Still seems to not work for with some users( how many who knows), It works on my PC but not on my Mac. I have email support. Still waiting to hear if there is any resolutions to the problem. Hopefully Aurick will give a update.
Just installed the great ZAppLink plugin, but it keeps on starting up “PictureViewer” as target app instead of the Photoshop app. The manual says “You can choose a specific external editor for ZAppLink with the Set Target App button”.
Cannot seem to find that button anywhere! Anyone who knows what button they mean, and how the set target app works?
Thanks a bunch!
Windows XPSP2
Regarding setting target app…I think it is only available on the MAC version for now.
Yes, apparently the direct link to the supporting application can only be set from within ZB in the Mac version of ZAppLink, not in the Windows version.
Tha answer was kindly posted by Defonten in a separate thread I mistakingly started:
[QUOTE=Defonten]Just make sure that doubleclicking on any psd file in explorer opens Photoshop and not any image viewers like acdc. Right click on psd file -> properties -> Opens with: Photoshop. It worked for me -)[/QUOTE
Thanks
SmileMan I’m so sorry, havn’t checked my email in a few days!

Has anyone in the Macintosh community been able to use ZAppLink? I must be doing something wrong. Every time I push the button to send my picture to my Photoshop CS, ZBrush dies. --The first time I ran the script I hit the button to choose the application-rather than waiting for it to ask me which application I wanted to use. Is that the problem? I tried to find the file in my Data folder that tells ZApplink where to send the picture, but I can’t find it to delete it. Maybe its only created when I successfully go to Photoshop and return. I don’t know. Help!
This is the name of the file that ZBrush writes to store the selected program: ZAppExternalEditorPath.txt
Try deleting that file and then running ZBrush again.
I deleted the ZAppExternalEditorPath.txt document and tried again. ZBrush still quits. I though maybe I wasn’t using the right tool or design, so I tried making a small design made from the Simple brush>ZAppLink>Quits, I tried with a 3d sphere-it quits, I even skinned something and tried it again-quit. Is there some trick to using it so it won’t quit on my Macintosh?
I am running ZBrush 2 from:
500Mhz PowerMac G4
OS X 10.4.2
320 MB SDRAM
Photoshop CS
Edited later:
My ZBrush is located on a different hard drive than my System. My system has an administrator and a 2nd user accounts. I always run my applications from the 2nd user. When I try ZApplink it just crashes. So I logged into the Administrator account and ran the program-This time I got all sorts of errors saying it can’t copy the ZAppExternalEditorPath.txt etc. So I checked the ownership of the ZApplink folders and discovered some were set to my 2nd user account. I therefore changed ownership to the Administrator account. This time I got further-I got the “Error encountered while attempting to launch external editor” that others have mentioned. This makes me wonder if maybe the problem stems from permissions issues. Those few of you out there that are successful in running ZAppLink on your Macs, do you have one or two user accounts. If it is one- there is something to this.
I have my mac computer set just like yours and I get the same problem.
If it is a permmision issue it would explain why some mac users can use the program and others can not.
I just installed Os X 10.4.3 but it hasn’t fixed this issue. I tried deleting the text file but it made no difference either. Our problems are one and the same it seems. I’m on a G5 Dual 2.7.
Thanks for the continued efforts

i have to explore this permissions issue. I too cant get Zapplink working in 10.4.2.
Whats the school of thought on this mac permissions thing? and how are ppl trying to correct it… unsuccesfully it sounds like I recall ppl creating new accounts.
I have Zbrush on my desktop and on a laptop. The laptop has more than one account since my children use it for homework (and for window shopping on ebay). I copied my zplugs folder onto my laptop zstartup folder and zapp worked fine. I made a sphere went into projection master and activated zapp. I specified photoshop cs and it opened it let me edit and acepted the changes.
My main computer is a g5 dual and my laptop is a g4 with two user accounts. No trouble. On both computers I was signed in as the administrator. I know nothing about programming, but could your files be corrupted? Have you tried downloading them again? I expect you have, I’m just feeling guilty becuase I am not having your trouble here.
Thanks Cassandra, well the plot thickens. Although I had already binned/re - downloaded Zapplink, I did it again anyway, Changed the Name of my top level ZB folder from ZBrush 2 to ZBrush2 (no gap, random choice just in case it made a difference) - went throught the usual add sphere, edit, projection master, Zapplink - and it worked. It opened Photoshop CS2, I scribbled, I quit and saved the ps file, it cames back into ZB, I accepted the changes - aagh, but when I hit projection master to pick the object back up again, ZB crashed. Again this is repeatable, it happens at the same place every time. Still, at least Photoshop now opened and I am one step further on than I was before

Sav email Pixologic and tell them of your solution. It now works on my Mac
by simply changing the folder name containing" Zbrush 2" name to “Zbrush2” .
This solution came from You. Thanks man you are a credit to the Zbrushcentral community.
I have taken some heat lately for questioning rather some of Pixologic
Mac development should open up to larger beta team so that they can concentrate on making their release dates. Some solutions can be found
by people on the boards or a expanded beta team. I hope Pixologic considers this more seriously. Think of all the time that has been wasted
by other Mac users trying to figure this out. Please do not delete this post
it is not a criticism. I am a Zbrush user for life and want it to be the best it can be. I just think at times flexibility is needed when finding out problems.
Not just email us if you are having problems. Sometimes open discussions
lead to solutions.
Sometime you have to lose control to gain it.
wow, that is both cool and silly
But even so it is still unuseable for me as it crashes when I try to pick up the object again. Does this not happen for you?
Thanks
Sav
No I am having no problems with crashes. Try this
change your app folder to Applications/Zbrush2
does this work
No, ZB won’t even open if I do that. I’d understand problems if I changed the name of the actual app, but it seems odd that it is so extrememly sensitive to changing the name of a folder?
I think I’ll Download ZB2 again and see if that works.

Edit: Oh wait I forgot, its not that straight forward, I remember now theres a twisty turny plot involving emailing the 1.55 licence etc etc. Ho hum

Are you using zbrush at the Administration level/firstuser?
when I switch to my Admin level it crashes on me as well but I never work on that level. I work always on a seconduser level. And it works fine via your solution. The target app works great as well I can change from photoshop to painter without quitting Zbrush now and it works perfectly.
Get Info dialog ZBrush2.app
permissions is set as follow.
Owner=admin name
Group= current user name
all permissions set to Read & Write
I did not have to reinstall to get it working. I do not think you have to through that process to get it working.
Hurray! I was right!!! It is a permissions problem! Normally when I reformat my hard drive I install the applications while I am in the Administrator account. Then I create a 2nd user and set all the preferences for my applications there. After that I always work out of the 2nd user account.
I tried changing the ownership & permissions in the ZBrush folder to my 2nd user account-but they kept reveriting back to the Administrator account. So I tried reinstalling ZBrush while I was logged into the second user account. I copied over the ULicense.zul file and reinstalled ZAppLink. All ownership & Permissions were automatically set for my 2nd user account-so this time it worked!! If the rest of you can get it working doing this, then Pixologic should add this to the Macintosh instructions- “If you have more than one user account, be sure you install ZBrush and all other files from the same user account that you normally log into when using ZBrush”.
Boy I hope this works for everyone.
