Samburu Warrior Head (Animation Test )

When I clicked on this link in the gallery I nearly choked on a skittle. Holy nightmare that’s simply amazing. Second only to Davy Jones of 3D characters I’ve ever seen. Anyway, can tell us anything on how you did the bump in a little more detail. You mentioned three separate bump maps (all created in Zbrush right?), combined using an alpha map to control their placement. Then lit with hdri and a dirctional and some scattered fill lights. It sounds so simple till you try it! hahaha

Wow that was amazing, could you also talk a little bit about how you set up the bones in the face for deformation, it looks really cool.

Amazing Job.

I think my jaw dropped too low and I can’t pick it up anymore. Wow! Nice job Big Bucks. I’m sure you’re tired of all the complements by now.

Just a couple of questions. What was the process you used in creating the bump in zbrush? Was it by hand or just using an alpha map?

Did you model the eyes and teeth separately in XSI and textured it in there? Thanks again. I hope you can answer these questions.

Mr. Positive: Two of my bumps were created in zbrush. The first (for the bigger details) was created from a zbrush displacement map. The second (Fine wrinkles and smaller details) by painting in projection master and using the bump material to see the results. The micro bump was simply a noise that I created in photoshop, but could have been a procedural texture as well.

digital realm: The bones were set up to give a general movement to the skin. I set them up to follow the muscles of the face. The envelope painting took a little time though.

Aseesl8er: I hand painted the bump map with zbrush’s alpha set. I used the decco brush for my wrinkles. Used Projection Master a lot. The eyes and teeth were modeled separately, but were textured in zbrush as well.

Hope this helps:)

Hey Big Bucks,

Nice work. http://www.image-metrics.com/ has posted the full animation with a frame of the green screen reference. Could you discuss image-metrics involvement and how this animation was aided by their “New Technology.” Whatever that means.

This is absolutely amazing. The eyes are some of the most convincing cg eyes I’ve ever seen. It’s hard to believe this is not a real person. :grimacing:

I think its been said already, but amazing work. :+1:
