Hello all,

Thanks for looking and hopefully helping me out here.

I can use the basics of the program, but not sure how this error is going to effect things in the future.

I did not use the auto update. I downloaded the installer and used that.

windows 7 64bit.

Issue 1

I get this set of pop ups before zbrush starts.

The program can’t start because MSVCR120.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. I reinstalled it. Didn’t help.

Issue 2

I am missing some smooth brushes. They are in the system folder, but when I open zbrush they cant be found in the brush folder. Also i loaded my custom UI and they are missing from that as well.

If you used the full installer then you probably just have a bad installation. Do the following:
  1. Uninstall ZBrush and delete its folder.
  2. Disable your antivirus software.
  3. Download a new copy of the installer from https://pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/instructions/
  4. Install and activate.
  5. Enable your antivirus software again.

Regarding the brushes, I believe that some have been moved from startup to make room for other brushes that are new for the newest features. You should be able to find them via the Brush tab in LightBox.
If they’re brushes that you want to have all the time (which it sounds like you do, since they’re in your custom UI) you can move them from the ZBrushes directory to your ZStartup directory. Just remember not to have more than 25 of any given startup item type.

This isn’t really a big deal, as 4r8 is working great for me, overall (as far as I can tell, so far) but it appears that when I move/pan a hi-res model in 4r8 it shows slight lagging (or “trailing”) but it would pan smoothly in 4r7.
Just curious why that might be? Might there be some settings different in my 4r8 install of which I’m unaware?
Btw, I still have 4r7 installed and just installed 4r8 as well. Could having them both installed cause some slight funky issue like that? It doesn’t affect my ability to sculpt and do what I need to do. It just made me wonder. :slight_smile:

If I’m understanding you correctly, I can verify that this behavior is happening R8, but I’m not sure if it was ever any different in previous versions as I no longer have access to them for comparison.

The problem as you describe it is essentially that you can’t numerically enter a precise brush value for the smooth or masking brushes. I can honestly say I’ve never tried, because the only slider values you would need to adjust(rgb ntensity/z intensity) only range from 1 to 100 (-100 to 100 for focal shift), and it’s not difficult to drag those to a precise number.

The size slider ranges up to one thousand and would be much more difficult to drag to a precise number, but that value is shared among all the brushes (you can’t enter a different size for the masking brush, etc), so there’s nothing preventing you from entering a precise value in that case.

So it may be a bug, but I’d hesitate to describe it as “major”.

I developing a toolset for texture artists, then with my toolset, i have different type of workflow, well i got several roll based brushes including standard, making, project. they act to make all stroke to tile the alpha seamlessly.
now when it come to setup a masking brush, with for example the lazystroke :
i need the Lazy step to be set at 0.03058
not 0.03057 or 0.03059,
but it’s just impossible to type the value there.

Now it happens too when i want round value, with slider that got a step of 0.0001, it impossible to set this value to 5 for example.

With R7 is was possible even if it was confuse to change the value, but now, it’s simply impossible to change these value, not only lazy step, but many other parameter just can’t to be Edited…

I hadn’t considered the necessity of things like Lazy stroke controls for smoothing. In that case, I amend my statement, and can see how this is a serious problem for you.

to be exact i cite smooth and mask brushes, but the real one that is most important for me, is the masking brush, not the smoothing brush ^^

I was curious if your problem was a variation on other people reporting that they couldn’t input data in certain fields at certain interface sizes (button size), but I just ran some tests and couldn’t get it to work at any size.

Correction.

This has happened multiple times. After duplicating a Subtool in the Subtool palette and using the new Gizmo to move it ZBrush gives me an 'Abnormal Termination.

Does this happen to anyone else?

This might seem weird but it sounds sort of like the font is whats causing it, like at one size it fits in the box but not other sizes and so its appearing above or below what you can see.
Does that make any sense?
All of my palettes and menus were bunched up at the initial font size, I had to go all the way to its lowest, I think 38 to get everything everything looks normal.
That sort of thing could happen inside of a text box right?

“Was” Having problems with GO-Z,. with Modo 401. I ran a force reinstall and it’s still not working. Does anyone know why?

FIXED.
Actually fixed it. I had to reset ® the GoZ application.

Hey so found a bug,

FBX export, if not everything is on the same subdivision levels, it just freezes. Its odd, because its actually works better otherwise than the r7 export, which just assumed you wanted to export it all at high >…<. Insta crash, setting it all the same thing, exports just fine.

Did you use backward slash instead of forward slash and did you put them in the right place? It has to be forward slash (/)

You have an option on Home Page. Just click gear icon and select “show if news updated” (see image) Pixologic not updating news right now but that might change later.

or … you can make a backup of DefaultZScript.txt file and rename it to something like “backup_DefaultZScript.txt” then, in the original, just delete the line of code so all that’s left is…

We have just updated to 4R8 and the 3d print exporter does not work when trying to accessing Proform directly with the “send to Proform button”.

Sorry, ZBrush was not able to run PreForm.
PreForm application was not found on your computer

It seems unable to find the link it had in 4R7. It still works in 4r7 but not in 4R8

This problem affects only Mac OS. We are working on that.

Some genius removed not only regular quote, but also the even better multi-quote feature (this allows you to select multiple posts to respond to all at once).
Both were wonderful features and they not only refuse to turn them back on, they won’t talk about why they did it. Things like that caused a large decline in users here as its now a pain in the neck to help people with individual questions.

Ok, I use quick save A LOT. Usually as I am editing files for 3D printing using Dynamesh on very dense models. I am doing a new sculpt, low poly work. When the system quicksaves on its own, it crashes, does the autosave recovery tool. When I click the quicksave button, it crashes 50% of the time. When it does actually save without crashing, it doesn’t actually save the file. It doesn’t show up in the quicksave folder. OR, it does save it, but it saves it in a random slot in the folder. If I select a quicksave file, it opens fine, and then does a quicksave within moments of opening it, and crashes.

I did the recommended deactivate 4R7, install 4R8 method.

Windows 10
AMD 8 core processor
32 gigs of ram

We would advise you to open a ticket at the support center for such issue.

    I’ve been researching this further and msvcr120.dll is a system-level component of Windows and should actually be present in every Windows installation. It’s included for use by developers, basically so that they don’t have to “reinvent the wheel” by rewriting their own versions of frequently needed code. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/missing-msvcr120ddll/28b03b3b-1d15-4e47-ba31-8ace6920b9ba Unfortunately, your computer’s copy appears to be either missing or corrupt.

    The File Checker tool will let you scan your system for this and other problems: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files

    You may be able to fix the issue simply by running the vcredist installers found in your ZBrush 4R8\Troubleshoot Help folder. Likely, some will give you error messages simply because they don’t apply to your computer. That’s fine. At least one of them should install successfully and will hopefully fix the problem.

    If not, the alternative is to either copy that file from another computer running the same version of Windows, putting it in the same location on your computer, or to download from a site like https://www.dllme.com/dll/files/msvcr120_dll.html.
