Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R6 - read first post for P2 Patch instruction

The new “DynaMesh Retains PolyGroups” feature from 4R6 made the DynaMesh boole operations a tad more circuitous because you had to get rid of the multiple poly groups (e.g. you had to use “Auto Groups” everytime) before each merge and re(dyna)mesh step.

Otherwise all the concave areas would have get filled automatically.

Maybe a switch to turn on or off this “DynaMesh Retains PolyGroups” feature wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Or does it even exist somewhere and I just didn’t found it yet?

Because with 4R6 P2 I have now the problem that the boole order changed! :confused:

Now A becomes subtracted from B when it actually should be exactly the other way around, if you now what I mean.

I guess this bug was maybe introduced by accident when the developer tried to get rid of the above described behaviour.

And I hope this will be fixed again soon too.

You can use ‘Auto Groups’ in ‘Tool > Polygroups’ to make each section one polygroup if you want the holes filled when you do a ‘Groups Split’ otherwise you will have seperate “end caps” (for lack of a better name) when you do a ‘Groups Split’. This way you can just delete the end caps if you don’t want the holes filled. Hope this makes sense to you.

I had a problem with using transpose master with a dynameshed object as one of the subtools. It turned my whole model into mush and then when I save made a corrupt file.

I have found a new issue. I just updated to P2, and still having problems with Zapplink.When I try to launch the plugin, I get this error message.

I have inspected both the plugins folder/Zappdata folder in both 4R6p2 and my backed up copy in 4R5. I get the same number of files in the folder. Thoughts?

yes, i’ve gotten this on a couple models. i think it had something to do with fibers or the eyelashes I created in maya. i removed the hair and the model worked.

not too sure where to post this, but I am getting an error when ever I try to save a Ztool, my system specs are

Macpro Retina 2.6, 16GB ram, 512HD.

the error reads

“File Write Error
Sorry, the disk space is critically low. Please clear more disk space (by emptying the trash, deleting files, etc.) and then click OK to resume”

weird thing is I have nothing in the trash and over 300GB of drive space free.

Here’s the link to the fix, you have to make sure your file permissions are set correctly. zbrush can’t access the folder where the disk space is that it uses,

Hi Aurick, just to say7th July 2013 - the mac .dmg file for GoZ presently on the server seems corrupted - it will not open

In your ZBrush 4R6 folder there’s a folder called Troubleshoot Help. Within that is a folder called GoZ and within that is a folder called Pixologic. This Pixologic folder is the one that got deleted when you uninstalled the older version.

If you are on Windows, copy the Pixologic folder to C:\Users\Public
If you are on Mac, copy the Pixologic folder to Users/Shared

Next, you’ll need to make sure that all user accounts have full read & write permission for the Pixologic folder and its contents. The way to do it on Windows varies between OS versions. On Mac you select the Pixologic folder and press Cmd+I to Get Info. At the bottom of the info window is a section for sharing and permissions and at the lower right of that is a padlock. Click the lock and enter your admin user name/password. Now set the Everyone user group to Read & Write. Then click the gear icon underneath and choose “Apply to Enclosed Items”. If the Everyone user group is already Read & Write, change it to something else (it doesn’t matter what), apply to enclosed items, change it back to Read & Write, then apply to enclosed items again.

That should restore GoZ functionality. If you still have trouble, you will need to reinstall 4R6.

I had already tried restarting with no luck but the Stand Alone Installation did the trick and I was happy to see that all of my personal settings had transposed into the new version; thank you Pixologic Team!!!

Can you post an screenshot of your ZStartup/ZPlugs folder please? That will help correct this problem.

Also, I noticed that when I hit the “TPoseMesh” button for my model, it cycles through all the subtools and for some reason it switches the model to a star then to the regular combined subtools.

You may see the polymesh star briefly before the combined mesh. That is the way Transpose Master works.

Concering transpose master issue:

I seemed to have gotten everything to work fine. I ended up uninstalling any and all brush version on my computer, installed 4r6, then had to go into the regedit and switch the file association to 4r6,s location. For some reason the location was still registered under 4r5.

Nevermind… It still does it on most of my models.

I think my models base levels were too dense when going to transpose master. So far it works when I lowered it. We’ll see…

Transpose master is still doing what it was before. This is with a complete different model this time…

Anyone run into transpose problems?

I don’t think there is a problem with my file. I opened a different file that I posed with transpose master just fine in 4r5 and it still wouldn’t work in 4r6. I was just testing to see if it would work on anything and the demo soldier in the zbrush tools folder posed fine. Maybe its the location of my files on a portable hard disc (which never gave any problems before). I changed the location of my files to the c:/ drive and it still didn’t work.
