It might look that way but,it was not realy my mane intention.
If i had money for everry time all this stuff is said id be better off,at this point in time i worked on something knew,it still needs more work.I think its also pretty
good but check it out anyway.
One thing that gets to me is sholders wile working on the spheres, but in time i should be able to perfect that.As i lay it out before you i notice something as
well the forearms look short, this i could get to.

wait…so you’re telling us that the shoulders and forearms are the ONLY things you think need work?..
cliff notes version:
- still terrible
- use the base mesh
- try and learn something
- don’t ignore advice
I’m pretty confident that no amount of time in this world will allow you to perfect anything in ZBrush or probably any other 3D app for that matter.
But keep plugging away at it for our enjoyment.
WOW! I cant believe I actually went through all 14 pages … It sucks you in … hilarious.
if he keeps at it lie this he mightbecome th new rob liefeld XD:
Haha peerke88 ^^ Unless Rob Liefeld, Shockblade should never start a career as character modeler, even at the very beginning of 3d art.
This is so epic, 14 pages of hard fail. Still, it shows the overall kindness of this forum, on other places he should have been torched by trolls on the very first image posted.
 I saw the Thumbnail…and I knew it instantly, he is back…
krkrkrkr, displaying his “art”, silvertongued and able as ever:rolleyes:
I have to admit one thing most of you seem to personify your names, but i get ambushed by your words also you aim at my pride.just as you have your way i have mine.you say i would make a bad 3d modeler but most of you seem to lack
the abuility to pull out stuff from your minds. But i like this and i will follow your
model, and answer me this if i did that at 1st how would i trully be building up my
skill.
I went and fixt up on some parts to make it look more fixed, looking at how it looks im happier with how it looks than its previouse display.

okay i’m going to try and make sense of this
so we are our usernames (you mean XxDarkMessiahxX is actually a Dark Messiash?..woah)and we attack your pride. Okay, some people just need to be taken down a peg or 2, especially if they think they are better than they actually are…
The problem with “your way” is you would be hard pressed to find ANYONE who would think your way is a good way, which is why we (and everyone else) do it our way.
We lack the ability to come up with our own ideas? Is that a general we? as in everyone but you? It’s a bit of a generalising remark, and really a bit out of line for you to be criticising anyone in your position…
i don’t even know what that last sentence means, so on to the critique of your new WIP…
it looks 99% exactly the same…the forearms are a bit longer but nothing else has changed…at all…again…
who knows…maybe you are a troll after all?..
How hard can it be, Shockblade, to pick up some of these advices, and just try. Because you’re not even trying. This isnt about talent, but hard work and dedication. If you like something enough, you’ll be good at it. Sadly you’re satisfied at where you are now. What I would like to see from you is a sculpt of a nose, ear, torso, leg or arm. Not the whole body, but parts of it. And a less bulky surface ofcourse. Because I know you can do it, but it seems you’re not willing to.
I’m just “highlighting” this, stuff like that happens to me too:
Whenever I watch movies or tv-series ( real world too ) I “feel” the faces, clothes etc. it happens all the time, like the brain starts “mind sculpting”.
I actually wish I could change my screen name. I haven’t liked it for a while anyway. Does anybody know if it can be changed, or do you have to create a new account here?
As for “lacking the ability to pull stuff out of our minds,” I think we need to have a Shockblade vs. everyone else who has read this thread art contest. A piece of original artwork from us in response to every one of Shockblade’s uploads. We could put it to a vote and see who wins.
Any takers? He’s obviously trolling, so what does it matter?
I have read a few pages of this Thread and Shockblade are you for real? really? or just an attention seeker?
I honestly cannot see any improvement from your first post to your most recent, I used to be a little worried about posting my work here because i thought it wasn’t up to a standard that others post, but I worry no more having found your thread, I have read everybody’s posts trying to critique and help guide you “check Human Reference”
against your work, I just suggest maybe you open your eyes! Everyone has tried to help you on your quest to find perfection in your modeling but sadly you cannot help someone who doesn’t want to help them self.
Damn i’ve wasted to much time here I wont be visiting again:lol:
Cmon Seriously?
I’ve only read the later pages of this thread, but here’s my take.
Shockblade, a lot of people here joke around at your expense and I sort of feel sorry for you. It’s not totally warranted and a bit insensitive. However, it’s pretty undeniable that you’re very bad, but that’s okay. You’ll get better. I can indeed see a marginal improvement between page 1 and page 15. Still, for you to REALLY get better, you have to change your strategy.
Lemme ask you something. When you were a kid, did your parents ever subject you to a long road trip? You could take a plane and get to your destination quickly, but then you’d really be missing the point. It’s not the destination that matters. It’s the journey. Those family excursions are about building memories and strengthening a bond.
Learning CG is a lot like that.
