Lovely hard surfaces!
The title of your thread is very true – working w/ZBrush is an adventure!
I am glad you are enjoying your class.
@Jan19, Thank you Jan, It sure is an adventure, that’s what I was thinking when I first created this thread some time ago, I had no idea where I would end up, each and every sculpt is such a new learning experience and I really enjoy the whole journey as it comes! ^^
The class is brilliant highly recommend it Speaking of which, here is the same Mech after some more tweaking, adjusting and updating.
Enjoy!
A little more work on Gundam Unicorn RX-0 for Paul Gabourys Zbrush class! rendered in keyshot and put through photoshop.
Playing with some pose ideas for my Pin-up girl riding the RX-0 Gundam Unicorn. Just using the basic mannequin to get some ideas. I think straddling the horn makes most sense. would love to hear your thoughts.
My favorite pose is Pose C, 3rd one to the right, but its all up to you.
Its more of a elegant “exotic sports car” pose. Whenever I see pin-ups where the girl straddles something, it always conjures phallic imagery; like the worship of phallic objects, which is fine if that is what you are going for.
Like for example, a pin-up of a girl riding a A-Bomb or missile: It communicates, “Check out this large phallic object. This beautiful woman loves these kind of object!”, and / or, “this phallic object contains alot of power and beautiful women love it”.
The pose that I liked says something similar in a different way, like something on the lines of:
“This phallic object is powerful yet it eludes the viewer”, and / or “the viewer desires this exclusive object that just seems out of reach to the common person”.
I know there is alot of reference to phallic “this and that” but in all honestly, when you break down alot of European and classic American pinups, sport car designs, truck designs and so on… they communicate directly the unconscious desires of men. A good pin-up has this kind of clear yet unconscious communication for the added spice, that complements the composition.
There is also a funny one that is re-occuring that you could consider: The girl on the phone with vested intrest. Like she could be in the “pilot chair” in a relaxed body pose, engaged in a conversation talking on the “walkie talkie”. The phone ones are funny in that they flatter the viewer by saying, “This beautiful women is talking to someone of interest, maybe its you”
@Takai, Thank you so much for the great breakdown and taking the time to go into such detail! An interesting read You have made me think about it from a different perspective. I also felt pretty cringey with the straddle poses, as you say the phallic imagery. “not my thing” I think I will continue with the idea of Pose C where there still an element of Allure but I will steer away from anything too sexualized.
I hadn’t even thought to look into all the symbolism of pinups and the representation of each pose, but it makes a lot of sense, and I will look into it further to really push what I’m aiming for. I got a bit slack and just thought, Yeah go for the basic “sexy” pinup girl look.
I’ll keep playing around and exploring new ideas, thanks again for the input
Still another week or two left in class, so many improvements to be made no doubt! ^^
suggestions and critiques always welcome!
Another iteration, changed the pose and position a little bit. All Zbrush passes layered in photoshop.
Feels like it’s been such a long time since just throwing away a few hours and getting lost in a Zbrush speedsculpt. So here’s me making it up and creating something just for the sake of it! I had a photo of a rock with an interesting sillouette, after a little research on rocks I discovered an Aboriginal creature called a Nargun, which is a powerful half rock half human warrior woman. Here is my re-creation of that concept, based on the shapes of the rock.
Oops I got M and N mixed up and did them the wrong way around ^^.
well Here’s today’s study! a Mermaid from the sea! Didn’t get around to painting her yet, she’s still very wippy.
Decided to take the mermaid a bit further and colored her in, then ran the passes through photoshop. what use to take me a week now I can do in under a day
what a beautiful mermaid! striking blue color works very well here
@Kokoro, Thank you Sir ^^ Glad you like her. I chose her color pallet based on the Aurora Borealis which is strikingly similar to a lot of reef fish and corals!
Here’s an overview shot of how I set the scene up.
