has made it available for free, can’t recommend it enough, so check it out.
Awesome man, thanks a bunch!
I’ll be sure to check it out!
cheers!
Hey guys, long time no post… got held back with some dull freelance projects, but used the time to go through some tutorials and to test some technical aspects as well, so it wasn’t a total loss
anyways, decided to go a series of heads before going ahead and building the skeleton/muscles for the rest of the body.
These two are about 1h sculpts, nothing fancy for sure, especially with the latest two additions to the top row :), but hey, one step a day right?
thanks for looking,
cheers!
Hey guys!
as a little break from the anatomy practice (I’m starting taking lessons with Alex Oliver, so I’m going to be doing a lot of it soon) I’ve decided to redo a project I did long ago.
Actually, this was my first real complete “thing” in 3D. It’s part of this story I’ve written, and I like it, but the realization is poor, so I’m redoing it.
You can watch the 15s clip here:
And here’s the beginning of the main character (Tom). Just concept sculpt, taking it nice and loose…
lemme know what you think and thanks for looking!
cheers!
Either you’re on Zbrush steroids or you’ve been practicing. Your cloth and soft body stuff is looking great so far!
