Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 2018

Yes, I haven’t done anything major yet. I am just messing with the dynameshed sphere in Sculptris Pro Mode for about 10 minutes and I have already three crashes. I don’t see any crash pattern, first time I click and dragged outside of my model to rotate, second time I opened up the plugin panel, third time I wanted to enable the Polyframe view.

I am on a Mac Pro BTW.

on a Mac Pro here on high Sierra. clean install on the OS. clean install on Zbrush 4r8 and the same with 2018.
still no screensaver. Zbrush continues to suppress it with either version.
VERY laggy viewport/cursor skipping, stuttering. makes sculpting damn near impossible. also, with both versions.
the last time I had this issue, was on my old computer, with 4r6 I think (when it died, I was using 4r7 and it worked fine). the fix back then was to use the “atMonitor” program.
that program is no longer supported and you can’t even get you hands on it.
I would really appreciate a fix.

I have tried to update (gone through the update process to update my license) I get confirmation on the page, but nothing then happens. Is the download link etc sent to your registered email address? My problem is I no longer have acess to that email address. I have send a support ticket to change it, but I wanted to confirm, that the process is what I think it is. Help anyone.

Can someone please tell me why if Sculptris Pro has no benefit in the pipeline for producing better maps than traditional Sub D surfaces is there the following statement on the features page for Sculptris Pro?

“Of course, if you’re a pipeline artist it would be useless to have this sculpting freedom if there was no way to get the finished model into a form that can be used by your other software. To this end, ZBrush 2018 provides a new way to remesh any model with the purpose of preparing it for use in a more traditional sculpting or animation workflow.”

I just wondered If I was missing something here in that this feature is of more use beyond the purpose of conception design, 3d printing, cad, and scan data,? It has already been confirmed that Sculptris pro changes point order so to that end has no purpose in the pipeline to baking better texture maps.

There are four new Remesh deformers as part of the Gizmo 3D. If you check out that part of the ZBrush 2018 PDF in your Documentation directory, you’ll be able to learn more about them.

I guess it means if you are using it on a model that has already been modelled (so that you could export displacement, texture and normal maps) then it is no use. As you cannot use it on a model with subdivisions. However, i’m Sure you could use it, Ramesh, then export.

Sculptris pro: Are there any plans to let its brush size adaptive behaviour take alpha into consideration? (Or a polygon size multiplier on the alpha?) [Otherwise I guess I can always create special brushes with overrides on the sculptris settings.]

I upgraded my single seat license to 2018 but it says 1 activation. Does that mean I can only use this license on a single computer and cant have a copy on a laptop?

That’s telling you how many activations are currently counting against your serial number.

Single-User licenses still allow the same two concurrent activations that they always have. Volume licenses would allow a number of activations equal to the number of seats purchased. Nothing is different there. They can simply now be any combination of Windows or macOS rather than all on the same platform.

We changed away from the old “Seats” word on that page because too many people were thinking that their Single-User license was able to be used by two people.

I was hoping that according to the quoted information from the site that there was a way to project this onto a targeted models Uvs, but it dont seem the case. This is a very nice feature, and certainly helps in the pipeline for concept design instead of alternative methods and for that Im very appreciative for that in itself.

I received an email saying that my license had been reset, but when I tried to upgrade again I received the same license not found error message as before.
I hope this gets resolved soon.

Be sure to reply to your ticket. It comes down to a database issue. The system is capable of handling up to 100 requests per second. Even now, almost a day after launch it’s still sometimes getting more requests than that. Who’d a thunk it?

I’m using ZBrush for MacOS, and I get consistent crashes when I use any of the Snakehook brushes on a Polymesh star object when Sculptris Pro mode is activated.

It seems that Sculptris Pro mode doesn’t like starting from very low-poly meshes.

Any idea when the trial of 2018 will be released? Also, in the meantime, is the 4R8 version available anywhere as a 45 day trial?

There was never a 4R8 Trial. The 4R7 Trial was taken down just prior to ZBrush 2018’s launch because it’s missing too many key new features. (Live Boolean, anyone?)

The ZBrush 2018 Trial will be released on April 18, I believe.

really glad to get this new ZB powerful Release, but i got the same issue as Jdlord:

Tryed with Administrator rights, Disabled the Firewall. Nothing change even if i can post my Support ticket on website.

Change your Pixologic ID password. Most likely you have an & symbol in your password but it might be a different unusual character that is causing the problem. We’re working on a fix for the & symbol. If it’s a different one to blame, please submit a Support ticket and let us know what your problem password was. We’ll then be able to add that into the fix as well.

Due to the huge demand for ZBrush 2018, the database system is having trouble processing all upgrade requests. Some users are going through the upgrade process and not receiving a ZBrush 2018 serial number. When they then try again, the license is no longer available for upgrade. Unfortunately, if this happens to you the only solution at this time is to submit a Support ticket so that your serial number’s upgrade availability can be reset. Please expect up to one business day for a resolution.

mean one business day from sending ticket ? At FB group (“Official Pixologic ZBrush Group”) one guy write me that he had answer for his ticket (license reset) after few hours, I wrote ticket about one hour after ZB2018 release (for my timezone it was 21:08) and for now I don’t have any answer :frowning: I’d just like to know that should I don’t care about this for today (because guys at Pixologic just need more time) or have hope that this issue will be fixed in my case ?

As of this moment we’re up to tickets submitted around 7pm last night. We’re knocking them down but expect it to be up to 24 hours from when you submit your ticket before you get a response.

Tech support got back to me and had me do the offline authorization. It was really fast and it worked.

I too get this error every time. I right-clicked the installer and ran as administrator, turned off Avast, but not Windows Firewall, nor did I have these turned off during downloading…It is rather strange that it would affect it so badly though - I never have problems like these installing previous versions of Zbrush, or any other software for that matter. Nonetheless, I will try again after work tonight, with all anti/walls turned off etc.

This is usually caused by Windows Defender but it could be other antivirus software as well. Make sure your antivirus software (including Windows Defender) is disabled while downloading, installing and activating. Remember that ZBrush 2018 is brand new. Many antivirus programs are still waiting on their own testing before they stop corrupting the download.

what menu is remember draw size button and dynamic size button under? I have a custom menu and would lke to add those two buttons

@Jdlord - THANK YOU!! it works . Anyone with this issue pls just do the Offline activation. All working now.

@fadedcosmos I put my ticket in yesterday at 12.45pm and heard back at about 11 pm in the evening. You should go to your account and make sure you see your support ticket in there. It will say status: Open. You should have received a confirmation that your support ticket was logged. Hope that helps.
