Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush 3.5R2 Windows

R2 works for me, after a total update to all microsoft updates r1 worked:+1:.

My pc fault not pixologics.:+1:

I have exported to maya 2009,played with uvs and mesh ,imported it back, and it updated all subdivisions fine.(not textures yet)

R2 is a lot quicker, load time was wiked.

The uv groupings a bit odd though,I did a uv group (New ā€œAuto Groups With UVā€ option added which allows for auto-grouping by mesh (shells) and UV (islands) combined continuity.

What is a uv island? = sets

hmmmnnn

Then as i got multiple uv spaces i did a group split it did split into sets but some of them were into tiny pieces,3.2 seemed to put them in uv groups and not split them.?

I have 1 giga hard memory for the 3.1 works fine

When I launch 3.5 or 3.5 R 2: failed ( i have installed the c++ 2008 etc…) :confused:

is there a specification mini more than 1 giga? And where are written specifications for the 3.5xx?
Are the same than the 3.1 ?
(XP)

I’m glad I’m not the only person with these errors, Hugooliv. Though I hate to see anyone else have to go through this…

It’s crap like this that makes me hate Windows Vista and Microsoft with the intensity of a thousand suns…

Windows XP ran perfectly for me, which surprised the hell outta me. Windows Vista has had me screwing with my system since the day I installed it…:frowning:

Feh,

So…any ideas on the help file system for 3.5? Am I missing something here?

New documentation is being prepared.

What happens if you purchased a backup disc on release day too? Does this mean I will get version 3.5 r1 or 3.5r2? Have discs already been sent as I will be a bit annoyed if I have a back up version that isn’t the fixed release.

same here on xp but with 1.5gig ram memory zb3.1 works fine zb3.5 or zb3.5r2 fails to exe

Hello Tez

I have been reading your post and I can not duplicate here what you have. The sentence that you state ā€œbut pressing polypaint from texture adds it to the polypaintingā€ makes me think you had a texture in the preview of your mesh when generating the first displacement. Did you do maybe a UV check of the first polygroup before generating the displacement? When you create a displacment map in 3.5 you now need to have a texture on in the Texture Map sub-palette. However, if you had a texture in the Texture Map menu when you generated the displacement that map will be the one that gets turned on.

Can you double check that for me. Would it be possible to get your tool for testing?

…something about Service Pack x mini who can fail something between 3.1 and 3.5 xx?
Service pack1 works fine with 3.1
(Xp)
And something about Hard disc free size?

Hi paul, watch this video. Even with no alphas or textures on it still does it. Its when I show the hidden geomtry that it leaves this inprint which apears to be neither a texture, polypaint, or a mask.

So basicly the bug is it shouldnt be sellected the created displacment map in the colour texture slot after being created.

EDIT: Ahh I see where its coming from. When the displacment map is created its adding it to the texture map slot for colour as well. While it not being visable to the left of the UI for global textures, its adding one for the sub tool textures.

Nothing will show up in the Texture palette until you press Tool>Texture Map>Clone. That sends the map from the SubTool-specific location to the overall Texture palette. Same goes with Tool>Displacement Map>Clone, which sends the alpha to the Alpha palette. This is integral to version 3.5’s feature of assigning textures and maps on a per-SubTool basis.

A texture does get added to Tool>Texture Map because one is necessary to view displacements on a model. If you want you can overwrite that texture with a blank one so that you only see the displacements themselves.

I looked at your video and the only reason you would have the option of Polypaint from Texture is if you have a texture on in your Texture Map menu or the old way of having a texture on in the Texture Palette.

Can you do me a favor and open up your texture map menu before starting anything? Is there a texture in the preview of your Texture Map menu?

Remember texturing has changed for 3.5. Now you have a texture per subtool. So now the Texture that would of normally of been on the left side in your Texture Palette does not have to do with your mesh anymore. It only applied to the brush.

I’m experiencing the same issues with 3.5R2 as with 3.5.
I’m running a AMD Athlon 2600 2Ghz on a A7N8X motherboard with 4Gb Ram using an NVidia Video card and XP SP2 + all current Microsoft updates.
I have followed the numerous suggestions from Pixologic. ZBrush 3.1 is running well and I have never had any issues with it.
ZBrush 3.5R2 displays an hourglass for about half a second…then nothing. In checking Task Manager no ZBrush.exe or related apps are running so it doesn’t even get that far apparently…any suggestions besides brain surgery on my head would be appreciated.
Thanks to ZBrush and the forum ahead of time.

Is this possible in ZB3.5R2?

YES!

Hello,

I just downloaded 3.5R2 and activated it. Started it up all was working fine. I decided with 3.5R2 working fine I could uninstall 3.1. Once I uninstalled 3.1 3.5R2 will not start now. I click it and all I get is a ding from windows Vista 64bit and thats it ZB3.5R2 never opens. It looks like it wants to open but the screen never opens.

What am I missing here?

Where exactly did you install ZBrush 3.5R2 to? It’s possible that uninstalling 3.1 changed the permissions created by 3.1’s Run as Admin setting because installing 3.1 created the Pixologic folder and now 3.5 is a subfolder within that. Have you tried setting Run as Administrator on 3.5 again? (Assuming that you’re on Vista or Win 7)

Thanks aurick,

Yes I have tried everything I found in these forms. I ran as Admin, I set the permissions to run as admin, I ran the file in the trouble shooting folder but no luck.

I did delete the 3.5 folder and unzipped it again to the correct folder inside the pixologic folder and went through the activation again and it ran as soon as I activated it, but once I close it and try to open it again it wont start.

Any ideas?

After launching ZBrush, press the Alt key, you may be able to see a warning, possibly about ZBrush unable to write its virtual memory files.
If you do see this warning, then the problem is a file permission issue. Please try and let know if you get this warning.

ok I did the alt key thing and got a whole bunch of errors. it said
unable to open
c:\windows\system32\zresources\images/openfile2logo2

then the openfile2logo2 would change to a different file everytime i clicked the ok button.

Good, now we know it is a file permission issue.
Are you using Vista? Did you turn of UAC control off?
If you did turn it off, then turn it back ON and restart your system, then right click on the ZBrush exe and ā€œRun as administratorā€. That should do it.

Ok let me give it a shot. I had it turned off when I installed ZB and then turned it back on and restarted but no luck. I will restart and give it a shot and I will turn it back off and restart and give it a shot again. Hang on a sec.

Yes I’m using vista 64bit

Ok turned UAC off rebooted and tried to start ZB as admin and not as admin. Did not work.

Turned UAC on rebooted and tried to start as admin and not as admin and no luck. I keep getting the same errors.

OK here is something really messed up. If I open windows explorer and right click on ZB and run as admin it works. If I right click in the start menu and run as admin it does not start. Or if I right click on any shortcut I made it will not start. Whats up with that? I really hate this UAC thing
