If you go here http://www.sharbor.com/products/LUXN0300010.html you can get modo for a much better price.
It’s going to have to drop about 50% in price before I would consider it. It is neat, but I think it’s overpriced.
I would have to agree. Modo seems overpriced to me, even with the special offer. It would have to be more complete and feature rich for my consideration.
You can now buy Mudbox! Lets see if it is worth it?
Regarding the price of modo, or any other app for that matter, it’s always a financial decision, and that’s always easier to make when you stand to gain financially from using a piece of software.
When you’re unlikely to do so, however, it’s a much different ball of wax.
Obviously I’m in the second category since I’m concerned about the issue.
I wish mudbox had a demo version for 1.0. I tried the early beta releases and didnt like it much. maybe pixologic will release 2.5 before the end of this year. that’d be nice present.:)

Amazon.com are showing a May release date for the ZB book by Aurick. Not sure if that relates to 2.5 release date.

Not yet very intuitive
My first try in 30 seconds
It’s slow Frenchy!
I’ll post a render, when it’s done…
40 minutes to render. I obviously need to up the GI samples.
GoodBye weekend.
So does this mean ABrush 2.5 is coming soon?
Do you know of a good and quick “get you started” guide?
I hope so…lets wait a little a few more days and it will be out. I think its a good time to realese 2.5 to show whos best in those 2 products. cheers!
A-brush?
I truly doubt that 2.5 will be popping up before the end of the year, and that stinks! I have been sitting on my cabbage (money) waiting to see what Mudbox has to offer.
I am thinking for now Mudbox is a good choice for those who already have another modeling program like XSI, prefers to do texturing in some paint program like Photoshop or maybe something like BodyPaint, and only really need something for the super fine detail.
I have also picked up hints of Skymatter is going right back to work for a Mudbox 2.0 here and there on the web.
I hope for all of you Zbrush 2.5 at least shows up in 2007 and puts an end to your wait.
I purchased Mudbox yesterday. keeping the money issue aside, I though, what the heck, nobody forces me to think " Mudbox OR Zbrush".
Now I own a license for both.
already for a while I used some Mudbox beta I stumbled over to further sculped the rough base of my max meshes, because for that a perspective view is a must. and then I did the detail in zbrush.
I like Mudbox, I really do and way the layers work is something that must be seen to believe. incredible.
But I also love Zbrush and still totally look forward to 2.5. apart from texturing even now Zbrush does have advantages over Mudbox. and vice versa of course. for example if you have to change the uv layout on your low poly mesh in max, you just import that again into zbrush and all is fine.
in mudbox you can only somewhat hack that and it is very cumbersome.
and that is not all that I prefer about zbrush.
they are both great progs and the competition between them will make each only better.
I am waiting for Skymatter to get their act together and show an email addres s or fax number on their website so that I can apply for the student/academic version they are talking about. Though I think making the product a non-commercial license at $300 is just rediculous! That should be the price for the commercial version in my opinion, I mean Mudbox doesnt even do most of the things zbrush can but what Mudbox does it does very very well. That interface is just so simple it makes me happy :).
I don’t think that their programmers and engineers and company owners would like to live of a 5$ per hour wage.

Nothing wrong with that! I might be interested in the non-commercial version if there would be an upgrade plan…
