Royo by Cayo

hey mate, really nice sculpt! i personally don’t know anything about frazetta, but to me i prefer your original grey render before u changed the anatomy and torso area… since u have done that, its kinda given the feel of him pulling upwards with the spear and not stabbing, ( maybe u were going for that ?? ) i dunno, but thats what it feels like to me,

your other image had a stronger feel to it, and maybe a angry facial expression will make the action feel more believable and powerful. Depending on whether u want to stick exactly to the original concept…

but looking sweet man, look forward to the finished model.

Hello people. I got side tracked a whole week! Finally I had to move on to texturing an lighting so here it is so far. Still a WIP. I cannot call it a day because freaking layers won’t render in Maya. Any way, this is what I am presenting for class today. I hope Alex Alvarez likes it

great :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Hi guys I fixed some stuff, rendered and then fixed some more. It takes an hour to render so in the meantime I thought of posting what I have for further critiques. Please shoot away.

Hey guys… no comments, huh? well. I still love you all. Here is my final image. Finally the layers worked and I could composite it

This is very nice, but the guy looks as if he’s strong, but has no definition in his muscles, and he almost has no expression on his face. In a piece like that you would at least expect the person to be yelling while shoving that spear into whatever it is, and then showing his muscles to make it look like he’s actually shoving it in. That’s just what I think though.

Nice :+1:

Good work Cayo!

Good work Cayo, I think you can do even better on the next! :+1:

Sorry for not being able to answer everybody before. I was caught up with work (as in I get paid for it… not z brush)

SolidSnakexxx: Thank you very much. What do you think of the final render?

DAnconia: Frazetta was a master for sure. This exercise was fantastic not because I copied him but because it made me understand a little bit more what is it about his art that made it so powerful.

maxinkuk: I tried everything to get the pose right. What do you think of the final result? Thanks for your input and observations.

AdamShaw.vfx: I will revise the face and other things later on. I need to move on to the next assignment!

tokio: Thanks!

Dark-Anim I will revise it later on. Thanks for commenting

Raymor: you have 4 stars now! What the hell? I need to catch up!

Anyways, for my next piece: you can finde the concept at:

and so far my progress

I like the final render…it looks like hand paint piece. Quite nice…

The new model’s looking promising as well.

Cayo…i only have stars because they let you rate yourself here haha!

I think your new model needs some more definition in the ribcage, to separate her upper body from the abdomen more. There’s not enough angle. Also, I think what’s happening with the left leg is kinda unclear. Nice work my friend!

SolidSnakexxx: What a compliment! I really appreciate it. Good luck with your hero.

Raymor: You got the stars because you are good so don’t sell yourself short ever again or else I will get mad… "Mark Hannah"mad

Thanks for the rib cage thing, I didn’t notice it. The left leg was not sculpted so I am taking it out for this screenshot.

I have no idea how I am going to texture this. I just went to zbrush without UVs and kept going on and on with ztools. Anybody has any advice?

easy peasy japanese task.

just continue modeeling with as many subtools as u like.

then u get lower resolutions of the meshes into an outside app and merge them togheter.

now you go to zbrush and build a new topology over your mesh

this mesh u take to outside program and layout uvs.

then you go back to zbrush and reproject the details onto your new mesh and bake maps and colorize.

may sound confusing now just google and find the tutorials for these steps its not hard to do :sunglasses: :+1:

but… merge all the subtools? What if I want to keep them seperate? Thanks! and nice Javier Bardem you got going on too.

You can always re-separate your subtools once you get back to Maya, since it will break apart discontinuous meshes.

Cayo, I have some thoughts for your sculpt. I think the torso is still a little wierd how it relates to the legs.

I think overall her upper body is too small for the size of the hips. On her left side, the hip rises all the way up to the bottom of her ribcage. There isn’t enough of a break to define where her ribs begin and belly/lower back ends. I think her hips could be angled back more, the 3-part break of her body’s line will look more feminine (remember, women are a big ‘S’). I kind of guessed where her head would be, but as her posture is now, I think she appears to be falling to her left. Cayo!!

Let’s hear it for Ahmed! Welcome back buddy :laughing:small_orange_diamond:laughing:small_orange_diamond:laughing:small_orange_diamond:laughing:
