Now Im having fun

hehehe!
Thank you, relentless is a good word for it!

Ohhhh!
That one geeze!
Well thank you! I was completely baffled!

My experience with OpenGL has been mainly things like the viewers I use in Opensimulator and a few video games I could not do anything in due to hideous frame rate, Opensim is ok because Im not trying to play games, I’m making things mostly.
I guess what Im seeing is that things that use the video card are not as fast as ZBrush and now that I think about it I suppose that could be videocard memory?
In ZBrush depending on what Im doing I can go very high, 40 million is out of the question however, I can work ok to about 12 million depending on what material I am using and I would want wax off for sure. I have gotten up to (I think) the low thirty millions but Im not sure, I posted it in here a whille ago because I was shocked. In Blender I don’t know how high I can push it. MultiRes stopped working suddenly so now I cant push it, but I think I will make something huge in ZBrush and import it and see how it goes.

I have 8gb of ram now, sadly I cant seem to find larger memory chips for laptops so I have two 4gb ones, I would love to have two 64gb ones but there is apparently nothing bigger than 4gb… Blah, even two 8’s would be nice. Im not complaining here, the jump from 4gb to 8gb was amazing and wonderful!

Thanks Tartan!
Your gallery is great, I like seeing not just good finished things but also how people got where they are and the stuff they have trouble with, hence the insane clutter in my thread here. I can look back some times and see how I would fix things and THAT is a very good thing to be able to do.
The hard part is finding the original files, I have a few hundred gigabytes of ZBrush files that I have made and my names for them are usually meaningless.

YES!
In fact you mentioned the very tool you would use to generate them with, the PixolsTo3D plugin.
Make your 2.5D stuff and then use the plugin.
In your Alpha Pallet you will find a file called DepthGrab01 that is the generated displacement map.

You know that you can make 2.5D stuff tileable right? And that with PixolsTo3D the resulting object and its displacement map will be as well if you do that?
Its very very cool.

Thanks mealea.
OK, found it.
Tiles ?
It is tileable from the moment you import it in a UV editor.
My technic, to avoid repetition of these tiles is more complicated and gives very good control.
Or you mean seamless?

I made a number of videos that I couldn’t upload because of internet quotas and now I cant figure out which ones to upload.
Gak.
I am truly vapid.

Yep, Seamless!
Same thing to me sort of, also repeating would be correct.

Repeating and seams are different.
In most cases you can have a seamless texture but to avoid repeating effect is difficult, or impossible.
I use other tricks, changing and mixing the “islands” of a UV construction. It is possible on mechanical constructions only. The panels I use, have borders where seams are, a cable (a double cable haha better) can do the trick.

Ahha
Found one of them.
Ignore the beginning, I was trying out Noise Maker which I’m no good at yet, BUT: Thank you Russell!!!

These are fun, I’m going to do Polypainting next, and THAT is even more fun.

I need a source of music OTHER then Youtube, its starting to get on my nerves… actually its making me mad.

I know that took more than five minutes to do that. Neat.

Not too much more, its rather easy in a way and once you get the hang of it it gets very quick.
The hard part, or at least the part that took a long time was getting rid of the unwanted blobs.
Its almost something that could be automated but not quite… I think…

Ok… this is going to seem stupid.
Especially stupid to people who know how to do this but to me its a fairly huge jump forward.
This took about an hour, I desided to not give it a head or a tail incase I deside to use it to learn rigging in Blender.
From here its going into Unity with any luck… maybe, Im sort of at a loss as to what to do next actualy.

ZBrush low polygon version:

Imported into Blender (it took 11 tries to get the camera pointed at the bloody thing):

And its texture from Zbrush polypainting:

cools may i ask what program did you create the lo poly model with? and with that it just imports to Unity ?

Marvelous!!!
Try the noise maker instead. Can be combined with colors (cavity) under the noisemaker editor.
Under the shader editor, add color bump.

I think I pissed off Unity…
900k polygons seems to make it unhappy…

lol
900k …
In unity…
lol.
It’s time to start retopo and bake normal maps.
To export a 3-20k mesh, a 80k mesh anyway… Not an 800k

I don’t need to retopo (I don’t think…), I made it carefully, I have 6 levels of sub division (this makes me feel clever).

I try this one now, its 3618 polygons, Unity is furious at me…

Thanks for the video, are interesting, as the blender, do not understand, but I will keep practicing, a hug:D

I made it carefully, I have 6 levels of sub division (this makes me feel clever).

So, go on the first subd level. You have UVs already, yes? No? Use UVmaster, nothing else. Please no AUV etc.
Bake normal maps. And export all this stuff. (zb tends to turn UVs vertically so have it in mind). Dark app, I said that. LOL
Edit: watch the legs the back ones. Topology doesn’t look good on the “hoofs?”

Dark App!!
hahahahaha!!!
It flips them vertically?
Is that why things look odd in Unity?

So… do I flip my texture map?
Also (ahem) how do I bake a normal? I know how to bake a potato but I know that will enrage Unity.

Here’s what its doing:
Unity.jpg

See all the black crap? its not supposed to be there and I think its on backwards… maybe… or something…

AHHA!!!
You were right!

FLIP!
UnityFIXED.jpg

what are u doing here ?? i don’t understand anything LoL

Ok…
What is this for?
And… where should I stick it?
(hehehehehe)
