whilst im busy, might post this aswell, did this for my graduation project (spacesuit).

I did a Little breakdown of my hard surface workflow for a spacesuit I created, this might be helpful to some people (especially with all the new tools for hard surface, it might be handy for starters to differentiate between tools in terms of applicability.
I found that some tools work better than other in different cases.

Anyway, I basicly messed around with all the new tools in this project, in order for me to get a better understanding of them (aswell as to stay on my never ending quest of NOT getting out of zbrush). I found out lots of new ways to crash Zbrush aswell in the process, which is handy in the future. The worflow is very fluid.

I made simple basemeshes for shapes that I liked based on a simple dynamesh torso/jacket I made, using topology brushes and extract.
I turned all the bases into seperate subtools and dynameshed them and sculpted the resulting geo. Used insert mesh to add small detailed

  • green: the dynamesh basemesh I used
  • yellow: topoBrush
  • blue: extract
  • red: insert meshes

step 2:
repeat process and design as you go (I went through massive amounts of versions)

Lastly a bit more detailed breakdown of bits and pieces

Take from it what you like, enjoy

Nice stuff like the hard surface stuff. Did you do the jordu class if so how was it?

Fantastic!!

Thank you

Claudio

nice breakdown! it is really helpful! keep up the great works! cant wait to see more!

good job
thanks for sharing
and the tutorial:+1:

thank you very much for the nice tip!

Damn like your new sculpts man. Especially the designs of them, I assume they’re your own designs right? You told me about your workflow for the spacesuit already, but didn’t tested it yet. Think I will be on my new character, since I’m going for my own design now as well. But yes, looking great man! Keep it coming. Still curious about your final graduation results though, how did the alien/organic project end up?

@ nj0r0g3: Nope, I didn’t do the Jordu class, just saw the little sneak peak on Ryan Kingslien Youtube channel (cheap huh:P) I wanted to try the insert-sphere-pellet modeling technique, which is a very very nice technique for building form in fragments, aswel as creating very nice and realistic anatomy.

@ Claudio: thx

@ zborn: thx, glad it was helpfull

@ PFC666: thx, no probs

@ xsyx: no problem dude

@ TheZaxer: thx thx, they are my own design (excluding the soldier type char, this was based on a brink concept (fortress)) More coming soon

Here is today little test project, trying out “pellet”-modeling for a more clay-like workflow, so far it works great, I find it gives you a bit more control over volumes as you create your base setup.

quick update, some “inZ” shots of a kitbashing attempt

and final full size render

It’s looking pretty damn sweet! Personally I’m not too sure about the forearms, they look a bit too exposed compared to the rest of the body, which generally has angular shapes covering the hydraulics. But still, it’s an awesome design, lots of gesture.

Awesome indeed. Really have to look into this soon as well.

quick 2 hour sketch to start the day
