space vampire WIP

Here’s a guy I’ve been working on a little bit, thought I would put it up here to see if anyone had crits or suggestions. Right now his tooth is sticking out the bottom of his lip. I’m probably going to take those out later anyway, but I’m kind of ignoring them for now. Anyway, any thoughts or tips would be welcome.

thanks,

Here’s my first thought that comes to mind when i see it…
I love it!
Great design, so cool and relaxed look. Like a Mr Spock kinda guy with a twist :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi again

I hope you don’t mind g.g but i kinda got inspired by your model and i took that inspiration into Silo and modeled this

Space-Man with Silo

G.G.: Awsome design. My tastses alwys skew towards clean sculpting and a
touch of toon, so he fits the bill perfectly…:small_orange_diamond:D My only siggestion would be to divide him one more time. I want to see those wonderful forehead wrinkles without the polys.

Keep going, this one’s a keeper,

Dickie

hi Guys,

not much of an update, but I did one more subdivision and tweaked a few things here and there. I plan on adding some skin texture & real paint sometime soon. It would be cool to have a space suit & helmet for him but I’m not sure I really want to deal with all that. . . .

thanks for the encouragement,

Gray

Great character would love to see it animated when finished…

Looking great!!! and it reminds me alot of the good old villain from Flash Gordon, the evil Ming The Merciless  hehe
Have a look and see… Ming

Gray: He’ coming along fatastically…:+1: He looks so clean now without the polys showing. Wonderful design, there…

Dickie

here’s a little progress report. Not much new Z-stuff right now, just making the base polys for his helmet and suit & a sketch for where I’m headed with it all. we’ll see if I ever get there. . . .

cool character! great work so far.

wow, can’t believe I almost missed this one, superb style on this character! has a real animation feel to it. and just enough details to add depth and yet retain the ‘cleanliness’ of the model. I can really imagine this being the villain in an upcoming pixar film or something. again SUPER stuff! :+1: any chance of a wireframe shot?

thanks for the encouragement. He’s kind of starting to remind me of Chuck Jones’ Grinch. But in space, sort of. . . . I"ll try to get some ZBrush wire shots posted when I get home. It’s not really a complicated model, thankfully. I want to start working on making some kind of bump map for him. I don’t think my squirrel-powered machine can take too many more subdivisions.

thanks again,

Gray

Really like the attitude, like he’s looking condesendingly on us poor humans and being totally bored! Very good modeling!

hey you’re welcome g.g, now that you mention it, yes there is definately seuss-like qualities to this character. ‘the space vampire that stole easter’ perhaps ?

as for the wireframe, don’t sweat it if there’s any hassle, I’m currently preparing a bunch of base meshes for a (hopefully) zbrushathon over at a friends place next week, and so I’m interested in looking at peoples base meshes to get ideas of how they are laid out compared to mine.

Hi Guys,

here's a little update. I suppose at this point it's becoming more of a Maya project than ZBrush, at least modeling-wise.

Zork: sorry I’m not getting the base wire posted like I said I would. Like I mentioned before, it’s really not that complicated. I did have a little difficulty at the corners of the eyes getting the upper lids to work with the lowers like I wanted to. Probably more my own ZBrush inexperience than anything, I’m not sure looking at my model would help you in that area, other than show what not to do.

Actually, I’ve been having kind of a problem painting a texture on the model in ZBrush (again, user error probably). I’ve been using projection master to paint on a simple color map, had it set to GUV tiles if that makes any difference. I was painting along and it was going OK, then one time I dropped the model to rotate the view a little and it seemed like my UVs all went to hell. Suddenly my texture was all over the place as if the UVs had gone totally out of whack. There are probably a few steps I missed somewhere prepping the model for texturing, if anyone has any texturing tips that would be great.

thanks, Gray

Very original work.
To understand more about your problem, how did you lay out the UVs prior to texturing?
