Presenting ZBrush 4R7 (Updated with Summit Recaps)

I do enjoy experimenting with the demo, dill.

I am so looking forward to the day when everyone can share their ZB/Keyshot
works here. And everywhere else, too.

I dont think you will be dissapointed Jan, Keyshot is just amazingly simple to use and gives first class results.

That is why I have come to love Keyshot! I was very skeptical at first (maybe even a bit of a poo-pooer) but I tried it and now I’m sold, especially with the announcement of increased resolution. I did a flamboyant 360 and moonwalked fabulously away from poopooing all the way to whoo-hooing! I’m a little confused as to why they didn’t just integrate KS directly into Zbrush but hey, not gonna look a gift-horse in the viewport. I’m sure they have good reason. I’m super excited and the anticipation is killing me!

Is the release still scheduled for this month…January?

Yes, michaelws. They said it would be released this month…

I can’t match that colorful description. That’s pretty much what happened to me, too, though.

Thanks Dargelos.

Call me a skeptic, but I do not think that Zbrush will be released in January.

And why do you say that Silent, it looks quite ready to me. The last update they showed us it looks clean as all hell and did not see a crash :stuck_out_tongue:

Especially with January having 17 days left…

I have sparklers ready to set off on the release date. All I have to do is light them.

And ā€œJanuaryā€ is written on every one.

The sparklers are virtual sparklers, but still…

It was told coming Mid to Late Jan and it has not even hit mid.

jajajaa killer could not be silent!!!
they say January and January have 31 days, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee dont come again!!!:+1:

Silent killer is a skeptic indeed! Written in good humor!

Anyone who has been using Zbrush for a while knows to be patient for the updates. What Zbrush does, it does very well. The fact they don’t charge for maintenance contracts or upgrades is unheard of ( and more appreciated than they realize ) in the realm of 3D content production software.

IMO, and it doesn’t amount to much, Zbrush is really more about the sculpting or model creation. With some exceptions, it’s allowed folks to move away from traditional methods of 3D modeling and that is a huge leap over what we had to put up with 10-15 years ago.

To stay focused on what Zbrush does best, I think they are on the right track offloading the more advanced rendering to those systems that are designed for it. Why redesign the wheel if you don’t have to ? You start branching off into other aspects of 3D creation and your coding team will grow right along with it. Sure, they could build a fancy rendering system into Zbrush, but having used many of them ( Mental Ray, V-Ray, Brazil, Keyshot, etc ) I realize the more versatile a renderer is, the more complex it becomes. Both to use and learn.

Mental Ray, V-Ray and Brazil are pretty powerful rendering systems. The sheer number of options and the complexity of setting up a render in those systems are staggering. They make an outstanding image, but you will spend a lot of time tweaking options, variables, photon counts, etc to get it right.

This is where Keyshot shines. It isn’t as versatile as the other rendering systems, but for concept renderings it’s pretty damned impressive. It’s selling point is the ease of use and setup of a scene. It isn’t the fastest renderer out there ( it’s still CPU based ) and far from the cheapest, but it gets the job done ( and doesn’t require a three volume instruction manual to learn it ).

Since Zbrush is used heavily for concept work, I can see why they would build the plugin that makes it easier / faster to export Z data over to that platform. Click a button and wham, your entire scene is there and ready. Makes it dead simple to go from basic concept to rendered concept for client approval in short order.

Are there things we would all like to see in Zbrush that aren’t there yet ? Sure. ( I would love 3D mouse support myself ) In the end though, they work on what they think is needed. Based on how well Z works today, I really can’t argue with the path they’ve taken thus far.

Ssssshhhh that’s too much to read, quiet…bla bla bla… your interrupting the anticipation for R7.

" Let’s all be patient " ya go sing Kumbaya by the fire while the rest of us experience EAGER ANTICIPATION. :o

chuckle

I’ll make this one shorter.

Since the very first update to Zbrush, the outcome is predictable. It’s announced, folks get excited, then panic, then get angry when it doesn’t get released RIGHT NAO.

Then the actual release happens, and folks get excited, panic some more, then get angry again because they haven’t received their upgrade email yet.

Every. Single. Time.

Couple of weeks post release ( assuming no bugs ) everyone calms back down and the cycle repeats itself.

It’s great to be excited about it, just don’t stress over it

Hey man! Great post! I would +1 these post if we had that kind of forum tool.

I was excited about a +1 tool, but now i’m angry cause we don’t have one! …but i’m not going to stress over it.

Hehe…good one!

I wish January is like February with 29 days :frowning:
