space vampire WIP

very nice toon style!!!

Suzana: well, I didn’t lay out the UVs on the base mesh in Maya, I just pressed the Guv tiles button in ZBrush before I assigned the new texture map. Later I exported the hi-rez model as an OBJ and brought it in to Maya to see what the UVs looked like, and it seemed like ZBrush had layed them out. Is it possible that they could become changed somehow in ZBrush?

This sometimes happens to me also.
The way how I prevent it is by saving it more often out (immediatly after creating GUVs).
Somehow it stabilizes the image - texture.
I assume it’s a memory issue, rather than distorted UVs.
The way how to identify the problem is to save a copy as a OBJ when the UV/textures seem to look OK, and than save a second copy as OBJ after UVs seem to be messed up.
Import both into Maya, and compare the UV.
Once you identified the problem, you can tackle the problem.
If it is just a memory issue, save out soon after assign. GUVs, and load tool again (save more often).
If it is messed UV, and if there is no go around in Zbrush, make a UV layout in Maya, the most often suggested way of work pipline.
FIRST most optimal Layout of UVs would take me (for a model of such complexity) about 3-5 hour. Adjustments not included.
The good thing is that you can make UV layout based grouping
for most optimal work in Zbrush.

thanks for the reply Suzana. I’ve been starting to face the reality that I’m probably going to have to lay out the UVs in Maya and then bring it into ZBrush for paint. Maybe that would lock things down better. <Sigh> for me, UVs are sort of like balancing my checkbook, something I’d rather not deal with. Well, I guess I better just roll up my sleeves. . .

thanks again for the help.

Anytime !

The newly updated model looks great g.g, excellent work on it and i cannot wait to see it updated even more  it got that look from old 1950-60’s sci-fi movies almost like Buck Rogers

Keep up the great work g.g :+1:

just some flat colors to try to get an idea of what looks good together. I like the suit color a lot, but am not sold on the skin tone yet. . . .

edit: painted on some eye shadow & eyebrows. liking it a little more. . .

terrific! I love the colors…

with guv tiles you need to create the blank texture in the size you plan to do the texture in First!!! then go to texture and hit the guv button. If you don’t it will assume you want a 1024x1024 texture and create it in that size and if you use a 4096x4096 texure it’s not going to come out correctly.

cool model!! looking great so far!

wow, this is turning out amazingly, fantastic and and… wow. Love it!

Beautiful so far. Cant wait to see more…

Excellent! I really like the slightly bored and disgusted expression.

thanks for the GUV tip, I’ll give it a try. Maybe if it works I’ll have more time for balancing my checkbook

Keep up the great work on this coolest looking Space-Vampire ever seen, i absolutely love it and now with the suite too it’s even better!
I sense a top row coming up in the future when this is finished

nice going, although I’m not too sure about the colors, find them a bit ehm garish!? anyway, with proper lighting it may look alot better, the spacesuit design is superb though, has a bit of a 70’s feel to it, excellent!

 yeah, I tend to like saturated colors, but I realize that’s not everyone’s taste. One man’s garish is another’s awesome, I suppose. Plus bad guys are usually more flamboyant. . .

here are a couple examples of what I’m going for :

Very nice work…

hehe love the cheesy japanese sci-fi reference, some old ultraman show? the shoulder pad thingies and the ties really sets the suit designs off  your spacesuit looks a bit more ‘straight’ than the reference though… not a bad thing I might add

Hello Folks,

sort of a final (for now) update on this guy. I never really got the materials looking the way I wanted them, but started feeling like maybe it’s time to move on to other ZBrushery. thanks for all the input everyone!
