Hi Marcus,
Thanks for the tip on the lighting setup and for the terrific plug-in. Appreciate it!

Hi Aurick,
I have been trying to resurrect the old Skull sculpting tutorials of late for an upcoming class. But I am having difficulty with making the Xplane subtool keep it’s Flat Color while the Polysphere subtool is using the Red Wax Material. I have followed the instructions about selecting M in the Draw menu and then using the Fill Object command in the Color menu, but when I try to assign the Red Wax back to the Polysphere, the Xplane Subtool turns red also. I have tried using the Subtool Master’s Fill command but am still not having any luck. I’m sure that I’m missing something pretty simple here and am hoping that you can shed some light on this for me.
All the best,
Alan
yipchoy,
Don’t use Flat Color for that - it is a unique material which will always take on the selected material’s attributes. Instead use a nice white material such as SkinShade4. Fill with that and all will be well.
Thanks Marcus.
Alan
Greetings, and thanks for the Update!
How is “move” working? There is not a visible brush radius.
Is there a way to Mirror X Polypaint from one side of the mesh?
(like Smart Resym?)
There are two Texture areas, Whch Texture Palette to load image?
Texture Map or Brush Texture?
Video Tutorial request to doany of this in ZB4
" Image Plane 4 provides an easy way to load images into ZBrush for use in texturing and polypainting, as well as for background reference while modeling.
My question is how do i close (turn off) image plane. I used all 8 spots in image plane, because i am big on references and now I dont know how to enter “normal mode” or how to disable ImagePlane?
When I model and zoom my model really close i cannot see because some gray image penetrates the view and the model as well.
Im having a problem texturing my imageplane tool with the front/side imageplane texture. This is what im doing
in Edit mode with the imageplane tool on the canvas Im changing the material to skinshade 4. Then i change the texture to the imageplane (front/side) texture but nothing happens. So i go to the color menu and hit fill layer and get the result below, very soft pixelated text. Any help for this newbie would be appreciated.
The Image Plane you are using is different than the ImagePlane4 Plugin.
Similar name, but different Tools.
Apologies Sadicus - thanks for pointing that out - ill repost in another thread.
sadicus,
The Move cursor is a red dot. You may find that turning on polyframes helps (Shift+f) but remember to turn them up when picking up from Projection Master.
In Projection Master you can use the double sided option. To polpaint with an image using symmetry, use Spotlight.
If there is a texture selected in the main Texture palette then Image Plane will use that. With no texture selected, pressing the Load Image button will open a file dialog so you can choose an image from disk.
I agree that some tutorilas would be useful and I will look into it.
lillababe,
You can clear the background image from behind a model in Edit mode by pressing the Ctrl+N shortcut or Color>Clear layer.
StephenMurphy,
Note you can clear the background behind the model using Ctrl+N.
HTH,
Thanks Marcus - thats be driving me crazy for two days now.

Thanks Marcus !
Here is what is happening:
(Common) or Brush Textre> Image is loaded.
PM3D is in Edit mode.
“G” ProjectionMaster
Texture> Image Plane> Load Image
(the Image is loaded onto an Image Plane3D and placed on canvas in move mode, as expected)
now, sometimes the IP is not in front of the Mesh.
Press “T” and “M” to get the move gizmo and move the IP in front of the mesh.
Enter Edit Mode again, and select Move (to get the red dot), but there is no longer a red dot and does not let you Nudge the image around anymore.
I found the solution for the image plane intersecting with the mesh, which was deformation - unify. I have no idea why, my models are in accurate scale, but anyway hope this would help someone in trouble.
sadicus & Arnold,
Yes, I think this is caused by the model being quite large, though I haven’t been able to reproduce the issue. I think probably the only solution is to reduce the size of the model by using Deformation>Unify or the Deformation>Size slider. If it’s important that your model’s scale remains the same then make a backup first. Any textures you make will fit just as well on the larger model as the UVs will remain the same.
The 'ol " Deformation>Unify" trick
It makes sense to unify the mesh, but if you have sub tools won’t you have to also unify each part?
Was there any change in terms of work space scale or the way Zbrush handles the document canvas depth at some point? I haven’t had this issue before 3.5 upgrade. I used to be able to push image plane right in front of the document canvas, even the image plane goes behind the canvas if I keep push it, but looks like it’s not the case anymore, also moving image plane in -z axis feels very slow.
By the way thanks much for these great plug-ins!
sadicus,
Yes, you’d need to scale all the subtools but don’t use unify because that will scale and offset each separately. The best way is to use Transpose Master, unify the combined mesh then transfer it back to the subtools as you would a pose.
Arnold,
Yes, there have been some changes though I have not experimented enough to say what they are beyond the fact that the canvas depth is much greater than it used to be.
I’m glad you find the plugins useful.
Is there a way of moving the image plane? This is pretty much my first time using ZBrush and I’m totally stumped as to how to move the image plane
Thanks in advance if anyone responds!
Hi All,
Ok I have to come clean straight away… I am really really new to zbrush and 3D software… I have been practicing, watching tutorials etc etc… I have 2 questions.
I would like to use ImagePlane 4 to create models of Airplanes that I’ve flown, built, or admired. I think that Imageplane is the correct approach to help me with this… I may be completely wrong. I have tried to use the plugin, but I’m not getting it… I have seen some of the tutorials out there. Is there a newbie tut somewhere that I can use to get me going?
Any advice on how to continue my studies with ZBrush would be really helpful… There is info everywhere, but as I mentioned, I am starting from the very beginning… So, when you don’t know what you don’t know, it’s somewhat difficult to navigate…
I realize this is a big ask, so thank you for reading and I understand completely if you want to move on… Thanks in any event!
Regards
Please correct me if I’m wrong Marcus but when using Image Plane X (like StephenMurphy is) you need to divide the Image Plane X a few times (several times?) so that the geometry of the Image Plane is dense enough to display the image accurately. If you don’t you get that soft and pixelated image like he has displayed in the above picture. Divide the ImagePlane to about a million polys, then add your reference picture. Does that sound right?
Thanks
