Spotlight keeps crashing z4... (Answered)

Spotlight seems to be extremely unstable-- Crashes every other time I turn it on. Tried switching to basic polySphere and default texture to make sure it wasn’t just my model- it’s not. Crashed out about 6 or 7 times within the last hr.

I’m having the same problem. Every time I try an use Spotlight, Z-Brush 4 crashes to desktop.

Running Windows Vista 64

Spotlight is EXTREMELY unstable for me and my MacPro running OSX 10.6 Guaranteed crash within 2 minutes. I’ve found it to be more stable n my Windows 7 machine. Only crashed a few times in the last 24 hours there.

Alright, I fixed it by going here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Pixologic\ZBrush 4.0\ZStartup\ConfigFiles

and deleting the 2 files I found in there. After I deleted them, it seems to be working fine now.

Try that, Todd…

I’ve been getting some random crashes while PolyPainting with SpotLight, can’t seem to recreate it, it’s pretty random… sometimes I can work for 10 mins, this last time I had been working for 30 mins… ouch…

I really wish the Zprojects saved polypaint now

Quick System Specs
Win 7 Ult x64
Dual Xeon 5650s(24 Threads Combined)
24GB DDR3
GTX 295

Same issues here, under Vista 32bit. For me, while running Spotlight, if I select an image from Lightbox I get quite a few crashes (default textures).

Same issue here. Random crashes while using Spotlight
That makes the feature useless :frowning:
Running Vista 64 sp1
GTX280

Tried deleting the config files as stated above, but still get a crash within 5-10 minutes of use.

Hopefully this is a setting issue.

Really frustrating.

Yes i’m experiencing the same on a Vista64 Machine. Works a couple of times and then crashes ZB.
For infos sake it crashes not when i activate spotlight but when i start painting after activating spotlight.

regards

Nicholas

Scrap that - now it crashed when adding images to spotlight. It seems random at the moment.

may be I’m wrong, but when I ensure that the paint tool is selected on the wheel before any stroke, it seems to work better.
When I enter lightbox mode with shift-Z, the wheel doesn t appear, I guess it s in paint mode, pressing Z the wheel comes up with no tool selected. So for now, before any paint on my mesh, I get sure paint is selected.
It seems to me that I get less crashes this way and have been able to work for more than an hour

Yeah I’m getting crashes also – to the point i can barly use lightbox :frowning:

Thanks

yep i have the same problem spotlight crashes every time when i try to paint the texture what a pity i hope pixologic will fix that

Seems a bit more stable but… Still crashing out quite a bit. Haven’t tried your suggestion yet Dickie- A little nervous about stripping stuff out manually. Do you work for Pixo or were you just tinkering around with the zBush’s inards?

AS awesome as all the new features are I have to admit that I’m more than a bit surprised that Pixo still hasn’t released a 64 bit version yet. Any plans on doing this soon? Max/ Maya/ and the other app that shall not be named all run sooooo much better/faster on 64 bit systems IMHO…

Yes, I too am experiencing the same crash. Ive opened spotlight by using the www link in lightbox and selecting the yahoo plugin. The first time I painted on my model for about 10 mins and it crashed. I tried again and it crashed.
I have only tried with textures from the web, not my own textures.

I also am running vista 64 with 4 gigs ram and an ati fireGL 3400. opteron 270x2

I will try with an i7 920 and 12gigs ddr3 on an ati firepro 3750. also with vista 64

I was hoping to use spotlight on a current project it would be nice if it runs on the other computer

Please keep us informed of the comparison.

well I tried it on the other computer. I used spotlight for about 15 minutes, left zbrush open while i went to a movie(about 3 hours), continued using spotlight for another 10 mins, and no crash.

im not sure why it crashes on one computer and not the other

I am getting less crashes when I avoid triple clicking on an image. However, the random crashes with Spotlight still occur. I created a ticket for this at Pixo support, but have not heard anything back.

Other than that, this has been a great release.
