painting methods - let´s paint together and have fun (page 3)

Well Ed, maybe you’re done with her…
(But maybe not…I’m just starting to see the beauty coming from her eyes, and if that’s all I get to see so be it…But I bet she has more to reveal.)

To me the concept of wasting time is rediculous, because no matter how fast we run, we all end up in the same place, facing the mortality of our species. If we can create a little beauty along the way, and even more importantly, help others create some, the trip will be much more pleasant for all…

And she is becoming a beauty…The things you’re starting to get into with the cool and warm colours, and what’s happening with them as you tighten up the features, is fascinating to me…

(But then, I’m almost 56 going on 18, cut rock for a living, and feed birds and squirrels cracked sunflower seed all day at my studio…What the hell do I know!?! )

Hi Stone
You have a metaphysic time quarter ?

“One thing we should maybe agree to is that you can use 3D models, as long as a render is used as the basis for a finished image?”
quote from here,
what is a render?
is there any version of the sketching script that will work with a demo version
what is bump viewer material?

umm, I tried posting this a min ago, couldnt see it on the thing, so im posting again(apologizes if this makes a double post) One thing we should maybe agree to is that you can use 3D models, as long as a render is used as the basis for a finished image?
what is the render you refer to?

Reyd, you’ll find your answer on page 5, 2 copies of your posting ago…
Ya gotta read the whole thing man!
(And you should also wait a little longer before assuming your post didn’t register! lol… )

Frenchy we all live in a metaphysical time, stretched along a line that encompasses us all, which is our lifetime, little realizing that it may encompass us, but only we as individuals can define ourselves…The craftsman and the tool as one unit…

DAMN, E the A!

Seeing the two together is creating a cerebral storm in my frontal lobes…!!
It is hard to believe they came from the same place, fer sure…
This makes me think in terms of ‘glazing’ techniques as a logical experiment, using reduced RGB values to build up tones, like you do with Acrylic glazes…Of course here in computer-land, you can also take the tones of your glazes up and down with judicious use of Shading Enhancer with and without ALT key, and especially with Highlighter2, by setting the top end of the RGB value in advance, limiting it to say 20%…
Man, seeing these two ‘Sisters Of Disparate Fortune’ started some painting thoughts!

wonderfully put ed_the_atom. i think you are right, and its difficult to learn that. i also really hope this thread will do good in this direction. i love the eyes of your lady from seriess a. i really hope you not give up on her.

welcome aboard jambeau. very cool start, i like the pose and her body. but i think her arms are a little short, but that might be as well the angle.

the namek, thanks to recognized the japanese style

michael, do not feel guilty, as we know you will join in when you are readyy for it, and your comments are very helpful.

reyd, i simply meant with “One thing we should maybe agree to is that you can use 3D models, as long as a render is used as the basis for a finished image?” what i did on the wizard image on page 3. the scen was setup with 3d models, i painted the background on a different layer and the chose a lightning and press best render. then i exported the image, chose new document, put the size to the exact same size as the exported image, chose flat material, import the image, and then startted to paint over it.
about the zsketcher, i could imagine its working in the demo, if you do not press the new paper button, since that wants to resize the document, which is not allowed in demo. but all other should work. you can make your own paper, by filling the layer with a very light grey and flat material.

i reworked the sword again. i think i am on the right was now, but still way to go. helpful suggestions are very appreciated.

That’s some really fine painting of metal Doris! :sunglasses: :+1:
It looks like highly polished steel for sure…
With the dynamic pose you have, it looks like a ‘defence’ stance to me…Maybe all this needs aside from texture painting on the character, is a ‘light’ effect coming in from the left, to indicate the approaching menace, and perhaps a floor area painted in to receive a shadow…With the point of view being high as it is, you could paint a floor in quite easily, with stone blocks, or inlays, and detail to suit yourself. Your character’s eyes already point out the direction the danger comes from…

WONDERFUL steel! :+1: :+1: :+1:

hi michael, this is very helpful indeed. thanks a lot. and i am happy you like the metal, as i was really worried how to do it.

Hi Kokoro, today I review your nice script and is very didactic, show as you say the esential of your technique,
also I was reading the point of view of Stonecutter (including his great post-tutorials that are superb)
who enfazise on the use dark color and shadingenhancer brush and the smudge tool,
then the invaluable tips from ed-atom, I feel this topic exciting and I will try to practice and learn from you,
Im sending my first attemp from a skecth I made by Southern topic
121 Welcome and be free to suggest all yoy thing could improve my beginning in this topic.

Okay, I have NO idea where this came from…
I made a little ‘mask and inflate’ deal, and suddenly thought…
‘Ah…Grampys’ New Spectacles!’, and painted the old guy in…
Sorry about that…Consider this a warmup for a real painting…

irgh, michael, thats scary

andreseloy, welcome. i am glad i could help you a little with my skript. and a good beginning for your image. be assured we all try helping you, as i also need a lot of help.

Ahhhhhhhh!
Disgusting
Surreal style as Dali + Bunnel in your young years

Some comments on your pics:

Ed- Your blue lady is developing well. As for your next pics, I see a likeness of Iggy Pop in the one following, and a hint of Malcolm Macdowell in the next…

Kokoro- Nice job, the fighting stance of your man is well portrayed. Like the sword too. :sunglasses:

Jambeau- She’s a thexy laydeh. :o

Andre- I think you’ve got a kind of Picasso style coming thru in your pic. :+1:

Stonecutter- Lol, hilarious description of Grampy.

Frenchy- Thanks for the links to those masters, for that humbling experience.

But Furthering the Prince Zelf experience, here’s an update, I’ve still got a lot to fix… More later.

Grub this is just great, fantastic and the green color and its “gradient” make this picture very impressive to me¡¡¡
Congratulations
