[ATT=]CreatureBluePose_002.jpg[/ATT] Hi everyone, been away from the forum for a while and there’s been some truely fantastic inspiring work here again recently all deservidly top row.I’ve always been a fan of The Creature From The Black Lagoon so here’s my homage with special thanks to inspiration over the years from Steve Wang in perticular.Couldn’t make up my mind which colour,so here’s both.Base model in Maya, sculpt, bump, paint in ZBrush, render in Mental Ray,hope you like,Swin
excellent execution
Super! I love your design your could do a nic e remake with this design…
My 2 cents comments would be : what about trying a bit more contrast skintine (but the greyish looks great too), and have you try some wett rendering of the skin? It would push you sculpting details and push the comming from the sea effect
COuld you tell me about ourself? Are you illustrator? DO you work for an FX compagny?
I would like to try do some some charaters designs, but I dont know from what to start from… Do you have some advices? Do you take parts from separated pictures to build new one?
And about your tectures, wich looks great, do you hqve good trick to paint those special spots on the legs and shoulders?
GREAATTTTT!!!
This is very jaw dropping work. I saved all these images. Love the Creature theme always. You did one helluva job on this, Howard.
Hi,Swin here just thought I’d add a couple more images, one of which is the grey model with only the bump added, hope it shows the guy off a bit, cheers Swin.

This guy scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid!
Great version, I love it.
Did you make this guy as one single model or did you make separate components, arm, leg etc?
thanks for showing this.
Eddie
Hi Swin,
nice modeling , did you paint the textures in the zbrush?
Hi,the creature model is one complete mesh,no separate bits, about 4.5k polys, the displacement map is 4096 by 4096,paint and bump are both 2048 by 2048,painted completely in ZBrush using projection master and out of the box alphas but flipped in PS,hope that helps, cheers Swin.
really amazing piece!
Fantastic piece, great
great looking creature!
one of my favorite old movies.
I think the darker one looks more menacing but something seems off…can’t quite put my finger on it…maybe it’s just that his belly and chest are too light?
anyway very cool!!
Nice work Swin!
Can’t wait to see more!
Peace,
NickZ.
Excellent work… i love the texture
top quality work
OOOOO This is a cool creature…really amazing work!!! I love both color textures you have there.

Damn! I am going to have to dig out those old videos! Great interpretation, love the pose. Now where is our gal?
excellent!!
Great work man. The stretching on the abdominals and the foream especialy stood out for me. Probably because modeling forearms tends to make me want to but my fist through the monitor .
Highly skillful work that portrays a lot of narrative inner life to your creation.
Great work my friend, excellent “anfibius” skin.Love it.
