The Black Pearl

well, since you asked…

She is very athletic, dynamic, and graceful looking. Nice model indeed. I see her kind of leaping or jumping through the air, shooting fireballs out of her hands, her long hair flowing or trailing behind her almost like lightning bolts…a powerful combination of beauty and grace (your character) combined with the force and fury of lightning and fire. So I guess what I’m getting at is it would be cool to see the fireball(s) and dynamic forces she’s unleashing sculpted and modeled, and perhaps painted as well. That seems like it would be fairly unique and pretty cool of properly executed. I dare ya  …and maybe a cool base that is somewhat ambigous and dynamic, not so much ground but more like air rushing by like in the background of an action shot in a comic book. The mask maybe isn’t too exciting but I’m sure something cool will come up once you start bringing her to life…Good job…I look forward to seeing what you come up with…

Awesome ideas! I’m glad I posted. I was going to make her name the ‘firefly’ and put globes of light around her hands - maybe ill change it to fire and call her something else. Ya that mask is real generic. Thanks for the thoughts

First of all very clean beatifull model, the terms and thoghts could be anything,i personally like the second haircut(boycut hairstyle)but it looks similar to Robin(batman and robin).now she can be his future partner:) .the pose is great.really eager to see what will be the final output.:+1:

Cool pose on the chick dude, and that hair looks great! nice job, will be interesting to see where u take this

Really well made model.

P.S.: IMHO the feet have a comics look instead of a real aspect (but this isn’t necessary a fault)

P.P.S.: sorry for my English, hope you understand…

Bye

very great , clean and bueatiful model

Fantastic work Brandon.

If I may ask how did you go about doing that design on that super hero girl’s chest so that it fits perfectly with the body below (I think you did the same with your Death Eater mask (if that’s his name?)). Is it just an extrusion/inflate?

Thanks for sharing.

romilkchoprazb - You know what, me too. With the shorter hairstyle she more original and I like that.

JohnnyRaptor - Thanks!

madmatt - Thanks, yeah and I’m going to emphasize more of the character like those feet, giving it more of a comic feel.

~mindrot~ I’ll show you right now, let me start zbrush and export some images.

barbarossaX, infamouskiller, Thanks!

Here is a quick way to make the chest symbol. Find a nice alpha or make one. Use the draw rectangle stroke to place it on your character. I didn’t make this symbol small enough within its white space to avoid the radial fade, so be sure you do that.

Now use extract (set at .0034). The extracted subtool will have three polygroups. Mask them all but the one facing out. Use the transpose move (looking at the symbol from the side) to thicken it. You’ll notice the edges are a little bumpy - so keep the masking.

Now you can use the smooth brush, or deformation smooth to clean up the edges of your symbol if you like. This will get rid of the hard bumpy edge.

Thanks for the quick reply Brandon. Much appreciated

I’ll have to give extract a go.

Your work is simply wonderfull…wonderfull.

GREAT WORK !

small question if I may :
can you give us a small walkthrough on how you split your sculpts for casting ?
i mean that little cubic indent IN and OUT like on the Indy and Johan busts.

How do you cut them and how can you be sure that they FIT perfectly ?
thx in advance

looking forward for more updates on ur thread…

would you care to share how you did the hair on the superhero girl, i have an idea but just in case i might learn something new.

I admire your work, you are working on great projects and sculpts and I really envy you working for Gentle Giant. I’m looking forward more sculpts from you, keep working and posting.

Great talent artist! Incredible work!
Congrats!

Hey man,
Very nice, loved this piece! I wish I was in trouble so she can come and rescue me!.
Thanks for all your tips. I know that you can not go into details on how you do certain things but the ones that you can are very useful. Once again thank you for sharing those with us.
By the way, congratulations on your first video tutorial for gnomonology

http://gnomonology.com/inst/16856.

I hope there are more to come.:+1: :+1: :+1:

Thanks for all the comments, much appreciated.
The jointing is a dance with a lot of steps, involving snapping, deformations, transpose master, cloning … so I’ll put together a tutorial sometime.

I’m going to (sometime) put together small tutorials showing things like this.

Thanks again,
Brandon
