Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R6 - read first post for P2 Patch instruction

In 'Preferences > Lightbox" turn off ‘Open At Launch’ then save your config (Cmd+Shift+I). If it’s closed, Lightbox will open again when you save config just turn off ‘Open At Launch’ again.

Creating new texture map from polypaint and exporting texture map via multi-map exporter crashes my system. I have tried on two machines. Should I deactivate the license and do a clean install?

Don’t do that immediately. Have you tested creating the map and exporting directly from ZBrush (not using Multi Map Exporter)? Also, does the crash only happen with one model or every model you try? How did you create the UVs? And are you on Windows or Mac OSX?

Thanks for your help Marcus. Yeah, I have tried this with two different models now. I am creating some quick UVs with the UVtile function. I have also attempted to get the UVs out via the texture bar on the right side of the interface by using New from Polypaint.I am using Windows as my OS.

Thanks! Try using the UV Master plugin to create UVs - just go to the lowest subdivision level and press the UV Master>Unwrap button. Let me know if that makes any difference.

Hello, I am having trouble using panel loops with 4r6. When ever I hit the panel loops button the tool I am working on vanishes. If I ctrl+Shift+drag over where the model was parts of it will become visible but I can never get it to fully appear even when I use crtl+shift+click on the empty areas of the document. Shortly after this the entire program crashes. I have exectued the exact same operation in 4r5 (which I still have installed) and it works perfectly.

A follow-up to the transpose problem I was having. Pixologic tech support just said to copy the 4r5 “TransposeMaster.zsc” file from 4r5 to 4r6 and it solved the problem.

I was finally able to get into the office that has the Zbrush licensed computers today. I tried the UV Master plugin. The unwrap function causes both of my systems to crash. I tried with multiple files as well. One large file and one small file. Most of my files are dense laser scan models, if that has anything to do with it (200 mb).

Oh yes, you will always have problems trying to create UVs for meshes that dense. A basic workflow would be:

  1. Use Decimation Master to reduce the polygon count of the model so that stage (2) is not unnecessarily time-consuming.
  2. Use ZRemesher to create a low-polygon version of your model (ideally a few thousand polygons).
  3. Create UVs for the low poly version (using UV Master or other method).
  4. Subdivide the low poly mesh so that it is dense enough to capture the original detail.
  5. Append this model as subtool to original model.
  6. Project the hi res detail from the original model.

Once you’ve done this you will be able to create the maps you need.

I hate to break it to you, but I am still getting the same crash when exporting the maps. I projected the hi res detail onto a low res model of 46,000 polygons. When I try to create the new texture from polypaint I still get the same crash…

The decimation master did not have an effect on my model. The pre-processing would be fine, but the model would never actually decimate. Though this is a separate issue.

How did you create the UVs? If you are happy to let me see the model I’ll see if I can find what’s wrong. I’ll PM you.

As described in the ZBrush 4R6 Tut, recurrent ZRemeshing often brings a better result.
But after ZRemeshing one time, the painted ZRemesher-Guidelines disappear.
Is it possible to store them anywhere bevor remeshing or do I have to paint them again and again?
Sorry for my newbie-question, but 'til now, I nowhere found a way to store the guides.
If there is no way, it would be good to implement this possibility in the next update.

please turn back slice curve brush old funcionality to not make new polygroup inside. I was trying to use work around with auto regroup but i got crash while autogrouping dynameshed subtool

now I had this Problem for a second time and I don’t know exactly, at what circumstances it happens. I have used on my subtool many actions but it seems, it happens after using several combinations of Deformation-Size and the Bridge-Curve Brush:

When I try to hit Duplicate at my subtool to make a second instance, I get a bigger copy of my subtool in an other position. I of course can then manually change the settings of position and size to the identically values of my first subtool, but the amounts of the duplicate version of the subtool differ in size and position before manually adjusting them.
The same happens when cloning the subtool and appending it. This I tried as a workaround but gave the same result.
I haveDynaMesh Master installed under ZPlugin, but I tried some simple experiments with Resizing with Dynamesh-Master and I was not able to reproduce this Problem.

Did anyone else have this Problem sometimes or is known, at what circumstances this happens?

Lots of random crashes in this new version; I’ll get a day a morning of faulty installation messages, then 3 days of working fine, then faulty install again, then fine…
Stupid problem with mirroring in sub-tool master too … somehow mirrored a previous version of the sub-tool (in the tool’s history)… ended up having to duplicate the sub-tool, delete the original and THEN use sub-tool master… groan.

Stupid of me to delete 4R5… just before getting a new commission :frowning:

Now I just tried to turn Light Box off in the Preferences menu and that gave me the faulty installation error… might have to try a reinstall and see if this nonsense stops for once and for all…
