painting methods - let´s paint together and have fun (page 3)

Well Ed, now you have me doing these…!
A quick 20 minute head, and then the whole thing rendered on a gradient background without any texture, and painted in ZBrush…

Now I see why you have such a good time with this method, Ed, and thank you Doris for starting the thread!

These are fun to do, and quick as well!

Really interesting to watch the flow develope in the hair shape, Ed…I also am beginning to understand the way you set it up with the underpainting, and I appreciate the economy in the methodology… :+1:

(Has it escaped your notice that the one on the right now has a little ‘Sandy Dennis’ look about it?  The change to the features has added a lot more character, and I’m looking forward to your color choices…)

This is turning out to be a very instructive thread… :+1:

Hi Stonecutter,

Who is Sandy Dennis?

This pic is not without its problems.

THIS is Sandy Dennis…She was an actress who died in 1992…I think there IS a resemblance…

(And problems in Art, are treasures of discovery, after all, E the A! )

Mmmmm I did a google search but only came up with a schoolgirl pic of her. I have seen her face before…yep there is a resemblance at this stage. Coincidence…me I’m just thankful that the pic looks human.
Thanks for the answer

Okay then…Who the hell is Alice?

To which ‘Alice’ do you make reference, Mr. Atom?
(The only one by that name I ever think of is ‘Alice’ of ‘Alice In Wonderland’… )

Just testing your song knowledge…

Living next door to Alice

There is a line in the song…
Alice…Who the F is Alice?..newer version.

I was mainly refering in a wayward manner to my lack of movie star knowledge…and ignorance of most things in general

A little abstruce in hindsight.

this thread progresses very wonderful. i am very happy about this.

ed_the atom, i tried your method. its very good when one starts learning to paint. here is what i modeled, lit and renderend

exported, imported and painted over this to get

the sky was made after a tutorial stonecutter sent me. thanks again michael.

suggestions for improving the paintwork are very welcome.

and here is another method. first drawing with southerns zsketcher

and then rgb only painted with low rgb settings

sorry for using up all the thumbnails… next time i think before i post, promised.

You and Ed should stop worrying about ‘using’ all the thumbnails, Doris!
This is becoming an interesting and informative thread, and I for one, am learning a lot here…Nice painting you did of the ‘Wizard’ by the way! :+1: :sunglasses: :+1:

Ed, I am right here with you. I just wish I had time to contribute more and try out more. It is a very informative thread, and nice to watch this take shape.

Hi ed_the_atom
Be sure that I want to learn from you¡¡¡ I has been seeing the step by step of this work and is amazing¡¡¡
A lot of things to learn from you¡¡ Just send it¡¡
Congratulations

I have been watching and enjoying the thread Ed…so the answer is yes, I am interested  Thanks buddy :+1:

yes michael, its a wizard. his name is sarek. he is one wizard from the blackthorn adventure, where i help out from time to time. and this image or a better version will become a wallpaper for them.

ed_the_atom, its really interesting. wow, i am looking forward how you do the skin texture.

and here is one more of stonecutters method. i am having tons of fun in discovering the (for me new) painting world.

the technique is paint very dark shades of color (nearly black) and then use shading enhancer brush to let the forms shine through. this is easier than painting with colors, since you only need to concentrate on form.

i recalled in time to press the stop record button, so if someone is interested in seeing the skript, just let me know.

Hi Ed
Great colored speedy imression
Pilou

first of all, ed_the_atom, here is the skript to the above painting. radditzSession.zip

wow your images are terrific. i love in particular the bumpmaterial effect.

now, since this thread gives more and more wonderful information, thanks to michael and ed_the_atom, i transform it herby into an invitation !

though i am a complete newbie at painting i found that it is very fun experimenting with the painting possiblities in zbrush and that you can achieve nice results even as a beginner.

michael (stonecutter) is helping me to get started with technique, and he suggested the following idea :

let´s paint together, learn and have fun

i invite you all to do paintings in zbrush, any topic, no z-add allowed, but anything else is. post your painting in this thread, maybe with some explanation how you did your image. in this way we will get a wonderful gallery and a lot of information collected in one thread. also if you get stuck with a painting problem, post it here and we all will try to solve it.

i start this “officially” now with this scorpion and will post more images as i make progress or try out new things.

i did first a drawing with southerns zsketcher and you can see the scorpion drawing on the second page of southern´s thread. then i painted first the brown background with low rbg settings so the drawing still shines through, and then the scorpion. i then tried to achieve a shiny look by using the shading enhancer brush.

brush on, have fun and post your results here !

Hi Kokoro
Yes Zbrush is Bicephal
Modeling and Painting !
That is his powerful interest
You can make Sculpturing and painting !
What can we ask better ?
Pilou

Great thread, guys! This is going to be a great learning experience for this particular learner!
I’ll be contributing soon, and I hope we see from the ‘Non-painters’ here as well…

One thing we should maybe agree to is that you can use 3D models, as long as a render is used as the basis for a finished image?
I’m biased, because I’ve found that I really like working in that method…  :sunglasses:

And ED? ‘Close Call’ is wonderful!!!
:+1: :+1: :+1:

I was reminded of this when I saw E the A’s ‘Speed’ picture…I did this with him in mind, and this is done with ZSpheres assembled quickly to make the basic bear shape, smoothing turned off so the ‘facets’ would show, and then painting Gel Shader over the basic model. The background was done first, and after the figure was painted, the layers were merged. The ice spray was done with the Spray Stroke brush…

I hope you enjoy ‘Rupert’…And thanx for the contributions so far!
