Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 2018

I wanted to thank Pixo for finally coding in the last accessed folder. Even upon starting a new session of ZB I find that the last folder I was in is what the program remembers. Now to make that little more complicated, be nice if EACH browse area like Textures, Alphas and what not all had this set up separately!

Hi and Hello to all.
I would like to know if anyone has experience any issue by applying MASK BY ALPHAS option in the masking tool bar?
Im trying to apply an alpha and the MASK BY ALPHA button are not able to select.
Any feedback will be very grateful.
Thanks
Martin

@martin6canale: Does your object have UV’s? If not, the Mask by Alpha button will be greyed out.

Thanks for the Lesson, I dint know that, apologizes for my ignorance .
Thanks and regards
Martin

Is it possible to resize the UI font size? I am using a 55in 4k tv and it is very difficult to read the UI text. (Sorry if this is not the correct place to ask this) Thank you.

You can change your UI in two places…

The first one will solve the small text

Preferences/ Interface/ UI

Crank the button size up to probably 65 for starters

Then you can change your sculpting area’s size in…

Documents: In the 5th palette, you can adjust the sliders and they will increase the size. Change it to 8192 x 8192

You can save the document settings in Document/ Save As Startup Doc and you can save the buttons in Preferences/ Config/ Store Config

I updated to Zbrush 2018, and then had to update my wacom tablet driver (which required a restart).
After the restart, when I open Zbrush 2018 from my desktop I immediately receive this error message and then crash to desktop:

Problem encountered with license for ZBrush. Reason:
Cannot decode JSON data(#0)

Contact Pixologic support for assistance.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thank you.

Just do a clean uninstall.

Delete all the folders that are left.

C:\Users\Public\Pixologic

C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData

C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData2018

Then install and upgrade to 2018.1

Then make the changes I shared with you above

I just uninstalled everything, deleted all folders, and then reinstalled, but I still am getting that message immediately.

I was hoping the clean install could help but have to contact support to see what’s causing the licensing error.

You can see if you’ve exceeded the amount of licensing connections here:

https://pixologic.com/my-licenses/login.php

You can contact support and create a ticket here:

https://support.pixologic.com/Tickets/Submit

If you select ā€œURGENTā€ they are usually pretty prompt with helping

I don’t believe that I am exceeding my license limit. I made a ticket ( under ZBrush Support, and marked as critical) yesterday, but no response yet. Do you know if they look at tickets on the weekend?

I’m not sure if they check during the weekend.

I wonder if resetting your system settings defaults on your computer will help.

Well, I’m fresh out of advice.

Sorry, and I hope this is resolved quickly for you

Is it possible to be in full screen mode and have the window stop right above the taskbar? (currently the taskbar overlays in front of ZBrush. I also don’t want to hide the taskbar/have it dynamically appear/hide. Thank you.

Even in Windowed mode the menus on the right hand side are cut off. Is it possible to not have them do that?

Only way, so far, that I’ve found to do that is to use the Maximize button to put the UI into resizable mode and then just drag the corners out but the program doesn’t remember that upon being restarted. Yea it’s been an annoyance for me too all these years! You KIND OF get used to it but not really! LOL

Hi Yourname942,

You can resize the ZBrush window by setting the Document>Width and Document>Height sliders to the size you want and then pressing Document>Resize while holding the ALT key.

Attached is a macro that makes the process easy and you can assign a hotkey to the button if you want. ***You may need to adjust the values in the macro so the Document height and width are set to what you want (open the file in Notepad)***.

Save the file to the ZBrush 2018\ZStartup\Macros\Misc folder and press Macro>Reload All Macros. The button will then appear in the Macro>Macros>Misc sub-palette.

Is it possible to move the location of quicksaves and autosaves folder?

I recently purchased a new Microsoft Surface Go and love it, however, Zbrush does not recognize it. Under Preferences/Tablet the sliders are all dimmed out. I made sure to use Global Settings under the Brushes Pallette. I tried going to Microsoft and seeing if they had updated drivers but all I found was for the Surface Pro. Is this a firmware issue being that the device is new? If so, do you think they will eventually update it to work with Zbrush. If it’s not going to work with Zbrush I may consider returning it. Thanks for any info.

Grab the wintab driver (Wintab_x64_1.0.0.20.zip) from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49498

Microsoft doesn’t publish wintab drivers for their newer devices as most windows systems have moved to the new pen interface and wintab
is becoming harder and harder to support.

You may find that Zbrush doesn’t work very well with the current Microsoft wintab and will loose pressure readings if you open or
save a file with the stylus (use the touch interface or a keyboard instead.) Oddly I don’t see this problems with other wintab based
programs or programs which use the modern stylus interface. Hopefully Microsoft or Pixologic will sort things out with the next update.
As of this writing, it works well enough if you don’t use the stylus in the system file interface and use the touch interface when some widgets are
flaky…the main widget that gives me trouble is the gear icon of the new gizmos.

I’m currently using a Surface Book 2 with Zbrush for my portable sculpting setup (though my main system uses a Cintiq Pro 24.)

How do you work with image planes that do not line up right? This is causing me to make adjustments to match one orthographic view, only to decrease the accuracy from the other orthographic view. (Making my sculpt accurate to one view decreases the accuracy from the other view) How do you get around this? Thank you.

Hello guys,

I noticed a new probleme using GOZ, i’m using 3dsmax and Zbrush, with GOZ to switch from one to the other, i have been using it since day one of GOZ, so it’s been a long time.

I’m using zbrush 2018.1 and 3dsmax 2017 P3.

My problem is that when i use GOZ from 3dsmax to Zbrush, or Zbrush to 3DSMax, it seems to disable the gamma correction inside 3dsmax. It’s a new thing, that i have never experienced before, so i don’t know if it’s because of 3dsmax 2017P3 or Zbrush 2018.1, but i was wondering if anybody noticed it, and if you at pixologic are aware about this.

A nice thing that i noticed, is that GOZ doesn’t switch 3dsmax to scanline anymore, i’m a Vray user, and it’s been years since i have been waiting for this change, so thank you !

Cheers,
