Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R8

@jubala Those are Chisel Brushes.

When it’s active You could popup the toolbar by hitting M.
The top one toolbar could be hidden in Preferences > Interface > IMM Viewer > Auto Show/Hide (there’s an issue this setting does not saved in config)

@artmaker For complete reinstall You have to:

  1. Uninstall ZBrush
  2. Delete Applications/ZBrushOSX 4R8
  3. Delete Users/Shared/ZBrushData
No other places I'm aware of. Use only full installer of 4r8.

@Spyndel
Ok. Thanks !

S-ed i’m wondering if you can change the position of the alpha like drust did in the zbrushr8 demonstrtaion with the transform 3d button in the alpha section which i don’t see

@jubala Oh. I see. Maybe they just removed it. You could do To Mesh and then From Mesh, it would make same window to appear.

@S-ed

:+1: Thanks, that woud have been exactly my question as I just installalled R7 on my new Laptop recently and didn’t do any customization.
I gonna deactivate and deinstall it first and go for a fresh installation.

But I am on windows 10. Anything else to delete???

@Knacki On windows that will be:

  1. ZBrush 4R8 install folder (generally in Program Files)
  2. C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\ZBrushData
  3. C:\Users\Public\Pixologic

@S-ed thanks

@Knacki:
Deactivating 4R7 just makes it so you cant use 4R7 anymore, dont deactivate it, doing so has no impact on 4R8’s installation (Im 99.9% positive on this)*.
I did deactivate it and I have been kicking myself for the last three days while I couldn’t get anything done.
4R8 doesn’t even install in the same place , it goes in Program Files, not Program Files(x86) I have no idea why they tell you to deactivate it.
I have been drawing in 4R6 instead as I cant get it to reactivate.
I mostly have the problems with 4R8 ironed out now, but it took 3 whole days and Im still not trusting it with my files.
Also, if you have ANYTHING important in QuickSave, grab it now before you do the upgrade or you will lose it all.

*Aurick, if I am wrong about it having no impact I would like specifics on what happens. I have been kicking myself for doing that and since every version so far has left me wanting a feature from the old version I should know better.

The instruction to deactivate was because there are a number of situations in which not deactivating can create problems. On the other hand, there are no situations in which deactivating will cause issues – other than not being able to use 4R7 anymore.

4R7 and 4R8 are unaware of each other. You CAN run both. However, it is very important that if you never deactivate your older version(s) after activating the newer one. So go ahead and reactivate 4R7 if you want but never deactivate it, even when you are ready to put it permanently to bed. The only version that you should deactivate in the future – such as if you’re going to move between computers or reinstall your OS – is 4R8.

I have a problem with r8…

When i try to make new text, i use the “new text” button… a popup opens and says…“Enter your text”…
and then i cant write anything. Not matter what i write, its not showing up in the box.
Coping and pasting a text is also not working.

i only can exit the “Enter your text” mode if i press ESC…

Any idea?

Thanks you guys!

Because of your help I mostly have all of the stupid problems I was having ironed out (mostly) and can now get back to my regularly scheduled dementia.
GRIN!

Cheers!
Mealea

@Tukor:
I cant find that feature at all, they talk about using it in the docs, but dont tell you where it is.
so… where is it?

Zplugin menu, “Text 3D and vector shapes” :roll_eyes:

Still not working for me :cry:

It works for me. Does this problem persist across program restarts and hardware reboots?

If on windows, have you tried running the Zbrush .exe as an administrator?

If yes to both, it sounds like another borked install. Only use the full standalone zbrush installer, never the auto updater plugin. Run the installer as an administrator. Disable any running antivirus during install. You might try deactivating/uninstall/reinstall/reactivate if any of the previous was not done.

@tukor Are You on Windows, using IME by any chance?

Edit: Im on Windows… dont know wehat IME is :smiley:

Ok, thanks but i found the fix for this and whats happening. They should fix this.

I had my buttons size = 42 (Preferences-Interface-UI-Button Size)

When i changed it to like 46, now its working and i can write and all.

New test: at 43 it is not working :-1:
New test: at 44 it is not working :-1:
New test: at 45 it is not working :-1:

New test: at 46 it is working :+1:(Each time you change that you must close the program)

Im on a 2560x1440 monitor, if it helps.

@Tukor, worked for me too, I dont know what could be wrong with it.

Im finding that a lot of things have the wrong stroke type, and it looks like this is part of the getting stuck in 2.5D thing.
I just discovered that the Select Rect brush was also set to Dots, which renders it useless.

@tukor Went down to 38 (lowest possible). Working fine. But I’m on 1920x1200.

Hi guys. I am in the middle of a commercial project. If I clean install 4R8 can I go back to 4R7 is something goes berserk?
Thank you!

Yes you can. Just don’t deactivate 4r7 if it’s not necessary.
Personally I just ran he 4r8 installer with antivirus OFF and without deactivating 4r7.