As a newbie, it’s tempting to jump right to that destination. If you’re attracted to character modeling, there’s nobody who can stop you from just doing it. And, the fact is, ZBrush certainly makes it easy for you to try. However, as with that road trip, you’re missing the point. We don’t just start with textured crates or barrels because they’re easy, but because the lessons we take back from them lay a foundation upon which we can grow. A brick by itself is boring, but thousands of them can form a magnificent building.
It’s okay to dream big, but you have to start small. Ultimately, you’ll do yourself more harm than good by continuing along this path. I’m not telling you this because I feel like echoing the crowd here. I’m also not telling this to you because I want to make you feel bad. I’m telling this to you because you have genuine enthusiasm and simply need to redirect and shape it in a more constructive manner.
As I said, from page 1 to page 15 you have grown. You can see it. However, that growth was marginal and certainly not what it could have been had you started from square one. Do you honestly want to get better? Here are my suggestions:
-
Brush up on your anatomy. Pick up some books. Google some images. Practice your drawings. Right now, your anatomy is everywhere. What you have here defies basic anatomy, even when applied to stylized characters. If you can honestly say that these characters look anatomically correct then you need to take a little time off and distance yourself from this, as to become more objective.
-
Don’t start with an entire character. You’re just not ready. There’s no shame in admitting that. Instead, do some anatomical studies. Maybe focus on modeling some hands. Don’t stop until you get it right, and (most) everybody agrees with you. Move onto some faces after that. Then torsos. And so on and so forth. This could take you months or longer. However, in the long haul, you’ll realize that each individual study has made you better as a whole. It’s like the saying about how “slow and steady win the race.” A good artist is patient.
-
Knowing your tools is only part of the job. A good artist is also a good observer. You need to exercise that artist’s eye. Study how one muscle flows to the next. Watch as a subtle muscle twitch can turn a smile into a frown Figure out why a fat person’s mass is distributed differently than an athlete’s. If you can figure out these small things and then apply them you’re off to a good start. This is not easy however. It may be more beneficial for you to take an actual life drawing class or even a still life class. You’d certainly benefit from more structure.
-
Please listen to people’s comments here. They’re not trying to hurt you. They only have your best interests at heart. Granted, some are frustrated and perceive you as a troll who’s only baiting the board, but many of them are keenly interested in you living up to your potential and matching that enthusiasm with equally large results. You can do it, but you have to listen. A good artist is also a good listener. You may not always like the critiques, but they usually come from a good place.
-
There’s no shame in pre-made bases. It’s probably more important to understand the concept of proportions and basic anatomy first, but base meshes can provide you with a solid and proven playground. When misused, especially as a newbie, they can become an addictive crutch. As part of some larger studies, they are valid learning tools. Don’t immediately dismiss them just because you’d rather do it your way.
-
Buy some real clay and mess around with that for a while. You might be saying, “I already did that.” However, and trust me on this, actually getting your hands dirty with a physical model can really open your eyes when you get back to ZBrush. Being able to touch and mold the clay might help you build a stronger connection to the digital equivalent later on. Clay might be messy for you so I also suggest Sculpy or sculpting foam, both of which are clean and apartment friendly. There’s certainly something to be said for traditional sculpting.
-
For now at least, you may want to consider downgrading to Sculptris. This is not meant as an insult. However, ZBrush can be overwhelming and present you with too many options. Sculptris is so bare bones and refined that your target goal is never lost. You’re there to sculpt and that’s it. No getting lost in the tools because they are few. No getting confused by tons of menus because everything is there in front of you. With Sculptris, it’s all about the art. IMO, as a newbie, Sculptris is really where you should be doing your studies. Not ZBrush. When you’re actually better, then you can graduate to the more complicated app. Consider Sculptris as your bike with training wheels. It’s for your own good.
Look. I’m not going to dismiss you as a troll. Maybe you are. Maybe you’re not. Regardless, that’s way too easy for me to do. Frankly, I’ve encountered many artists like you over the years. So, you could very well be on the level. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I suggest you do yourself a favor and be honest with yourself. Scale back your ambitions for now. Get them in line with your actual skills. Don’t jump to the end of the whodunnit just because you’re anxious. You’re only hurting yourself. It’s all about the journey. Don’t forget that. Drag the learning experience out. The rewards will be that much tastier later on.
Best of luck.
Rob
its impossible to resist commenting here.
All I will say is this:
shockblade you have a nice hobby. It is better to have a hobby that makes you happy then having no hobbies and to be depressed.
Keep going, keep ignoring people. What most people here do not realize is that you are content with yourself and that is all that matters. You have stated your not going for perfection, and you think your models are good. If this makes you happy - that is fantastic. Do not listen to anybody, keep posting if that makes you happy. But do not get angry when people talk badly about your work because you are posting in a pro forum.
he’s actually said several times that he is…
