Really? That’s curious.
I brought it, and the only thing I used it for is retopo, it works way faster and stabler than ZB
Playing around with one of 3DC’s oldest features.

Edit: OK last one for now. I just get a little excited. Javis Jones did this one for the official voxel manual.

man the wrap tool is actually INSANE ! love it because it is interactive and mostly , visual. Z brush has deformation tools, but i doubt they compare with this one.
tool its great for mechanical stuff modelling! only thing i dunno how the mesh would translate in polygons for traditional apps. maybe through quadrangulation you can obtain a nice mesh tho?
Cannot imagine how this app can turn when its something like 3.5 !!
Andrew should promote it with better vids a la Pixologic:D
There’s actually a whole discussion about that going on on the forum right now.
3DC update released, 3.1.04
Massive improvements in curves tool. Curves got 4 modes: extrude, move, rotate, scale to build mesh base rapidly and have very good control over the curve.
- Moving points in curve tool improved - if you will click and drag point handler will not appear but point will be moved in screen space. You can constraint movements with keys ‘X’, ‘Y’, ‘Z’ or using combination of them.
- New checker in curve tool - “Stick to ground” to fit curve better to the surface if need
- Full support of Drag&drop of files from explorer to 3D-Coat done. You can open or merge 3B files, models for painting and voxeling, create pens, assign reference images, create new layrs with texture, create materials, masks, fill fields with filenames. You can drop directly to viewport, then you will be asked how to use object or drop image/object to specific place like materials/pens/masks palette to perform action immediately without questions. Drag&drop supports dropping images not only from file explorer but from web too! For example find some image in google images and drop directly to 3DC without saving it to file!
- I improved cutting of with lasso in voxel room - use CTRL+SHIFT to cut off what is beyond lasso.
- fixed: incorrect preview of fill mode in microvertex painting
- fixed: sometimes splitting face in retopo tool resulted with 2 faces in different retopo groups.
- fixed incorrect combining retopo layers with Shift+Drag
Curves changes are not final - some additional changes are required there. I am trying to make it really perfect.

no, not really…just kidding… yea, that’s what I hear on forums and people I know personally. And curious about what? the case of benjamin button
joking aside, I personally think 3dcoat is a great program and andrew is amazing. But, look man, I am not going to try or even think about persuading a 3dcoat forum mod and beta tester…I just find it hard not to reply to certain claims that’s all.
Though, I must say again…andrew is amazing with his updates
No worries, there are a few people who have had sluggish problems for some reason. one guy even has almost exactly the same setup as me but it was slow for him. This is only in very rare cases from what I’ve seen, but I guess it happens. shrug. Probably like how the current mudbox demo crashes on my system and won’t ever run. Yet ZB and 3DC are fine.
3DC 3.1.05 released today. A few bug fixes and big updates to the new Curves taking into account everyone’s requests, including the ability to save / load Curves. I build a character rig of curves and saved it for the future.
Also there’s a free advanced sculpting webinar tomorrow lead by Leah Bamford, who I think is well known on this forum.

this should be moved to a commercial
applications advertising thread
The 3DC forum has a 4 page thread about ZB 3.5 and Andrew (the program author) is totally cool with it.
hahahahaha
How can’t he not be cool with this? 90% of 3D coat is copied from Pixologic and SensAble technologies.
“totally cool with it”… hahahaha, that is one for the books!!!
P.S. hahahahaha

I have to admit after using ZB 3.5 today 3DC coats voxel modeling is still superior as it is more flexible. Only Zbrushes Brushes are better.
But brushes are important.
I also don’t see either one having the same kind / level of painting tools, which is where 3DC got it’s start. I don’t even use sculpting anymore for my fine details like skin bumps, wrinkles, pores, and such. It’s a waste of time and resources.
Phil,I like 3DCoat ,it is my favorite tool for gamemodels right now(hires, lowres, uvs, shaderbaking).
But …dont take it badly…but if you keep posting each time Andrew add a feature I can accurately foretell that people will get sick of it and will take on their frustration in being even less interested in the program.I mean start reading this thread from the beginning and you will see that it has somehow of a tradition of moderate updating. Not that I think that each of Andrew new features arent worth mentionning,it is just that I can bet you a Xbox that if you keep posting at this pace it will cause more bad than good.Wait like a few days and gather up features all together before posting…please.:o
Sorry ,I dont want to offend you.
The brushes would instantly feel better if the mesh was more manageable.
I can’t help but feel that the updates are driven by many of the amateurs wants in the forums, and real issues get looked over.
Haha i just had a look at the zb thread at 3dcoat.
50%thrashtalking zbrush 30% defending zbrush 20% flamewar
and a totally cool developer that has to calm the masses 3 pages in.
What an asinine thread, can’t believe I read the whole thing. Tools are tools, leave it at that. The only reason I don’t have a license to 3d coat is I can’t afford it right now, and it’s probably good because that program needs some polishing.
