WOW!!! This amazing!
Not sure, but maybe they fixed cavity masking in brush options.
Finally, you fixed the cavity masking…lol, what an update!
Interesting. The beginning part looks like the inverse of shadow box. Instead of dealing with masks on the outside of shadow box, it looks like you can manipulate the model inside … pushing it and pulling it to reveal more of the defined resolution shadow box space.
The sketch and add clay feature looks pretty cool too! If this is version 2 of the zsphere sketch I hope the current way still exists but with the ability to create smoother zsketches without having to smooth them out manually each time, which is very tedious.
The boolean style operations seem to be done with new brushes that are primitives (cylinder, sphere, and champhered cube are seen) and allow you to both add and subtract new geometry. I also see a curves brush that lets one create new geometry from nothing, or from a polymesh, using masks or a defined curve, all as if it were truly clay. The new slice brush will be very nice and seems to work the way a lot of folks expected the clipping brushes to when they were first introduced. Some kind of procedural material and/or texture generator is in there. The mapping on the little castle looks planar (distorts on the sides) so perhaps there are some UV/texturing improvements, also welcome. Also looks like support for HDR maps has been added, not just background plates, with an ability to tweak the resulting IBL to your hearts content. Cavity masking appears to work properly (with some enhancements perhaps?) too. Amazing!
Sadly I see very little that hints they’ve added any of the commonly requested features (ptex, vertex maps, better retopo, 64 bit, etc) but I will keep my figers crossed anyways. The focus as always appears to be on easily creating geometry from scratch, something ZB has always excelled at. For that I have to tip my hat to Pixologic, whose updates never fail to impress, and all for free no less.
That was supposed to say vector maps, as in vector displacement. What can I say? I’m too excited to type I guess.
I am so excited it’s painful. <3 Zbrush.
Attention to the competition…the noise has just been brought:D
Excellent to see the nice updates to Z4! I can’t wait!
I hope 64-bit is coming soon too!?
I REALLY hope so!
so… beautiful
This is EPIC! Thank you, Pixologic!
What’s the music in the video?
I hope it will be included in Z4R2!!!
The boolean and slice operations look pretty epic so far. That alone is gonna help things a ton. I’m definately looking forward to seeing this stuff at Siggraph.
I’ll harp “quietly this time” once again that Z is dying for the continually asked for enhancements: 64bit, vector disp, ptex, Proper paint layers, UI facelift, folders, etc.
Admittedly its a pain to go to other programs for retop, but it seems that every program (except Z) does at least a passable job at retopology: 3d Coat, Topogun, XSI, 3ds Max. I don’t know blender, but my buddy’s shown me that even that handles retop not bad. I’m so used to using other apps for retop that I don’t care at this point.
Don’t wanna complain too much because this looks like a nice update so far, but we have to keep harping on this stuff or Pixologic will think we don’t care.
Is cavity masking currently broken?
I always had trouble enabling auto cavity masking under brush menu. I thought that’s just me.
However, the cavity mask button under the tool/mask sub menu works fine for me…
There is some really amazing stuff here that will make product development pipelines lightning fast. Can’t wait to get my hands on this!!
This looks epic!
Do my eyes lie, or am i looking at Sculptris tech inside Zbrush!? I guess we all knew it was coming, but still… HELL YEAH!!
Sculptris Tech + Booleans + (the new curve stroke thing) = awesomeness in the raw.
I don’t want to jump the gun though, so i’ll leave my fingers crossed for now
PS. These features are awesome looking, truly, however i really hope we can get a correct trackball camera in R2.
Is it going to finally get a 64 bit version?
Looks really interesting, I find myself hating subdivision surfaces lately so everything that allows me to start model in Zbrush is really welcome.
I can’t express enough excitement!!
looks amazing, lets hope we dont have to hit a series 20 buttons to make any 1 of those things happen
pretty cool, but the zbrush interface still stinks(too confusing and complicated),
oh… and its too expensive.
(would be nice if they had a stripped down slim version, with just the essentials lots of the fluff removed for less $ and have the extras as a pack that you could buy and install,
So people could buy it in sections/parts…
base program… then later “plugins/extras” whatever… as they need them)
i’m gonna keep harping on the interface until they give an alternate interface option. its atrocious IMHO.
