TMNT: A Darker Version

now thats how it should be! great sculpts and texturing, you should be proud!

The modeling is great, but the texturing could use some work… It looks so monochrome it’s hard to identify a lot of the distinguishing features. Some suggestions: disparity in skin tones on some of the turtles (ie: make one or two slightly darker than the others, or more saturated), you could add spots on the shoulders and head that you see on turtles sometimes (they look like liver spots, but they’re darker shades of green… some of the turtle movies used these markings if i recall correctly). The shell could also be toned up a bit to stand out from the skin of the turtle itself. IE) make the belly area more yellow/brown, make the shell more brown, etc. I think some more attention to the texturing will really take these models to a whole new level. Great work so far, I hope it’s not finished

Cool! I especially like the posing of the characters in the goup photo. We’re clearly in for some action.

…in fury ! :+1:

Very nice and well done! Brought back memories of the black and white TMNT. Think you did a nice rendition with a nice composition and poses. Appreciate showing us your work, keep it up. :+1: :+1:

A fantastic updating and steroidal re-vamp. Lovely graphic novel poses too. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Did you use Zbrush Transpose to pose these or did you pose them in a different program?

that was nice.

Hahaha!! Fantastic work!!! nice take on TMNT Much better than in last CG movie!!!:+1: Nice looking - I like most Leonardo with the bow (in pose of Legolas) and damn awesome pose in the last from the right!! i like them all!
Cool Poses!! Nice ribcages and arms (need bit more work on leg muscles)
Looks almost finished.
Push bit more on texturing amd lighting and it’s gonna be an instant classic.
Few buts I would fix (but it just me , u can ignore me…):small_orange_diamond:sunglasses:
U could separate chest shell with color and outer beveling…
kneepads look bit childish…
is back shell is melted into the skin or it has connection with the front shell (looks like melted in atm)?
Anyways it looks fab!! I will shut myself up and stand into corner…:stuck_out_tongue:
Nice woork keep ep coming!!:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Hi everyone, thank you so much for the awesome responses and the helpful criticism. I do think I need to push the textures a little more, maybe have more contrast between the chest plate and the rest of the body. I stil need to work on the transition from the body to the shell also. Right now it’s just placed right on top of the back. I’ve been working on it for awhile and I just really wanted to have a few renders to put into my portfolio. Hopefully a few more pieces will help me land a job in the industry.

Anyway, I hope to have more time for these turtles because there is so much more that I would like to do with them. I want to dirty them up and put them in some battle scenes with huge mutant creatures. Maybe have them surrounded by hundreds of foot soldiers too. I think I’ll go back to the black and white books to get some more ideas.

I also want to give them more individualized looks like I heard a few people say. Just different skin, not too sure about different body types.
Any ideas on how too make them darker and more adultish, I’d love to hear them.
Oh yeah, to answer a few questions, the turtles were rigged and posed in Max, but I want to try the tranpose in ZBrush3. And the render was also done in Max with Mental Ray.

Well, thank you guys again. The responses have been very helpful. This ZBrush community is full of a great bunch of people with so much creativity and imagination. Oh and I’d like to thank Will a moderator of this website for helping with a image posting issue. You guys here at ZBrushCentral are awesome.

Thanks,
Dennis

I agree 100%. The CG movie was like a updated version of the 80’s cartoon, not the comicbook. If they followed the comic book the gore level would of been closer to 300 than Meet The Robinsons. It probbaly would of done better at the boxoffice if it tried to kater to the original fans rather then build a new kiddy fanbase.

would of done ? i don’t think that’s correct, lol, anyway very nice work with the ninjas denni5, interesting concept, they look more brutal and athletic and their pose is awesome, esspecialy the one with the bow gives me the thrill

I don’t get your post? Do you mean you think that TMNT did great at the box office? Because it didn’t, only made arround 50 million domestic and cost about 35 million to make. 300 cost arround 65 to make but took in over 200 million domestic.

Good start and killer weapons to boot!

I think you need to make them all a little more different from each other, there so similar to each other. Also your shoulders stick out to far and look very boxy, also some of your muscles could do with a more knitted look the forearms and calves in particular. Also the shell looks like its mad of paving stones it might help to look at a tortoise to get that really segmented look

Notice how like the rings of a tree they move out, the smallest part is when they where a hatchling. And the outer ring is the newest ring.

You have done a nice job on your textures really well done.forearms .jpgtortoise_shell.jpg

Thats great, Dennis. You beat me to it! :+1: With my turtles, I’ll be aiming at the movie-like chubby cheeks rather than the rounded form in the early comics.

Heres a great shading and rendering technique I think you and I should both apply to our turtles:

Bravo Dennis, bravo. :+1:

Cheers,
Paul.

i agree entirely, Buckie.

Well, think about the weapons each of them use and build thier bodies more toward thier specialties. It just makes more sense.

hey askue thanks for the tips on the shell and anatomy. i’ll definitely keep those in mind.

subspark, thanks for the shading and rendering tip. there are some things that i want to change on the turtles. definitely more variation between the four. so are you still going to do the turtles? let me know when you post them, i’d love to see them.

RaelNorth thats a good idea. i’ll keep that in mind when i start modifing them. thanks.

Buckie, metrodance, and Prevenge thanks a bunch for the comments. I hope to post a new render of these guys soon.

denni5

Koo tutrles man. Notsure about the Rhino style skin marks over the arms and legs, but thats just me

Love these guys would like to see them in a movie like maybe the turtles grow up, get better at fighting and lay off the pizza lol. Don’t get me wrong I liked the old movies and cartoons (they were fine for the time era they came out in), not too impressed with the new movie or cartoons, though. Yours definitely kick mutant but. Can’t wait to see them finished.
