damn, one of my favorite jump n run characters of all time, although i sucked at this game i would totally buy a print of this one, if you plan to make more
Glad you like it guys!
The model means a lot to me because of all the history associated wit it (this is actually the third version of the model, the first one I made in 2006 I believe), so it feels good that I could finally do justice to it. Plus, Jim is one of my favourite characters of all time and the game was just dope! Good memories…
Anyways, starting a new model tomorrow, hopefully will post something next week.
Great to see Earthwork Jim again! I found your older model online awhile back and have marveled over it ever since. Good luck with the 3d print!

a breakdown of your earthworm jim…
and a top row ASAP !
sketchguy: Thanks, Steve! Such a nice feeling every time someone mentions that they saw and liked the original model back in the day. Looks like it was quite popular back then.
allaze-eroler: No breakdowns, sorry. Basically it was me applying different matcaps and checking if it works in Photoshop. There was a lot of post work involved in making the final image. Even the bluish outline around the suit is a layer that I basically erased in the middle so the other matcap shows through.
Anyway, here’s the new model I started last weekend. At this point, 95% of it is MAX, the only thing left of original dynamesh sclpt is the pelvis and spine. Will retopologize those tomorrow probably. After that it’s just a matter of filling all the empty spaces with some crazy mechanical stuff.
By the way, the concept is by Keith Thompson
Very nice
Nice work
Good job. She reminds me of TSUTOMU NINEI.
This thread really rocks!! thanks for the break downs and tutorials, people like you makes this forum a reference!
Thanks, guys.
Here’s some progress. I’ve decided to go strictly with MAX here, but I’ll do additional detailing once I’m in the texturing phase. Gotta unwrap this sucker first though.
If somebody’s wondering what a hard surface model is doing here, around 80% of it was done using dynamesh and panel loops. I’ve started the whole thing from a sphere in ZBrush.
Wooow, loved the torso and that long arms dude!
Amazing!
amazing sculpt and very creepy concept if I saw that in real life i’d crap myself lol
Amazing talent!
Love your creativity and skills.
Thanks guys
Before I get even more comments regarding the awesome concept, I’m gonna say it again. This is not my idea. The design is done by Keith Thompson. I wanted to make one of his robots for some time so I’ve contacted him and got his permission to go ahead. Here’s the original concept art http://www.keiththompsonart.com/pages/archguardian.html
Liking where this is going.
It’s begging for some articulation/panelling on the piece connecting neck and head hosting a bundle of cables that’d connect the face IMO
love the design its amazing
you have amazing skill dude, very inspiring work.
Hey guys!
It’s been a while since I posted here. I textured the mech I don’t have any pictures to show at this time. Need to find someone who could do a proper render of it or learn V Ray myself. There’s just no time for that at the moment.
Anyway, I took up Cris Kosta workshop and been concentrating on that for more than a month or so now. I’ve been doing a lot of anatomy studies and practices along with the workshop assignments, but got distracted for a couple of weeks so as a result I won’t be able to finish my project in time. But here’s what I’ve managed to come up with. The modeling part is done. I could spend another day polishing him up, but I need to move on to the next stage.
Hope you like this little bugger!

great piece man!!
Great!!! Nice pose
