Speaking of which, what happened to your scuba girl tutorial? I’ve been watching for it.
There are no good tutorials available for hard surface modelling in ZBrush out there. Even if it’s just the scuba girl mask, I’m looking forward to it. (I’d pay good money to see a tutorial on the Hellboy-Johan model!)

About the Indiana Jones whip, I created that piece in maya. I began with just a portion, pushed around vertices until I had the right sort of flow, in the right sort of cylinder shape. Then I deleted the faces on the top, duplicated the small braided portion I had made, then welded the duplication on the top. Then duplicated THAT longer section and continued in the same way until I had a really long whip. When I finally brought it into zbrush, I tapered the entire braided cylinder until it looked right.
I think I brought it back into maya and coiled the whip. Back in zbrush I divided it, gave it ‘noise’, and sculpted it out near the handle and at the tip.
- about jointing in Zbrush, it was neat that I figured out how to do it - but the bottom line is that is too much of a hassle compared to inserting joints in maya. Maya creates rotating joints and proper fitting male and female parts much easier.

Here is a demon I did for Golden Axe Beast Rider. This is the first version. Concept was done by a combination of ideas from a team, final drawing done by David Igo.
After I worked this out I moved to another team within Gentle Giant and this demon evolved in the hands of Nobu Sasagawa and others.

Just an old question… did Gentle Giant cancel the black pearl/kraken maquette that started this thread? I just got my animated elizabeth swann yesterday, and remembered I’d never seen it offered for sale at all anywhere.
So far it hasn’t been produced, sadly. I was just looking at some old photos of the resin copy and was thinking the same thing.
I haven’t talked to anyone about it, but I think its a production nightmare with all the parts.
Drat. I was really looking foreward to it’s release, far more then the figures themselves.

BTW, I noticed many of those animated POTC statues can be found pretty cheap. I just picked up the girl for $24 shipped.
