Hi, everyone, I bought Zbrush 4 in November, and then spent most of my free time reading through the online document only to feel completely confused. Then I decided to follow Steve Warner’s great tank tutorial to try to learn the software.
I finally made this tank of my own about two months ago:

Thank you.
Oh, and please pardon me for my poor english.
Great work, especially for someone who was originally confused!
Difficult to critique the figure without a front view, but it looks pretty good.
Great job at being persistent with wanting to learn this. Keep working on that anatomy, you have a great start but still have a lot of stuff out of place.
Oh and your english seems just fine.
Great stuff and details on the tank!!!
Great job on the tank! It turned out really well. I’m happy that the tutorial helped you out.
The anatomy still needs a bit of work. The body proportions seem a bit off. And there are areas where the bone structure and muscles still need work. The hands look fantastic though, and the character is coming along nicely.
Keep up the great work!
@EricShawn: I think I fixed the front view. Sorry, it’s the first time I post in the forum. And thank you for spending time replying.
@Arthaven: Thank you.
@d100763: Thank you.
@Steve Warner: Thank you, sir, for the reply, and the tutorial! It really helped A LOT!
Just spent the whole saturday nudging vertices around trying to find the right propotion for the figure.
This is so frastrating. I’d say it’s way more frastrating then reading the Zbrush online ducumentation and trying to understand it.
It’s really hard for me to spot my own mistakes, so any critics & comments are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
I think his butt is a little low.i also think his traps may be too huge, but that’s just me.
This stuff can be frustrating especially when you have something good and you put a lot of time in and end up making it look worse. So there’s advice for just keeping multiple versions and working in a non-destructive manner as much as possible (ie: experiment in layers or morph targets as well as separate files). As far as anatomy goes it’s more important to learn it by reading the information and rules, drawing it and then sculpting it. The more rules you learn the easier it is to break the human figure down and make it looks great. THIS TAKES TIME. You already have a great start and you’re not going to become an expert by doing three models. Keep chipping away at things, setting goals and following through with those goals.
Study reference, study the books that you have, find online courses (free or paid) and in the end do everything all over again. Because there will be stuff you weren’t able to absorb the first time that you will the next time and the following time, etc. You nailed Steve’s tank so you seem to have a good grasp of that process with the hard surface, that may be an area that you want to pursue stronger than the organic. That being said, your organic looks decent, just keep working. Again, this takes time.
Sorry for the really late reply. Been very busy for the past two weeks.
@Tyrone70: I changed his butt and traps a little bit. Hope it looks better now. Thanks for the comment.
@Arthaven: Thanks for the suggestion and encouragement. Sorry for replying so late. After I saw your suggestion, I decided to just finish my figure and make improvement by doing more figures in the future instead of spending all my time trying to tweak it until I feel its perfect and end up unable to finish even one.

please can you provide the link to the tank tutorial
@Sparky3d: It should be in a PDF file under the Pixologic/Zbrush4.0/Documentation folder.
If not, the original post is here:

In your ZBrush 4\Documentation folder there is a Tutorials PDF. The tank is in there.
A model I am currently working on. It’s still a WIP.
I am still a Zbrush noob, so any C&C are greatly appreciated.
It’s Geralt of Rivia.
The Witcher 2 is such a great game, so inspiring!

I was planning to take Ryan Kingslien’s Anatomy 2.0 class, but couldn’t come up with enough money in time. So instead, I bought his book, Zbrush Studio Projects: Realistic Game Characters. The book solved a lot of the problems I ran into while trying to model Geralt, my first game character figure.
I highly recommend this awesome book to anyone who’s trying to make their first figure.
