Trouble with Zsphere "insert Local Mesh"

So I found a great tutorial on the site on how to make chains quickly with zspheres and easily manipulated to move them around the scene.

http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Joseph_Drust

Thats the tutorial Im following.

My problem is when I click classic skinning and then use insert local mesh the only sphere that the mesh is inserted into is the one that is selected. The video i watched of this and the thread posted shows that it fills the whole mesh and the other zspheres go transparent and it displays the chain in it. Even if I click display the whole object does not have the chains and the one that I had selected is the only chain inserted. Does anyone know how to fix this? has anyone else had this problem?

through all my searches I still have yet to figure out why this is not working properly. I dled the plugin that is out there but it doesnt work as we by any means. I would still like to know if anyone knows how to fix this. Ive seen posts where I wasnt the only one with this issue.

Two possible solutions:

  1. Select and insert each zsphere manually. This may not be ideal for larger chains.
  2. Try this little script http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?94752-Useful-small-ZScripts-and-Macros-for-ZBrush-4-amp-4R3&p=743193&viewfull=1#post743193

That script is the mentioned plugin. doesnt work that great cause you cant adjust it once its been used like you can if its done right. There has to be something Im doing wrong or an option Im not selecting if its not doing it properly. Just wish someone could help as to why its not working like it should. The tutorial clearly has it shown with the transparent zspheres. and as you adjust the settings you can fix stretching and what not. I would like to know how that is done more so than the script. Not a fan of the script but thankyou for the suggestion. Until I have someone who can help me I will probably have to do it by inserting each one at a time.

Nah, it’s an outdated tutorial, there are several people reporting the same thing on newer versions, and there’s a plugin to help address it. There’s a pretty strong chance that you’re not doing anything wrong, and that it just no longer functions the same way it used to.

thanks so much! haha THAT has solved my problem. glad to know Im not doing anything wrong. I wonder why they made their program less awesome by doing this. Maybe they should have a button to turn it on or off when sending mesh through zspheres or just a single zsphere.
I appreciate your response!
