the Universe: how many polys?

Well, it’s 3:35am here and I was asking myself:
“If the Universe was made in Zbrush, how many polys would it have at present?”

my first guess:
[15610^9 light years (estimated diameter) * 10^15 meters per light year * 10^35 Plank lenghs per meter] ^3 visible spacelike dimensions =
156
10^[(9+15+35)3]=
circa 160
10^180 poligons!
that means
one hundred and sixty -NOW REPEAT THE WORD “billions” 20 TIMES- poligons
:eek:that’s a lot of RAM…

PS: “^” meaning “to the power of”

Reminds me of Steven Wright’s droll observation that he has a map of the USA…

…life size.

…on a normal screen 1000 * 1000 pixols with 16 000 000 colors
so 16 000 000 power of 1 000 000 screens possible
so a numeral of 72 000 000 numbers longer
Not so big !

In fact visible univers on a computer is some smally

Ps That was one of my first post on ZBC Take a look here

Frenchy,
both numbers (universe and screen) give us much more freedom that we could even imagine, but can see for ourselves for example here on ZBC or out of our windows [and Mac ].
The really cool thing is that in real universe each poligon is an actor and interacts with the others, and this would be great to have in Zbrush: polys that have vorticosity or attract/repel spontaneusly their neighbours. You model something then let it go a bit on his own, then tweak it again, then let it go (like growing a model instead of playing god with it :), I think it would be lots of fun. Instead of cycling trough all pixel combinations on the screen this would be more enjoyable I think.
Marcuuuuuuusss_civis?!?! Can you hear meeee? Isn’t this a cool idea for a script ?!?

Dogbone,
Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk?

PS: the word god is intentionally left lowercase meaning a generic divinity, hope no one of any religion is offended by the comparison between divine creation and a computer program. This is not intended to be blaspheme in any sense.

…knows that your “god” play dices!

You right 3D polygons are more interesting but at last we generaly only see it on a screen

this is only a matter of time… holography awaits us:eek:

It’s a very cool idea. My problem is that I’ve a suspicion that I’m actually pixols already (you know, that ‘can’t get out of bed in the morning’ feeling, like you dropped hard on the canvas the night before?..) and that someone somewhere beyond the ‘universe’ is doing their best not to press CTRL+N by mistake while they’re having a good laugh. Sometimes the universe seems like it’s being run by a bored teenager.

Still, I could be a Bryce boolean object so I’m grateful.

…but how many dimensions would it take need to make the universe from any arbitrary metaphysical groupoid?

http://chir.ag/stuff/sand/

requires java.

With pixols it’d be 3.5D fun.

…think that Twin Univers group are possible
So that double the possibilities

Ps Funny Java Prog! AnTi
Pss The site of Roger Iss the french father of the “Sand Heap theory” in english

Antimorph:
looks kool the sand game, gotta work now, I’ll play around this evening

EDIT:
“…but how many dimensions would it take need to make the universe from any arbitrary metaphysical groupoid?”

well… THE answer is of course 42!

I think I have to agree with Marcus about being Pixols…just this morning I looked into the mirror and parts of me were missing.

NA, I don’t think it takes that many. It’s 2.5D ;-). And in this context… The Z-Universe IS flat! But colorful! And coated with tasty materials!

PS:Stop taking that stuff!

…it’s less than the 10 000 pages of Marcel Proust “A la recherche du temps perdu”
(“In search of lost time”

Frenchy :
less pages but I guess more delirious  I wish I had enough time to read them both…
Marcus_civis scripsit:

You could also have been a 3dsmax 3.0 boolean, anything normal about you would have ended flipped
But in the end the worst thing you could have ever been is
A MICROSOFT OFFICE ASSISTANT!!!

Consider yourself lucky ;)!

not sure, but even if the [something]-verse were made of pixols and had (x * x) + 1 dimensions, for practical purposes a clipping [something] that displayed only 4.5d might be sufficient

Now if you’d considered pixols, the answer would be so much simpler:

4096x4096=16,777,216 pixols maximum

See? EVERYTHING is easier with ZBrush! :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Aurick,

Be a sport and answer my mac specific memory question a few threads down will you?

Maybe we’re all characters in “The Sims, Version 9,999”

Now if you’d considered pixols, the answer would be so much simpler:
4096x4096=16,777,216 pixols maximum

…are (with 16 000 000 colors - I simplify -

16 000 000 power of 16 777 216
so aproximatively a numeral of 120 795 955 numbers longer
But we have not yet all a monitor screen of 4096 * 4096 pixols
All is so eaZy with Zbrush
