Kris, that’s top of the toprow! Keep posting your work
truely inspirational kris!
the emotion in her face is amazing! thank you for this amazing piece!
congrats!
Damn she looks good for her age. …or maybe it’s just the neckware.
the old photo looks great!
Great work Kris!!!
I’m really glad to have you as inspiration…
What a small world, isn’t it?? I’ll start working at Mister Grafix this week, the same place you have worked a few years ago… i don’t know if i have so much talent as you have, but i’ll keep trying… ^^
Wow! Not much to say apart from my awed congratulations.
Yeah wicked cool man!
I specially love the sepia version…
5 stars for sure, gongrats
Simply amazing work Kris, it trully is inspirational!!!
OMG! I kept scrolling down the page wondering where you found this reference photo. Then it dawned on me… Simply, beautiful. I do have one question, this seems to be more than a character study. Do you have plans for her?
Hi Kris, very nice model!
About your skin shader, do you use the mr fast skin? And what kind of maps do you make for your characters skin?
Antropus a.k.a Kris …a.k.a INEFFABLE and ILLUSTRIOUS ARTIST>>>…

Remib, markkens, piz, ivar_sn, Trybal, Morbius, Jason Patnode, dustbin1_uk, Bas Mazur, sadicus, Dondemaker, pixolClay, Marsyas,
thank you so much for such warm welcome to this work!
womball,
yeah, skin shader is tricky. One day I’ll make it work. As for reference, I’m using about 10 different pictures. For the face, an image from a book and a good amount of imagination. For the clothing and accessories, other images found on internet. There are some tips about wrinkles creation posted on the thread at CGtalk.
steveschultz,
it’s pure ZMapper magic
Tangent Normal Map, click on Normal Map button and done! No values needed to be tweaked in Maya. Just plug it, set to Normal map and render with Mental Ray.
Disco Stu,
me neither!
stump,
thanks Ralf!
Jason Belec,
thanks a lot man! Thanks to your wife as well. I’m glad you guys liked it.
Imhotep397,
no, with ZBrush 2 this work would be impossible… seriously. 20 million polys spread over 20 layers and still sculpting in real time like butter. Go ZBrush 3.1!
jit_gohil,
it’s hard to promise that. Working for the industry suck a little of your soul!
edgeart,
those characters are cool! I guess you wrote good things… ?
boozy floozie,
thank you so much! I love your clean dreamy style
skulll_monster,
thanks a lot man. You did a great job on the workshop and man, you’re a machine!!! So many cool models pop out of your tablet all the time!
alexleia,
thanks a lot Alex!
baker17,
thank you so much for mentioning the word “emotion”. That’s the most important aspect on character working. When an artist can communicate emotion with an image, to add a soul to those digital eyes, that is a good feeling. Thanks.
HerbertCG,
hey dude! Congrats on the new job. Please say hi to Marcos, Tony and everybody else over there. I’m going to Brazil in December and I like to meet you guys for a lunch or something.
Sebcesoir,
thanks seb. The sepia one is my favorite too
hyper1,
interesting that you asked. I’m a dumb artist who dreams about one day making a living from my personal work. So, my intention with this work is to start a series of more “serious” works, print them in limited amounts and sell them as artwork. Like, 100 copies of each work, starting from this one, all numbered and signed. It’s a good feeling to think of people buying CG work as art and having it hanging on their walls, at least I think this way.
Makes me feel more of an artist and less of a software “hacker”
luisaum_gma,
there are some good tricks and tips about skin shader in this thread at CGTalk. I posted some images over there: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=199&t=533682
mmsharish,
thank you so much. No Gods, no way. Just a bunch of people fascinated by art in general and passionate hard workers. It’s all about the amount of love you put on what you do, in any areas of life.
Thanks again,
-Kris
Wow…gives new meaning to the word : "photorealistic " … i think the "color"ones look great in the "old"style of handpainted black & white’s as seen often in old books on Anthropology ( no pun intended ,Antropus )
jantim
Everything has been said already I guess, and I totally agree. It’s so good to see you and your work again in this place Kris; always setting a new standard and showing what those sterile programs can do when you put your soul and mastery into it.
Four thumbs is my maximum rate for jaw-dropping bliss, so here goes:
kris,
it really shows ur passion towards art…
and i shud b thankful to u for posting and helping us learn better…thnks brother…cheers…
Sure man!! I`ll say hello… and would be a pleasure have the chance to meet you!!
And buy the way… i`ve just received an e-mail from Gnomon, about their workshop… is really nice to see that you are going to be part of it!
so… can we expect a Gnomon DVD about character modeling in ZBrush by Kris Costa?? hehehe…
the rendering looks fantastic.
one thing that looks really wrong is the fabric. there are too many folds and it has that shrink wrapped wet fabric look. the folds are just not working out.
also i think the face has too many parallel details making it look a little unrealistic.
