Thanks a lot guys!
macaco: no one answered because my last post was crap! LOL
I made a few test to bake MD-bronze-antique-material-1! the goal is take advantage of the powerfull matcap system and use it on mid-res and low-res models with normals. so This is a few results from that test.
This is a render in max with MR just using a 30 000 polys mid-res with normals + baked bronze + hdri reflection (kitchen)

This is just a test to see the baked texture on the model with 100% self illum material and no lights.

This is the baked bronze texture

this is a screenshot in max 9 with a real time shader in directX

Same thing with a Multires for for fun (I would never do that for a game I would retopologize)

Hi David,
your first render is very realistic, how did you bake the bronze texture inside zbrush if you dont mind me asking, was it from the displacement map technique, i mean how did you grab the matCap material if that what you ment ?
thanks
Great Stuff!!!
wow…this is great…
the material looks really awsome…
Wow David! Really cool way to work!!! Without millions of poly in displace output you did a fantastic render… Kudo my Buddy!!! I must learn to do this pass…!
Awesome!! Thanks for sharing!!
Here’s a tutorial on how to bake Zbrush materials:
http://sebleg.free.fr/tutorials/zbaking.html
It’s from Sebastien Legrain’s(sebcesoir) site.
thx 4 the video tutorials.
I really like your old guy.
One question.
The last material, in the video where you texture the old guy, looks very cool. Is it a matcap?
Thanks a lot guys!
I will make a small tutorial on capturing the matcap but I didn’t use Seb’s tutorial because it doesn’t work with matcaps! I used zapplink!
WOW! Thanks for the tutorial! It looks awesome.
The result in MR

Without the matcap texture

Ha excellent David
- been trying to figure out how to do that
Outstanding David!, Im Going to use this technique on my next project, thanks!
Thank you for shearing this excellent technique, I have only one concern , can you use it for production pipeline because all lighting information seams to be baked as well , or may be I am wrong , but I was personaly looking for such a technique but after came to realisation when you bake your material all specular info baked as well .
If I am wrong, this is a super technique
Thank you for this tutorial, it’s very interesting and informative. Excellent sculpting skills too!
i like the mr render with the textur very much.
and thx for the tutorial
One of the reasons i was looking for your baking technique aside from the displacement one is you can grab allot of matCap power which you just proved, and apply it in external render such as MR and have more control on rendering not to mention the lighting control, great tutorial as usual and thanks for sharing man
Thanks a lot for your very useful tutorial David!!! Awesome!
