Started to play with my 3D DIY printer

Looks Great
 what printer are you using?

Ziggy

Thanks Ziggy. I am using a B9Creator. It is a printer that uses a DLP projector to cure a photopolymer resin and construct, layer by layer, a 3D object. It can achieve a resolution of up to 50 microns (equivalent to 508dpi). At present the resin seems to be optimized for 75 microns and there is some slight banding on the prints. Hopefully, it should be resolved with new resins and the latest hardware update.

Still looking to establish the form. The surface of the muscles is very wobbly. I have yet to convert them to hard surfaces.

Awesome, just awesome anatomical studies IMO! :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

these really are top notch pieces, thank you for sharing :+1:

seanGH : nice new work to follow!

Would you mind giving your opinion/feedback about the B9Creator after using it for several months? (I own a Form1)

Thanks asecbrush, scottleroc and Totyo.

Concerning my B9Creator, I upgraded it to version 1.1 in order to reduce banding and there is now a new official resin, the B9R-1-Cherry, tuned for higher resolution prints. The quality of the prints is top-notch but the build volume is small. That is why jewelers constitute the majority of the B9Creator community. For 1/6th scale figure sculpting, it means an additional step to divide the models into small enough parts.

For me, however, the biggest problem, which is probably shared with the Form1, is the slow print speed. Typical parts of a 1/6th scale figure are much larger than jewelry and high resolution prints can take a lot of time (10 hours and more). Combined with the noise (not big but noticeable) you practically need a dedicated space to print, away from living quarters. The B9Creator is not very condo friendly

That is why, apart from some further tests, I did not play much with my machine. There is, however, a new third party resin which is much faster and would reduce print time to a couple of hours. I will try it once all the kinks have been worked out.

Anyone test the Project 1200 yet?

Thank you AgoseanGH for your feedback.

Form1 isn’t the fastest ever printer, but I can print 25 microns figure of 165mm height which is important for me. And I don’t care if it takes 30 or 50 hours if I have the quality at the end.
But most of the time, the 50 micron “middle quality” setting is far enough which reduce by 4 the printing time. The laser is still a 8 micron width one, then it only affect the thickness of each layer.

For the red cherry, I saw that and a Form 1 user had wonderful print quality by mixing 50% of Form1 Grey resin with 50% of Red Cherry from the B9. I ordered 1L to test on my side too.

What is this new resin which speed the printing time? I guess it have a reduce cured time?

For the Projet 1200 it looks interesting, but the building size is really small and I’m afraid of the material cost

Your work is really fantastic and has come along nicely.

Sigmund Hentze, I concur with Totyo concerning the Project 1200.

Totyo, the new resin I want to try is from MakerJuice and has indeed a very fast cure time.

Thanks Cloudrid3r.

Thanks seanGH!

Totyo I have been looking at the Form1 sometime back, but they stated that they were only into the USA and Canadian market, things may have changed since then, will get back to them.

You sound very please with your system?

seanGH: thanks!
Sigmund Hentze: please pm me. I don’t think that seanGH will be pleased if we are hijacking his thread with a side conversation  (or opening a new thread)

Sorry seanGH

Apology accepted Sigmund Hentze.

Thank you Totyo for pointing that out

Like that study a lot, great work! :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Thanks Santis.
