Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R2b

I believe the model was on low resolution when the textures was extracted from the polypaint , for normal and displacement maps yes but for polypaint no…

Thank you for the responses Ill try what you mentioned when I get home.

I should have mentioned that I did have the model on the highest sub d when I created the texture from polypaint.

Where did the MeshInsert button go in the Brush Pallet?

I’ve been searching for 45 minutes now.

It’s getting really annoying having to relearn where everything is with each new release.

I’d rather relearn than not get free updates.

Hit m on the brush palette, so it filters them alphabetically for you.

I’m getting that as well, both opening and saving files.
You might want however to post this in this thread:

Its specifically for 4R3 as opposed to 4r2b

It’s under brush Modifiers Meshinsert preview

I’m having the same issue with a custom UI.

If I move the active and total points display, it sometimes vanishes. If I put replacements on the custom Ui, and save, they work fine until another reboot, and they are both gone again!

Any idea how to replace them so they stay without totally rebuilding my custom UI all over again?

I’ve always had problems with the point displays on my custom uis. Because of it I eventually gave up customizing. :frowning:

There has to be some way to get them to “stick”.

Right now, I’m switching back to stock ui to check polycount, and then switcing back to my custom one for work.

Good to know it isn’t just me.

The wierd thing is sometimes I don’t even move the point displays on some of my custom uis and they still disappear sometimes.

If I remember correctly, the trick is that when you place those UI items you must NOT have a polygonal model selected in the Tool palette. Have something else selected instead, such as the Simple Brush. Then save the UI before you select a polygonal model.

I’ll try that Aurick. Thanks for the tip!

That did the trick, Aurick. Thanks! That has been plagueing me for months now.

So here is my problem:

Left image shows my ZTool with subd levels. It is all dark… no matter what material I use or what I do with lighting (lighting seems to have no effect at all). The right one is the very same face exported and then re-imported as an .obj file. It displays correctly.

So here is my question… what the … happened? It was like one day I opened my wip face and out of nowhere it was very very dark (which makes it a lot harder to work on this model). Also I cannot do any polypainting anymore because I simply can’t see the texture/colour properly… well I can hardly see it but it doesn’t help much.

Is there anyone who has a clue what is going on? Id be so glad if someone explained to me what is going on.

Hi all,
Last time that i saved my ztool the size increase from 2.1 Gig to 4.1 and i can not load it anymore . each time i try i get this error:Error has been encountered while trying to load a Tool. Loading has been aborted.
I saved my tool as lowest subdiv level.

I have around 60 subtoolMy system Info:

Ram 12Gig
win 7 64Bit
Zbrush ver: 4R2

if you have an old file that close to the current state of the new file load that first than the corrupted file. If it load delete the corrupted and save,
This happen to me a few time and I was luckily enough to recover all of those files. So good luck

if this base mesh came from 3dsmax, try converting to editable mesh adn then back to editable poly before exporting to zbrush, sometimes the uv indices get rotated by 1 which can cause somethng like what you’re seeing, even though the uv layout looks ok.

good luck!

Walasaurus, I had a problem like this after grouping and ungrouping a model. It looks like the points are recalculated.
