Playing with 3.0(some nude monsters)

You guys are so right this stuff is very Beksinski like. the funny thing is ,and this is going to sound really stupid, that I was totally unaware of it when I was doing it. I was more influenced, I thought, by Dore.
I guess that means that Beksinski produced some powerful work that influenced me even on a subconscious level. Work that stuck in my brain and worked it’s way out.
When I was posing the skeletons I was looking at Dore, after trying to match some of his poses I thought to myself that it would be interesting to have two figures relating to each other so I thought that I would have them hugging .Obviously now that it has been pointed out to me ,the Beksinski image must have influenced me on this and on many of the others as well.
After reading these responses I tracked down my Baksinski book and gave it a look and was shocked at how much I was subconsciously ripping him off. Looking at his work again has also fired me up .Now I want to intentionally try and duplicate one of his pieces .
T.S. Wittelsbach Thanks for pointing that out and getting me all jazzed about his work all over again. Where can I see some of your work?
It sounds like stuff that I would like.
I too own an original Bekenski , which makes it even more unbelievable that was so unaware that I was ripping him off so much.
I can’t tell you how upsetting it was for me to hear of his murder.
Which brings up the subject of my last post , sorry if I got a little preachy.
I just hate to see people killing each other for any reason. I guess it’s the old hippy in me.
Zoopi thank you for your incite on the subject. I afraid that I am not as deep as you. I just wish people could live together in peace.

Just to clarify a point.
I too am all for a peacefull world but my experiences have taught me otherwise and it seems without people killing each other that peace just does not stand a chance. Its very annoying and ironic but real.
Anyway - I have a beautigul 4 year old daughter and I would kill (if cornered or before) to give her a chance at peace. That is the craziness of it all.

Good night - sweet dreams.

Rick you werent ripping him off…
his images sit deep in out minds even when we forget them they set behind the scenes and influence us. Like all good art should.
as far as my art work I’m sure I can dig up some pics. Just moved.
I sculpted in the industry for many years(local 755) as well as selling my art.
But I have shifted to making custom jewelry. I’m building my site as we speak. there are some images up at(dont laugh it’s an amazing market) www.myspace.com/tswittelsbach
I have sold quite a bit through my space. With all the pirates of the caribbean hype I’m selling the hell out of the skull stuff. I cant wait to apply zbrush to my work.
I think you know david krentz he was my roommate at calarts and still my closest friends. he introduced me to zbrush and to this wonderful group of very creative people.

I had a little free time this evening and knocked out a quick test of a Beksinski image that I wanted to try and duplicate .I used the same skeleton guy that I used in some of my other images . I plan on doing a better version when I get a chance. I just wanted to test out the fog and stuff on this one.

Eerie.

Looking for the lost bullet
Nice fog and light :+1:

Rick, that’s really good!!

5 days to Z3

i agree with markkens…that is really, really cool.

I had a bit of time today, when I was waiting for something ,so I did a better version of this. It is closer to the Beksinski painting. I should have made it even closer but the painting is so dark and I work in a dark room I could hardly see the image in the book that I was copying from.

Massive. It has this tangible doom to it…I dunno, u rock, thats it. :+1: The grading, the volumetric and the reflected light is simply amazing.

this last one’s quite nice, monstermaker…kinda reminds me a bit of the
lighting in The Shining as we are taken thru the hedge-maze.

thanks for sharing.

…I don’t know the tragic end of life of Beksinski :frowning:
I believed that he was still alive
It’s a thing to see his paintings in review or on the net, I had the luck to see the real paintings : you can’t stay unemotional in front of them :grimacing:
Bad news : good resume & links here

@ Rick : You say Dore : Gustave Dore ?

That last image is very powerful; didn’t know Beksinski, but his work is disturbing. More over: I just can’t understand how that last image is done in Zbrush. Are you copying hundreds of skeletons and reposing them, just adding more to fill the background? Is the fog and lighting Zbrush, or is there some adjustment in other programs at work? How does the image get so… dusty… dirty… gloomy? Is it possible to post an image of this setup as a screengrab from Zbrush? I’d just like to understand how such an atmosphere can be created with software I thought I’d knew a bit.

ric:+1: k: when i scrolled down and discovered that whole in de ground, just amazing.

:+1: Cool Rick!!

GORILLA

A more faithful “after”…awesome render. I like the sharp foreground to background edge contrasts in your first better, in Beksinski’s work everything mushes together–but that was his style. With the extended foreground I know the painting you’re looking at.

Plakkie, he’s Rick Baker with Z3 and we’re not.

There it is…
I’m always happy to see you artistry and proficiency never lets us down.

OMG, I can’t believe I’ve never heard of Beksinski before! Thank you for posting this and peaking my interest! I’m off now to find out all about this guy… And phenominal job again! Going into my favs collection.

Ah, that makes sense!

I already told two friends about Beksinski after seeing these last images and learning about the man. Thus are the good things in life passed on. :):+1:

Heeey,a “Ricksinski”,cool!:+1:
