Topology & Flow Lab

Uh, Rastamant, just to be sure that I do everything correctly :

I load my tool with the topology in progress.
I don’t draw it on canevas or anything.
I press the CLONE button, just under Import in the TOOL menu.
I draw my cloned tool on the canevas, press T (edit) and now I should be able to see the topology I create and not only the one that was previously done.

Is that correct ? because if it is, it doesn’t work :S

@joebount: Just checked it with my rigged AverageMan.

With him is no problem at all, I even don’t need to make a clone.
The previous drawn as well as the new drawn topology is clearly visible and available.

I had this problem when I created the topo-mesh over a ZSphere-Base-model, after save and reload most topo-lines and -points where disappeared.
By making a clone, the problem was gone.

Maybe draw your reloaded model first on the canvas, press Edit and then clone it.
That’s the way I do.
Perhaps this makes the difference ?

Topo-test.jpg

nop, still the same … arg !!!
I deleted the original ZSphere, is that a problem ?
Thanks anyway

Maybe.

try again with some simple objects, make a ZScript to downlad and we will try to solve your problem.

Two more pics to show how easy topo-rigging is:
It only takes a few seconds to pose this.

Again a little OT (sorry for that) :

So far, I had my guerilla-war with mostly all existing rigging-systems, mainly C4D and even the famous messiah (beside the fact that they (PMG) are since several months and two updates not able to solve an essential problem between messiah and C4D so I cannot use messiah within C4D…  ) made me mostly headaches. I siimply had and still have major problems with these totally overcomplicated and hard to control rigging-systems.
So far.
Beside the fact that unfortunately ZB has no animation-feature, a better material-system and a more advanced renderer (whishlist  ), this is by far the easiest to handle rigging-system.
As like modeling with the new Tweak-brush combined with the new red-clay-material gives me for the very first time an absolutely smooth feeling like modeling with real clay, the topo-rigg is like working with a smooth wire-puppet.
Only a few handles that would pop up over micro-zspheres to ease contolling the rotation around the length-axis of a zbone are missing.
Beside that it’s absolutely perfect for me. Simply activate ‘Rotate’ (I use mostly only Rotate) and drag your zbone where you want it to be.
Also complex positions are so easy to archieve and to control.
Perfect.
I hope and wish that Pixologic will keep it mainly just right as it is now and will not ‘improve’ it to death by overlading it with handles, sliders, angle-schemes and so on.

Oooooooki, I found the solution :
-Draw your tool on the canevas and DO NOT edit it.
-Go into the topology menu and click Edit Topology so it’s unselected
-Re-click Edit Topology and you can work. No need to clone your tool

I hope it helps some other people

Another question because I didn’t have the time to browse all the new thread : is it possible to take a mesh from another software (my idea would be to take the mesh created with the topology reconstructed and tweak it by adding/removing loops, etc.), reimport it to ZBrush and project the details from the High res model I generated the retopologized mesh from ?

@ Plakkie: The Easy-topo-rigging-tutorial is updated.

@ joebount:

But Edit topology is not accessable unless you activate EDIT.
You can’t deactivate it that way.:qu:

will check this tomorrow or someone else will. Good night to all.

What I meant by do not edit is don’t do any work on it

OK, I see, sorry.:o

But with my topo-on zspheres-models I have to clone them.
Your way seems not to work with them.

Yes, you can project onto a imported base mesh the high-res features.

How?

Andreseloy

I noticed once i started treating the ZB3 rigg like bones in pmg messiah, i get better deformations.

K… not to be redundant but this thread is getting a little long to sort through.

I thought I read before about points not updating.

Meaning if you delete a point it doesn’t go away on screen. If you move a point it doesn’t update on screen.

Is there a fix for this?

TIA

Well looks like things are progressing.

As for those complaining about the long thread, especially as you don’t want to bother reading it. If you keep it up, people just get tired of helping. This tired old attitude demanding aid, but not taking the time to help yourself gets rather heavy for people. I mean you’re entitle to your perception of the Universe, bit posting these comments just make it longer.

For all of you advancing the enjoyment of Zbrush - HURAH!

I’ve found when the mesh won’t update properly, try turning off “edit topology” and then turn it back on. This usually fixes it for me.

You have masked points.
Ctrl + LMB-Drag a rectangle on a free place in the canvas, then it will work.

By the way, Jason is totally right.
Sure we have a little bit OT here and there, but every post can lead to another solution that might not be found otherwise.

Plakkie condenses this all in his Top-Page (and be sure that this is a time-consuming work, so big thanks to him for his effort :+1: ), so you can read only this Page No.1 if you want a quick overview without digging through all posts.
(Btw,also the answer to your question is found there.;))
More complex themes are explained in the tutorials.
So, instead of searching through all the web, we have here a melting pot where you can find mostly all about this theme.

Thanks guys.

I wasn’t being judgemental, I think I worded what I was trying to say wrong.

No offense was intended.

And thank you, yes thank you everyone for all the help.

As for my issues with locked points… I think my file became corrupt.

I went back a couple of saves and reworked what I was doing and all seems to be well now.

Keep on, Zeein’ on!!!

So, the main page is updated to keep track of of Rastaman’s inventions.
Links to tutorials updated, and made a new topic for transfering on rig to other meshes. (by the way: is it transfering or transferring? And rig or rigg? Don’t have a dictionairy around right now)
Rastaman, the front page could really do with a well rigged demo-model. It could convince people to try it out, as they should.

Kind words by many people. Everyone deserves a big :+1: for the work on this thread, or just for reading it.

As for FreddyFish’s post and Jason’s answer: all has been said, a good point made, and no offence taken. This thread is long, and hard to sift through for me too. That’s why the first post is constantly updated: for easy and quick access to all we discover in the posts. Check the Q&A list too, it has most problems answered.

Ooo! The topology lab in my signature.

Rasta, plakkie, angel, andres etc… you are making this easier and better every day and posing in zbrush is now very easy. thanks you so much…
