polypaint + layers + hide geo = static

search the forums couldn’t find anything related.

I have an issue were i have a tool with polypaint data on it. I add a layer and then hide part of the mesh and the texture turns to static.

any ideas? bump. :stuck_out_tongue:

I get the same thing here. Also, I’m getting some very weird results with my polypaint if i try to polypaint on two different layers. When i try to bake all it freaks out and throws static everywhere. If I try to spit the polypaint to texture…no go…it turns into discotech various colored pixel garbage.

At this point I would say the new layer system and polypaint together are basically broken. Some guidance on the proper methodology on how to use the tools in their current incarnation would be great.

Unfortunately this is nothing you can fix if you are working with layers.
Layers are completely broken with polyPaint.
I always wondered if i was the only one getting all those bugs.
Since when i handed in my findings to pixologic.
They never actually admitted there was anything wrong with layers and polyPaint.
Actually tho they replied (they are great like that) they actually did not adress those issues at all. (I usually reported multiple issues).
Splitting layers into sculpt/polyPaint would give me at least most of the time broken polyPaint as well (was not undoable).
So those are definitely bugs. But unfortunately they seem to have no time fixing that.
As people always demand new features.
You are actually the only one actually putting your findings into a post.
And your post is 10 years old. It has not been fixed yet.
And it is an issue for me 100% of the time. Makes such a completely important feature unusable for me.
Actually it only got worse for me. with 2020.1.3 i can’t even project polyPaint from a different tool onto a layer of an other tool.
very sad.

I would like to know if there is anybody for who polypainting works without those bugs when using layers ?
