Tribal Old Woman

5 stars, if this doesn’t get top row I’ll personally start a picket line. Unique subject matter, excellent execution…so basically another brilliant work.

Wayne…

What can I say! just really really great Kris!!! i’m running out of words there
instant classic!

just wow :+1:

Kris, I’m no short ceramic red hatted gnome, but this is redonkulasly good.
Great subject, she projects emotion very well in each of the images, nice change of perspective. makes you think.

amazing as always Kris (starts to sound boring?;))
I would only change the small toprow pic

Lucky_1

Holy smoke that is an amazing sculpt.

Absolutely Beautifull. Love it.

amazing work kris

Only two quick questions, you say theer is 20 million in the scene, how many just in the face?

And did you create the texture via polypainting or thorugh photoshop/Zapplink?

Cheers mate, and again, awesome work.

Kris, As you know I have already emailed you and told you how great I think this is but I will do so again here. This is my favorite of all of your outstanding works. It is beautiful! I love it.

I really don’t think I’ve said this before, but the sepia image really fits into the masterpiece category :+1:

Astonishing work Kris.

hi friend, I already told you how this piece is damn cool! I was waiting to see the shaded version, masterpiece!

see you around :sunglasses:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Personally I tend to get a little irritated with having to sift through loads of “nice work” comments when reading a thread in search of some substance, but then how can you resist when faced with work like this? My first impression - Holy crap, THAT is good! So uh … Nice work man. You are deffinitely an inspiration.

The best way I know to put this is I thought the first image was a reference photo. Thank you so much for sharing.

thank you very VERY MUCH for your support and kind words! Means a lot to me.

jantim,
lol! Yeah, the colored ones were kinda stylish. It’s an interesting process. You start constructing a realistic render, color correcting it to look realistic and all. After that, you kill the colors to make it look like a real b&w picture and then you add the color again, as a hand painted colored b&w pic. Fun stuff.

HerbertCG,
deal!

fx81,
I agree. It’s just a good render to disguise the bad model

Lucky_1,
I agree man! What’s up with that thumbnail? I wanna see her face!

luisaum_gma,
you’re welcome.

phrenzy84,
the whole torso, head and arms session has about 4.6 million polys. I’m guessing that the head alone has about 2 million polys. For the face texturing, so far only polypaint and a little work in photoshop. I did use ZappLink for parts of the clothing though.

monstermaker,
Rick, thank you so much. I really appreciated your email and kind words. I’ll get better so I can make real justice to your wip portrait
I loved the tribal woman that you modeled time ago and I think it inspired me to create this one in some ways. Thank you!

Drummer,
thank you Marco!

Thanks to all of you that could see further over the pure technique part. I mean, tecnique is important but what is more important than giving a soul to your creation? This model was based in several different references. It’s not based blindly in one single real person. So, when you in fact are creating a character that does not exist in real world and are trying to make it to look real, then you’re in deep trouble because NO ARTIST will EVER make a perfect piece and it’s even harder when the piece is in part an idealization. You can find technical flaws in any image ever painted/sculpted/modeled etc, I can assure you. But the overall work is what stands out, not the little flaws.

BUT, when someone tells you about the “life” or “soul” in your character, then things make sense and those are the best things to hear. I personally feel that I gave a digital model a little of my own soul and when someone point this out, I’m the happiest person in the world just by hearing that. So, thanks a bunch for your words!

About the colored versions and the skin shader, that was intentional. I tried an artistic approach on those colored images, like b&w pics colored by hand.

These are some renders I did without all those photograph filters. She does look more realistic but I still stick with the stylish ones for pure option:

Hey Antropus, this is probably your most ‘human’ work up to date. And not just for its realism.

Actually I have a question!, I seen some of you other WIP/tutorial threads and you always seem to pay particular attention to Lighing/Composition.
I think it was asked before once, but Do you have any recommendation on Books learning about Composition and Lighting? Thanks

M

Amazign work! :+1:
