Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush 3.5R2 Windows

 Maybe we should, we have not much else to lose!

To be honest, I have a hunch that our problem is that we are Non-USA residents. It seems to me all the people with this issue live outside the US…

I spent almost 3 days fulltime trying to get the visual C++ 2008 installer to work. I tried so many things that I ended up breaking my Vista and having to reinstall.

It did work right after a fresh vista install though, but now i got 3 days of getting my pc setup again as it was :stuck_out_tongue:

Heh, ok…how do I get back to the “Old” 3.5 smooth brush that doesn’t melt my mesh so much? This R2 brush seems like the 3.1 brush that I had to turn down at the start of every session.

Specifically, how exactly was it changed? Do I need to adjust the curve to get back to it, or is it a matter of turning down the Zintensity? I want the exact brush from original 3.5

" Improved export/import options with the capability to import and export Maya .ma file format with automatic setup of shading network for Texture, Displacement and Normal mapping (This feature is a part of the GoZ system. The full GoZ implementation will be included in the next update )"

This didn’t by any chance make it into 3.5R2 did it? It’s the feature I most looked forward to. I see you can save .GoZ files but that doesn’t seem like what GoZ’s all about. The docs folder is empty.

Included is the Smooth brush from 3.5, place it in the ZStartup/BrushPresets and you’ll be able to compare it to the one in 3.5R2:)

I’ve sent an e-mail activation now. if that won’t work i’ll probably end up buying a cd. I’ve tried to activate this on a different internet connection at a different location. Still no luck.
Doesn’t seem like theres an answer to our problem.

Heh, thanks. You guys will just never be able to make everyone happy with that thing.

Here’s a suggestion for future builds: 2 Default smooth functions…a soft smoothing and a “turbo” smooth, both accessible by different key context or other behavior, like shift-stroke from smooth, shift-alt-stroke for turbo smooth. Shift-Alt stroke doesnt seem to currently do anything good for most brushes. Or maybe like a double-tap Smooth-stroke for Turbo smoothing.

Yeah, looks like I’ll have to do the email activation too, sucks though as we could be waiting days…

I think the web activation needs looking at, it’s got issues. Only reason I am not depressed right now is that the update is free and I can still use 3.1. If I had paid for the ZB4 update I would be less than happy

Yea, I’m not upset either. Too busy in 3.1. But I’d still like to test stuff. Lets hope they send out our activation while we sleep. zzzzzzz3.5.

On the positive side: I currently have ZBrush 3.5 up and running.

On the negative side: I believe I may have lost the ability to “upgrade” to 3.5 R2.

Heres the issue:

I have seen many comments regarding how to upgrade 3.5R1 to 3.5R2 which involves simply using the original upgrade e-mail/link as sent by Cleverbridge.

However, since I did not anticipate “3.5R2,” I deleted the email containing the link to my original 3.5 upgrade. Therefore, as of now, I have yet to discover just how I am supposed to upgrade to R2 without this magical link everyone keeps talking about.

Advice?

One more issue: (I dont mean to gripe, but…) Any idea on the help system for 3.5? As far as I can tell, there is none.

Dont get me wrong, I love ZBrush and I think Pixologic does an outstanding job in continuing to provide the ZBrush community with current and powerful software. However, the upgrade process is a bit sketchy and I still find it a bit upsetting that these “upgrades” usually come sans any type of useable help system right off the bat. Instead, we have to wait for such a system to be implemented (after the fact).

I will now climb down from the pulpit.

Putting aside the issue of why on earth you would delete the email that has your new serial and reference number in it, maybe you can start the process over with the original email that links you to the update process (there were two emails, the original notice from Cleverbridge with a link to start the upgrade process, and the activation email that had your ref #, serial#, and link to download the actual program), unless you deleted that one too.

If not, you’ll have to make a support ticket, Im sure, so they can get your registration info in a secured format.

I don’t think the upgrade mail works twice.

Is 3.5R2 avialable as a 64bit app? The ZBrush3_5.zip I got a link for when registering is apparently only a x86 version.:qu:

Slam, bam, Thank you!!! 3.5 R2 seems to work perfectly…3.5 had some weird problems with matcap’s from 3.1. Now, no problems to report. (XP 64bit)

Here what looks to be a bug.

I have a single object with 2 Uv groups. I hide one and produce a UV map. I then press clone displacment to get a copy of the displacment into the alpha menu.

When I show the hidden part, there is what seems to be a black inprint that resembles the displacment just produced. Turning off the displacment map in the right of the UI removes the displacment, but still leaves this mark.

Turning off colourize does not remove it, but pressing polypaint from texture adds it to the polypainting, then colour button turned off with hide it. Problem now is that mark has destored all the polypainting for that area.

Just to note: Having colorize off while producing a displacment map makes no difference, and also pressing the clone button is not producing this. Its just producing the displacment map with hidden geometry that is causing this.

Well, I de-activated 3.5, activated 3.5r2 and when I run it I get this error:

VirtMemErrorMessage_01.jpg

I choose cancel and Z-Brush runs, and I get an incomplete file write error. but I get nothing in my lightbox window. It’s empty. No images or icons.

I’m running Vista 64 and Z-Brush is installed in my program files/X86/ directory. I have 4 Gigs system RAM and my virtual memory page file is 4.5 gigs, set by Windows Vista, I believe.

What is going on here? I have a project I have to finish for a client…

Do you have UAC turned off? If so, then Run as Administrator actually has no effect. Try turning UAC back on (restart your computer) and turning on Run as Administrator again. Let us know what that does.

I had that too the first time , but i had forgotten to put it’s properties on “run as administrator”, don’t know if it’s that in your case.

I run the program as administrator by right clicking on the exe and running it that way. Same problem.

I’m gonna try and export my model and texture where it stands and see if that works. Hopefully I’ll be able to hobble through it.

Worse comes to worse, I’ll just try and get 3.5 running again.

What a pain in the rear this is…

Well, Im of the type who likes to quickly “clean up” after himself. Besides, all pertinent information (serial #, reference #, program files, etc.) were copied either electronically or by paper. So, given that my current version (3.5R1) was working just fine, I felt the Cleverbridge emails were, in essence, superfluous. I had no idea that R2 would be released a mere 2 or 3 days later.

If not, you’ll have to make a support ticket, Im sure, so they can get your registration info in a secured format.
I have done this as it appears to be my only choice at this point.

BTW- It would have been nice if this latest update were available as a download via the Pixologic website as perhaps a Service Pack vs. having to go through this mess.

Regardless, it is what it is.

Its still a great program, but sometimes the upgrade process can be a bit ridiculous and I still have an issue with the lack of an “out of the box” help file/tutorial system regarding the “3” series releases.

Ive installed and activated the 3.5R2 , yet the problem of "Out of disk space.." still persists , and continues with a new error that doesnt allow the lightbox to work . Theres 200 g of free space in the disk and is installed in (x86)Programs folder…

XP x64 8 g Ram
Administrator option checked.
Dep checked

I wonder if there`s a workaround since this will effect performance
If is a problem of Permissions in the OS I really dont know how to solve this
