TMNT: A Darker Version

Hi everyone, I wanted to do a turtle that was a little older and a little meaner. I liked the movie version but I really wanted to see a more adult version. I remember owning a couple of the old black and white comics and could have sworn there was blood and characters getting slashed by swords in those books. Or maybe that was my own imagination as a kid. It was so long ago I can’t remember.

haha thats awesome!

i used to have the old eastman and laird turtle comics and they were bloody i think. more so than the animated series and the movies i believe. nice image. z render?

Thanks Logick, I wasn’t sure about the old turtles book having blood and stuff in them. I think I might surf the net and see if any of them are for sale. I’d like to have a couple for the nostalgia of them.
Oh I just saw your aliean head you did, it looks really good. Love the details. I’m going to start ZB3 tonight, still trying to figure out what to model.
Anyway, thanks again.

dude! that’s fricking awesome! love the poses… my only crit would be that they’re looking a bit monochrome (green all over). maybe the straps an

Big fan of the original comics and some of the more serious derivative designs.

Very cool work. My main critique would be that for turtles, the shell looks a little tacked on… might be nice to incorporate it (in a cool fashion) around the entire torso.

PS. You can read the first few original series comics at the official website…here’s a direct link (scroll down):

thats sick. It’s my new desktop worthy!!!

Zerodean: I just check out the very first black and white issue on that site you told me about. Man that takes me back. :+1: So cool!!! Thanks a bunch. Going to read the other ones soon. About the model, I did the shell as a seperate part so that I could get more detail in the model but I really agree with you. It does look like the shell is just slapped on. Thats something I want to fix. Thanks for the advice.

MattSilverstein: Yeah I think the model could use more contrast. Do you think maybe each turtle should have it’s own variation of the shade too? I think someone had mentioned that at CGTalk. I was thinking that’d be a cool idea. Thanks for the advice Matt.

here are some close up shots of a couple of them.

Congrats on making the coolest possible ninja turtles i’ve seen in a long time. Though something about raphs shoulder is driving my eyes crazy. it reminds me of a misplaced chunk of plastic on one of my old action figures. Great Job.

Great “butch-we-didnt-arrive-with-the-pc-parade” look on those turtles. :+1:

Just once I would like to see someone give each of the Turtles a different body shape. Everyone always makes them pretty much identical just with different weapons (and sometimes the cartoon colored masks).

The original turtles all had red masks.

awesum dude, a turtle it was on my plans for a while now, hehe you beat me!! nice job specially leo my fav, way better than the movie TEEN kind of stuff, about the comics i think in one of the books raph gets insane and kills splinter to comit suicide next, but i think it was in the JAP version

There are totally awesome…:+1: :+1: Love the TMNT

This is how it should have been, great work…

Ah the turtles, a long time childhood hero! Yours are just amazing. Very nice details.

Also just for conformation, yes, the old comics did have blood, killing, and a bit of profanity. I still have a copy of the first series graphic novel. Great stuff!

Tore’alos,
Wyrm

Best turtles I’ve seen in a while.

There was definitely blood in ‘some’ of the Turtles comics. One series in particular featured Raphael as an alcoholic. It had copious amounts of blood although (I think) most of it was black rather than red.

Wow! Great work! :+1:
This is how I remember TMNT.

Totally great stuff.

I also thought the film could have been a little more… exciting and adultish. Had the comics too and I also think there was a little killing and stuff. If they had of used your models for the movie… hell yeah!

I’m pretty sure it was the michael zulli issues that were more realistic/bloody.
