Superman Returns WIP

This is my first post and my second zbrush model. The first model is still going but I thought I would post my Brandon Routh model. After watching the Sups movie (which was way cool) I had to do a Sup model.

The model was rendered in Maya with mental ray no sss but has Final Gather and a high and medium displacement map. The model is still WIP and I plan on sculpting the hair, adding some PFX for the curl and adding SSS.

Cheers

Hi,

I’ve now added SSS to Sups using the great Antropus settings (your da man). Anyhow I now need to contact the SSS to a mix8 in mental ray as the bump map isn’t working.

Cheers

A good start with your 2nd ZB model. Your general mesh needs more definition. I would say that it is easy when using a photo reference, projected onto the model for aiding sculpting, to lose sight of the underlying model. I suspect that you worked from a front image and a side image for your development, which can lead to flattening of the cheeks/cheekbones area (amongst others). Now that you have a good starting point I would turn of the texture for the projection and realy concentrate on the form. Certainly before I would worry about shaders.

I hope this helps. I don’t mean to sound picky… I just want to help.

Hi

Ive been workin on a superman returns model aswell but im also a noob…hehehe
what ive done here is about as far as my zbrush abilities are right now so im hitting the tuts…lol

the head i did first and then i did a full figure which are both wip’s…im not good with texturing and making displacement and bump maps and things like that so im working on them now…

i just posted this pic as one superman fan to the next…enjoy!

Thanks for the advice Elixir I went back into Zbrush and gave the head a bit of a working. I still need to fix the hair and the eyes and i will post a pic when I re model the mesh.

Dom360 cool Sups although the flying one looks like his losing his hair, paint the top part of the head the same colour as the hair.

Cheers

The light that bruns twice as bright lasts half as long

Updated head pic of a brandon routh look alike, still needs a some work but I will keep working on it. I made the cheeks/brow more pronounced, rounded the chin and made his neck bigger. The render is maya software with a blinn. Any comments or suggestion appreciated.

Looking much better. I don’t know the person you are doing here, but I would thing the lips seem too thin.

It’s coming on though… keep going.

Me again with another update, the jaw line has come down dont know why it was so high in the first place and I rounded his cheeks so theres a better flow. Elixir I am modeling Brandon Routh, I still have issues with the jaw and cheek location (should it be higher or lower?). The image is rendered in mental ray with a HRDI image.

Hopefully the prespective issue is dealt with in Zbrush 3 as its a pain to keep draging the mesh in maya for render, my last count was 15 meshes going back and forth and I suspect that it will be another 15 before I’m done…if ever.

Sorry for the large image Im working on my dell with 1920 res so I need to output 1024 to see anything.

WOW! its coming along nicely…hmmm? i think i need to get maya too hehe…i started a new one but this time i made the mesh in 3dsmax first heres how far i am…needs a lot of work though

I think for your pic his lips do look abit thin (i know mines a bit too thick!) anyway you could pull just the tops of his ears just slightly outwards then it should look good…but its coming along really well…i like your textures, did u make the eyes in zbrush or maya?

My latest update, only a colour map at the moment. I think I’ve finished the head in terms of overall shape I will update the fine details next and finish the body.

Dom thanks for the comments I made the lips more fuller and fixed the overall shape of the head, I forgot the ears but will update soon. Your model is looking good, stretch the head down the Y axis to make it a bit longer and the ears look spot on. Also I think the nose should be a bit bigger and more flat.

My eyes where made in Maya as a Nurb sphere with a ramp as the colour, theres some helpful tutes here at Zbrushcentral on making the ramp colour. I think I need to spend some time on the eyes to make them look real cus currently they look fake. Also the the curl is a dynamic curve for testing.

can you please post a sideview of the head?

Heres a side view of the head. To point out the ears still need work, I have also mapped out the UVs set for the body. The body has loads of non quads but Zbrush had no issue with them, I suppose when I run a displacement map it might have some but we’ll see if its required.

Still loads to do, textures, hair, eyelashes (curved poly plane with alpha map) and most important the Superman symbol which will be a seperate mesh. Also for the final render I will be using a displacement/bump map (high and med details) with SSS and lit via HDRI and some illuminated objects (hopefully the laptop doesn’t blow up)

:roll_eyes:small_orange_diamond:roll_eyes:small_orange_diamond:roll_eyes:that is not a side view, that is a 3/4 view.

i am asking for a side view because the back of the head looks wierd and i want to make sure before i say anything… side view please

Hi Joopson, side view updated above. Any feedback would be great thanks.

Cheers

the back of the head is looking waaaay to flat

Its cause he sleeps facing up… I will update tonight together with the ear. but I won’t post until I have something a bit better to show. Thanks.

thanks jdraks…ill see what i can change in the modelling aspect but ive started working on the texturing and its looking good for a start…heres the pic

super4.JPG

tell me what u guys think?

oh btw your sup update looks good but that side view is a bit haunting…hehe well ill be honest with u…the back of this pic doesnt have much color either…i think its cause we wanna see the front so badly and we want it to resemble what we’re making that we forget to add detail to the back…thats very normal for noobs like us…hehehe

Keep up the good work.

Heres the latest update. Rendered in mentalray with just a colour.

I finished the super logo and belt. Next is the eye lashes, mouth and displacements for head. Dom the texture is looking cool what res did you use for the texture? I corrected the back of the head but will post later, still looks a bit off.

Cheers
