**** Pixologic Release: UV Master (WIN & MAC)

Okay…here is how I was able to get it running, so others can follow my scientific and exacting steps

  1. Delete everything that was put in as I attempted to install UVMaster

  2. Do exactly what I did the first time, but this time with a horribly negative attitude

now it seems to work…so either the chicken guts were effective, or Pixologic DLLs respond to hostility. Try saying things like ‘insane’ or ‘was this designed by artists or Certified Netware Engineers’?

This will be the last ‘off cycle’ script I try to install if Pixologic continues to use the ‘slap in some new DLLs’ method of upgrading. Give me an actual installer, or I’ll maintain my sanity by waiting until it’s actually in a release with installer.

I’m assuming from the good comments that it might be almost worth the aggravation.

Mac OSX

Working in no time flat.

hey Phloog. What I did was unzip the download to my documents, “unzipped” folder. Then, open the UVMaster_Win folder. Drag the UVMasterData_1.0 FOLDER to the ZStartup/ZPlugins folder. Then, take the UVMaster_1.0.zsc FILE and drop it into the Z/Startup/ZPlugins folder, so the .zsc file isn’t a child of the UVMasterData_1.0 folder, but its just there in the Startup file. Then, it worked for me.

Prior to that, I had mistakenly put those “checker” files in the ZPlugins folder and it didn’t work. Dont know if that was the problem or not. Hope this makes sense and maybe it will help you. I understand the frustration. Good luck.

Hey phloog don’t give up on the plug-ins. I forget how to do it every time.

Ok so another brilliant feature, whens the mental ray script being added .Zray rendering??Oh and when your through with that I bet you’ll send out artists to create for us too~the zartist script lol…You lot are amazing. Thanks!!

THANX PIXOLOGIC YOU ROCKS!!!

I LOVE YOU PIXOLOGIC…

THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY MUCH…

apprciated… but useless until we can have manual seems selection… look at the headus UVLayout v2 Professional wich is awesome… i think zbrush should be ashamed, that they can not even create a good unwrap tool, that the features UV layout has…

you could use Blender, which is also free, to set up precise seams and use UVMaster for the final layout.

… but that might get in the way of you being unappreciative.

I unwrapped a model and got the same thing. Each poly was a seperate piece even though they are grouped as one general piece. Is there a way to have these grouped poly’s as one uv group without being seperate pieces? It really makes it hard to adjust the group outside of Zbrush because when you use something like relax group it just relaxes each individual poly instead of the group itself.

Great tool and I can’t wait for it to be refined

Tool > Export > depress the Mrg (Merge) option

Wow. Great job Pixologic. Works like a dream.

Thank you good Sir

quite welcome

For anyone having trouble installing the plugin (on a PC):

  1. Simply extract the UVMaster zip folder

  2. Open the newly extracted folder. Inside there will be another folder. Open that folder up. Now you should be in a folder with 5 files inside it. One of which will be a folder named UVMasterData_1.0 and a zscript file called UVMaster_1.0.zsc

  3. Copy the UVMasterData_1.0 folder and the UVMaster_1.0.zsc into your Zbrush 3.5 R3/Zstartup/Zplugs folder.

  4. Restart Zbrush

It is really quite simple, but I have attached an image just in case:

I did all of the above several times in fact. I am using Win XP on a 64 bit system. Still have not gotten this working although I did enjoy the screen captures showing what I should do even though I did that already.

Hmm, well I’m running Win 7 64bit and don’t have a copy of Win Xp 64 to test it with. It should work following those steps. I’m assuming you have 3.5 R3 and after copying those files you closed zbrush and reopened it?

Just wondering, the UVMasterData_1.0 folder that you copied contains UVMasterDLL.dll correct?

Aside from that the only other thing I can think of is perhaps zbrush didn’t close correctly (if you had it open beforehand) and there is a zbrush process still open in task manager. Though this doesn’t seem all that likely…

Thx so much for this, Pixo.

But when does the update 3.5r3 come for the MAC?
The new adaptive Skin from pc-version would be to me more importantly in the osx version, than the uv master. And many other things like Ghost.

Please, works for the moment on the already existing tools, before you bring new tools out.

Or says me at least when the osx version comes. March? April?

armstrongnt, you didn’t get the whole point. It’s for artist who doesn’t want to tackle with seam selection, etc, just want sculpt, and UV without the technical issues etc. It’s perfect for that. You can still use UVLayout (for game models I do use it as well), but UV Master may help you to paint pixeldensity, and UVLayout is not doing it pretty well.

So if you thought that it replaces any UV mapping software, you were wrong. But if you want to quickly and efficiently unwrap your model without the technical stuff, UV mapper is for you.

Glad you got it work. Yes, it’s like GoZ unless you have the authorized correct version of ZB it won’t work.

This is such a timely event for me. Maya doesn’t have a super fast UV tool on the Mac. Also Maya is not 64bit on the Mac.

No, ZB is not 3.5 on the Mac either and both my major apps are behind on the Mac but this does help pacify.

I am crying like a baby now.
this makes uv so easy.
