ready to kick some spider ass
Please let me know if you see any anatomy issue. I may not correct it for this model as I am out of time but it will be good to know.

looks pretty decent, however you generally want to sculpt your characters with the palms facing upwards, even if the fists are clenched
I’ll do that on the next one
posed character.
I have been sculpting for a while and I feel I have lost perspective. Please critique
That’s going to be super funky. Looks great already.
This is great but in the original illustration his arm raises higher compared to the head, his left shoulder goes up and forward at the same time so that the arm can bend fully and end up there above the head. To allow the shoulder to get there the torso stretches on his left side, I think that the key to get the pose is to feel that he’s pushing with the weight of his body from a point that is high on his body so that he has to lift himself up in order to be able to push.
That’s a great pose you chose, and despite this criticism, you almost got it right. Impressive job.
FRAZETTA!!! Thats great i am going to do some studies on him later.
Keep an eye on this for sure!
Dynamic and moving
hey maxinkuk, Thanks for the observations. I changed the pose but finally I had to let it go to keep on with the rest. I have to present this tomorrow. The spears, water and spider legs do not look good very simple but I am planning to compensate with textures in maya.
DANconia, Shapworldwide and AVTPro thank you for your kind comments
Very good work on the change, much more faithful to the pose in the illustration, and better altogether.
Wonderful work and choice of concept.
My only thought would be that if the pole were more obviously bent it would add greatly to the feel of it.
Thanks for sharing.
Great start on the Frazetta, my favorite artist. You’re laying it out nicely, it looks like it will be a great 3D piece.
Ok guys. I am done with modeling. Tomorrow morning this is what I am presenting and then… texturing and lighting for a week. Please comment
Auto levels in photoshop…

Wow, this is looking great… Look forward to the final render.
Very good, I think you can get even closer to the original pose without almost any sculpting just by tilting him (his right and then front) using the his right hand as a pivot point.
Hello guys. I do NEED opinions on this moral dilemma. Frazetta compromised anatomy in order to give this image more “punch”. I emulated that and enlongated the torso, the left arm and here are the results. What do you guys think? correct anatomy or distorted?
Some cleaning is needed but I need to run now
I am a frazetta student and what works for 2d doesnt always work for 3d. He really wouldnt compromise his anatomy at all. He would just capture the moment right before or after something major has happened. Ofcourse there is a lot of dramatic freedom within the poses. Long as all the bones are connected and working correctly it should be fine.
Norman Rockwell said, “As long as you get the hands and face right, the viewer will forgive you for the rest.”
Keep up the good work. After these contests ill hit you up on a PM to let you know about my Frazetta attempts which i will be able to do after the Action Hero contest and Dominance War is done. You can look up my sketchpad “DAnconias Sketchpad” i have some Frazetta attempts. Those were my very first models so be gentle lol.
Keep going man. You are doing a great job.
I think that the illustration may have a correct anatomy, only quite difficult to get. There are a few differences that if addressed could square the issue. The elbow of the higher arm (his left) looks like it’s coming much more forward than were you put it, seen from above you could draw an action line going from the arc alongside the left side of his back into his arm until it meets the elbow and then turns back towards the hand. Look were his shoulder his, it’s much more to the right (of the illustration) than where you put it.
Also in the illustration his visible leg is oriented very differently and it looks to me like it’s a very important landmark to get his torso twisting correctly and give you the right relationship between the leg and the arm.
Maybe you could try to draw the pose in 2d first, and eventually explore how it would look from a side view.
