Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R8

Thank you Spyndel. That must have been the first time I’d tried that. Must have been a coincidence that it was right before I installed the update. It’s still weird that it will fill the spots with any brushes I choose from folders, not just the ones I’d originally picked. Kind of convenient though.

MealeaYing,
You’re on P1. For P2 it has changed to a double-click.

@Marcus
Holy handgrenade!
I didn’t know there WAS a p2.
Im not doing this one, I just FINALLY got p1 set up.
Oh hell who am I kidding?

@MeaLeaYing

You’ll like p2. It fixes far more than it changes on balance, and my favorite part is that the old axis lock for straight strokes is back when lazy mouse isn’t active.

@Spyndel
Yep, it a bit smoother, but I have to say I fail to see the point of changes like that. It’s a waste of time and coding that could be spent fixing things that are actually broken.
Sculptris springs to mind. As it stand now its a bought and paid for act of sabotage.

Get up on the wrong side today? Not sure what specifically you’re referring to here. Doesn’t seem to apply to my statement immediately prior to your post. Also, you should probably take a look at the patch notes to see how many broken things they did fix.

Obviously the point is to continue to improve the usability of the program. Some changes are invariably duds, but on balance changes like these have resulted in a better program over time. The misfires sort themselves out–for instance Pixologic listening to user feedback and restoring access to the legacy axis lock.

Aw, that’s an adorable dead horse you’ve got there. It must be nearly 7 years old now. That’s a million in people years.

It was a recruitment. That’s what happens when you excel–people want you to work for them. Nobody held a gun to the guy’s head and forced him to sell. Ultimately it was his decision. Get over it.

“Get up on the wrong side today?”
As a matter of fact yes, that is an excellent way of putting it.
Cranky as hell for a few reasons, but in this case because its getting harder and harder, and much less exciting to upgrade ZBrush.

This statement is baffling, bordering on irrational. As with any Zbrush patch or release, there is far more good that outweighs things that might be problematic. R8 brought a lot of exciting new features, and the patches are just fine tuning. If you don’t want to upgrade, don’t–it’s not like you’re paying for it.

Bleh. Your attitude is toxic. I do my best to help people out around here, but I have no stomach for irrationally poor attitudes. Looks like I need another break from ZBC. I’ll check back in when everyone is back on their various medications.

Im sorry Spyndel, seriously, I totally agree with you. I would just like it to not be so difficult to get things working after updates.
You do a magnificent job of helping here, so dont take my sense of grumpiness and the weird humor it generates as anything other than humor. When I say that they should work on Sculptris instead of changing shift click to double click its a bit of a joke.
I know Sculptris is toast. But I miss it.
I have a very weird sense of humor that doesn’t translate to text well.
The grumpiness is due two three things, This update happening at the exact same time I lost the fight to prevent a windows update (the creators addition) that killed a lot of my hardware, and some of it permanently (specifically my nvidia gpu), then, it took me about a month to get ZBrush stable while trying to actually do things with it. At the end of all that I had my appendix out and got as many complications as can possibly happen, all of them obnoxious. This is in no way Pixos fault, its just making everything I say come out bitchy even though half of it is joking or tongue in cheek if that’s the correct term.

Is there any way to have Dynamic size turned off by default. It really bugs me that I have to keep turning it off for every brush including smooth, mask, select etc.
Don’t get me wrong, Dynamic size definitely has it’s uses but I’d rather it wasn’t on by default and it really sucks now that I have to turn it off on almost every single brush individually.

@LeoAMD

Marcus wrote a script that will help with that.

Awesome. Thanks for this :+1:

I’ve had a system crash and had to reinstall everything. I can reinstall zbrush (waiting for the old systems copy to be deactivated)…but I cannot find an installer for the Keyshot to Zbush (the keyshot application itself)…can you point me to it?
Its not just the plugin is it because I remember that you had to download an installer for the limited version of Keyshot…

Thank you

The toggle for dynamic mode in brush draw size is indeed now double click. It was formerly Shift-click.

This seems like a wash to me ( an extra click vs. having to hold down a modifier key). Although the point could be made that if there’s no especially compelling benefit to changing it, it would be better left alone to avoid annoying users that are used to it the other way.

I have no opinion on it either way, although there are other aspects of Dynamic mode in r8p2 that frustrate me.

Agree, this is annoying as hell. Spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to disable dynamic brush size! WTF?
Moreover, double click doesnt even work for me, even with a mouse. First click just hides the popover. So im stuck with a dynamic brush mode.
Even if it worked, trying to double click with a wacom is a disaster.

Another thing in P2 thats broken (for me at least) is that ClayTubesConstant doesnt work with continious stroke, making it a redundant brush (behaviour is the same as regular ClayTubes). Sorry to say, but the continious stroke caused so many bugs already, it feels like some badly thought feature. Id like it to work with ANY brush and have a dedicated activation button, not the current mess with morph target and different brushes.

@Indik:
Use this script Marcus made:
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?208308-Useful-small-ZScripts-and-Macros-for-ZBrush-4R8
It fixes the Dynamic brush problem by turning it off or on for all brushes.

@MealeaYing
Thanks!

I upgraded to Zbrush 4R8 P2. Anyone know how I reconnect Keyshot 5.1 for Zbrush? Currently when attempting to render from zbrush to keyshot I get “Unable to Connect to External Renderer.” I cant find anything on how to reconnect.

Hello everyone.
When using an image to paint with the spotlight method I encounter a problem: I can not deactivate the image and paint at the same time. As soon as I deactivate the image, I can no longer paint on the mesh.

In ZBRUSH 4R8 P2.

Thanks.

It works for me. The “Spotlight Radius” on the widget is set to 0 by default. Increase the Spotlight Radius then press Z key. It sounds like you might be pressing Shift+Z thinking that deactivates the image, but that turns Spotlight off.

Thank you all at Pixologic for fixing the STL export with world origin in P2!
